Chapter 3: New Perception

Chapter 3: New Perception

As I begin to stir once again, I ruminate on just how painful and stupid that last decision on my part was. I wanted to free myself from the cell and figured the first part of that would be detaching myself. Unfortunately, my dumbass failed to learn from the pinching experience which lead to pain and suffering. I still don’t know what happened to me. I remember being at one of Derrick’s parties, having a drink, then …… well shit. So, something happened, did I get sick and am now in some sort of weird medical device? No, why would I have a weird ass tail thing then, it doesn’t make sense.

Now that the pain has subsided, I decide to start looking around my cell again. I can’t so much see but feel around the cell, given how dark it is. I’ve managed to determine from my flailing that it’s about twice my width and one and a half times my height when standing up. So, some room to move but not much. I can invert myself if I curl into a ball and spin around but doing so also yanks the tail around. I am currently being very careful not to tug the tail thing. One traumatizing experience is enough, thank you.

As I float in place contemplating what to do next, I feel something walking around outside. Wait, how do I feel something outside? I turn my senses outward toward the new sensation, and a whole new area opens up around me. I can see the world, but at the same time can’t. I can see the wind moving the blades of grass, even focus on an individual blade, and watch it sway. But it’s not my eyes I’m seeing with. I turn towards the original source of my attention. A deer is walking along inside my observable area. Within the area I can observe anything, from any angle. Up, down, left, right, front, back, I can see them all simultaneously. This is so disorienting.

A headache starts to take hold around my forehead, as I try to process all the information at once. OK I need to stop and focus, narrow down my cone of view. So that’s what I tried to do, focus my attention on the outside into a specific area, just the deer.

I can see it, blocking everything else out I focus on only it. It has two antlers, each with four points on them. But the very ends seem to be, pointy, very pointy. I would not be surprised if they were used for stabbing, given that they also point forward. As I try to hone my newfound perception in on my new furry friend something interesting happens.

Spike Antler Deer (Level: 23)

New information pops straight into my head. It’s like a notification on a smartphone but instead into my head. I can’t see its name or ‘level’ but I just, know it. What is this, this can’t be some medical device. I need to figure out what’s going on later, focus on deer now.

The deer has the four-pointed sharp antlers. It has a, let’s see, grey coat with brown stripes that run down its length. Black hooves that crush the grass beneath it. A long snout attaches to its head and enables it to eat grass without bending down all the way. Every time it reaches down and takes a bite, I feel it. I can feel when it rips the grass away from the ground, and each time it does I feel like I’m losing a bit of my senses.

Changing my focus to the very center of the area I see a large flower. The flower is purple and has blue stripes, with the stripes forming a spiral from the center to the outer edges of the petals. Six massive petals surround a giant bulb centerpiece. The bulb looks like a flower that hasn’t bloomed yet. The petals have the same pattern and color as their outer counterparts. But unlike the outer petals the inner bulb looks tough and rigid. I start to focus my view into the bulb and find, …. A liquid? The bulb is containing some kind of liquid, I think, it is completely filled so it’s kind of hard to tell.

But what is immersed within the liquid is what grabs my full attention. Floating within the liquid is a humanoid figure, curled into a ball. At that moment my foot twitches, and at the same time the figure moves twitches it’s foot. I uncurl from my ball and the figure mirrors my actions. I’m staring at myself.
