I have said it before, and I will say it again. There are too many wolves in this god forsaken forest! Since the sun set and the darkness took over it has been wolf after wolf. Eight of them in the span of six hours. I’m honestly surprised the number was as low as eight. Maybe I’m putting a dent in the local population. Alex slept well last night, not even making a peep when the sound of crunching wolf skulls echoed throughout the forest. As the sun starts to rise again the light cuts into my little glade and makes things visible once again.
Alex is looking to be in much better shape than he was before. He isn’t nearly as pale as yesterday. His breathing seems to be stable and a quick ear to his chest tells me his heart is beating fine, I think. I’m not a doctor so my medical skills are guesswork at best. For all I know this dude could die within the next four minutes which would suck given all the work I put into keeping him alive.
Speaking of keeping, I’ve got some points to spend. Courtesy of the wolves last night that gave me enough EXP to level up again.

I’m going to keep investing in universal understanding until it hits max level. I’m not sure how it chooses which words to translate but adding levels helps a lot.

Damn, so close to buying level eight. Well at least I’ll be able to max it out in three more levels if my math is correct. That’s if my assumption that level ten is the max level is correct. I could be dead wrong and it could be twenty or even higher, which would suck.
“GROOOOOO”
And we are up to nine in the span of six and a half hours.
Grey Timber Pup (Level: 8)
A singular wolf pup comes charging out of the forest, making a beeline straight for me. I’m not even moving out to meet them anymore. They see me moving and always attack me first, seeming to ignore sleeping beauty over on my pod. So I just stand up, step down, and wait for it to close in to pounce. Once it’s airborne and can’t dodge I just punch it in the side of the head.
Its skull gives way with a nice crunch, blood and brains splattering everywhere. Then it falls to the floor limp.

Well hey, guess he was good for something after all. Going to put those points in my skill and presto, one step closer to full understanding.

Now then, what should I do to pass the time? My hand got bit last night by one of the cheeky fur balls as I caved its skull in so maybe I should find a way to heal that up. My mana is too low to do anything, I think it regenerates better when I sleep but since I was awake all night I don’t have much. Hmm, perhaps I’ll start cleaning up the glade. There are too many wolf corpses around here, and some of them are starting to smell.
Looking around I see a lot of wolf corpses but also notice something else. Some of the corpses have some yellow flowers growing out of them, the rest seem to be in the beginning stages of growing flowers. Checking through my network I can see that small roots have grown up and into all the corpses except for the newest ones. Weirdness, I didn’t order any plants to grow. I take a walk over to the large wolf, the very first one I killed. I have to be careful to make sure my tail doesn’t knock Alex out of his bed. It’s funny, this thing causes me unbelievable suffering if I lightly step on it. But knocking a hundred-pound guy out of bed with it, hardly noticed.
After making sure my tail does not send Alex flying out of bed, I inspect the flowers growing out of the big wolf corpse. Heh, big bad evil wolf went from trying to rip my arm off to being garden feed. The flower has yellow petals with black dots seemingly splattered across, a blood red stem supports what looks like a miniaturized corpse flower from my own world. And that smell I mentioned earlier, yea definitely coming from the corpse flower at the top.
Corpse Flower: A flower grown by dryad flora networks on corpses to speed up breakdown, harvest nutrition, and hide the corpses from local scavengers. Corpses absorbed by the flower smell less, breakdown faster, and provide direct subsistence for the flora network.
Well, I guess the smell isn’t going away. So long as it doesn’t get any worse, I can live with this. Still, I find it funny that it’s actually called a corpse flower and somewhat looks like one. And I suppose a rotting corpse should smell way worse. The faster breakdown will definitely help with that too. Direct subsistence, is that like when I pull nutrition in through the network to feed myself? Speaking of nutrition, I’ve been feeling hungry. I have had to hold off getting food because I didn’t know when more wolves would show up last night. What’s my food level at anyway?
Nutrition: 41/100
Yea time for breakfast. On my way back to the pod I do a nutrition pull from my network. I try to keep it as evenly spread as I can. But the corpse flowers provide a lot of the nutrition despite my attempts, almost as if they insist on providing. It did say they were supposed to provide for the network. The warm feeling fades as I finish walking back to the pod and hoist myself back up.
Nutrition: 100/100
Well, bone appetit I guess. The fuzzy feeling isn’t bad, but I still prefer actual food. Maybe I’ll go yoink some sour skittles off the bush later.
