As I come to the first thing I notice is how refreshed I feel. It’s like I have been sleeping in one of those refreshing warm baths with all the herbs and minerals. My whole body feels so light and empowered. Oh man this feels good, I could just sit here and float forever. Unfortunately, I have things to do, and judging by the amount of notifications it’s a lot. Well, let's see what we have to work with now. Holy macaroni that’s a lot of spells. Good thing I get some spell lists to hold them in. Let's go ahead and accept all.

Store Spells in Spell list?

Y/N

Yes please, I don’t want to use up a slot for every single spell. That would be a waste of space. I wonder if there is a difference between the spell list slots and regular skill slots.

OK was doing that for every spell and skill absolutely necessary? Well what ever, I guess it’s like a computer, just following preset instructions. I wonder how the system thing has changed. Let's see, status.

Hell yea, those are some upgrades. My mana has almost doubled, health has tripled, stamina got a fifty percent boost. Looks like the spells all got auto placed into their respective lists, which are separated by the element type. So many new things to look at, let's start with the top down. I don’t bother with my class since I already know it’s description. All the stats don’t have descriptions, ow right universal understanding can be upgraded. Should I do that now or wait? No time like the present they say, I want to see if upgrading it makes me able to talk back. Maybe I can actually hold a conversation instead of a crappy game of charades.

Upgrade Skill: Universal Understanding?

Y/N

Yes please.

Universal Understanding – Level: 10 has upgraded to Universal Communication – Level: 1 (Max)

I’m just giddy with excitement, let's see what this new skill does.

Universal communication: You are capable of comprehending the speech of most entities provided it is comprehensible in some way, shape, or form. You are able speak to most entities in a form that is comprehensible to them provided they are capable of understanding some form of verbal communication. This applies only to verbal communication.

This means I can finally talk to others right? I think it does, thank god for that. I was getting tired of miming at Alex to try and get my point across. Speaking of that dickhead where is he? I look around and find him still fast asleep underneath the outer petals of the pod. The sun is just peaking up over the horizon so he should be waking up here in a little while.

Back to my new skills and spells, next on the list are blend, plant forming, mobile podding.

Blend: You change your form to imitate different races that are close in form to your own. While blended your stats are reduced to half of their original values. Blending creates both a biological and magical illusion that can be dispelled. Blend cannot hide your true form and stats against contact based or advanced identification items. You have only one appearance per race, you cannot alter your disguised appearance. Higher levels of Blend increase protection against detection and dispel attempts.

Plant Forming: As a dryad you have the unique ability to manipulate plants to your will. With this skill you will be able to grow, change, and imbue plants more effectively and grant known magical effects to them. Higher levels of Plant forming use mana more efficiently and allow for greater enchantments.

Mobile Podding: Pick up your pod and go. Masquerade dryads tend not to linger in one place too long and are adept at moving their location. This skill allows you to recede your flora network and miniaturize your pod for picking up and moving locations. Higher levels of Mobile Podding decrease flora network recession times, increase flora network size and expansion rate after redeployment, and decrease mana cost of packing up and deploying the pod.

Oh sweet, I can finally be human again. Well at least look like one. But being able to be dispelled sounds troubling, I don’t know how common dispel and identification items are. What if I’m walking down the street and suddenly my form is revealed? That could be major trouble. Plant forming seems like a skill for what I’ve already been doing with the plants. So why do I get a skill for it now? Maybe the skill is just to make it easier, or has more utility? I’ll have to check it out later. Finally, we have mobile podding, oh boy this one looks amazing. Being able to take my pod with me on the road is going to be a massive game changer. But that name, mobile podding, someone ran out of creative ideas while naming. But damn, what it lacks in name it makes up for in effect.

I am enjoying this whole evolution thing after all. Now, what’s next, ah the spells. Let’s see what these have in store for me. Wait, they don’t say anything. None of the spells have a description, well that’s lame. How am I supposed to know what they do aside from the very descriptively obvious names? Well that blows, I was hoping to know what the difference between the life spells for the body are. Guess I’ll have to cast them to find out. Hopefully I can cast them on myself. How do I even cast magic? Is it like selecting it from the menu every time or can I sort of hot bar it? Because hitting up the spell list every time, I want to cast something would suck major ass.

Moving on we have the three class skills that were not spells or spell lists.

Triage: Use life magic to determine the afflictions affecting an individual. Your own knowledge effects what can be recognized.

Inspire Courage: Inspire nearby allies by projecting your presence, removing fear and inspiring courage proportionally to your total power.

Free Casting: Freely cast spells using magic without the aid of skill structure. It can be very dangerous and if done improperly lead to wild magic.

Triage sounds pretty straight forward, I guess magic replaces all the fancy medical tools for the diagnosis. Shame I wasn’t a med student, but I still know some basic biology and first aid. Inspire Courage sounds like I encourage people just by standing there, direct opposite of a shitty boss. But how is the total power for it calculated? Too many questions, not enough answers as usual. Finally, I have free casting, which looks dangerous as hell. I won’t be touching that one for a long time, not until I have a handle on how magic works at least.

I think that’s it for looking over all my new toys, I mean abilities. I turn my vision outwards to observe my surroundings and immediately notice something wrong. It’s my pod, it’s changed. The pod has lost its dangerous looking spiral pattern and colors in favor of something much more mellow. Now it’s a gradient covering all colors of the rainbow and then some. It starts off black at the center and slowly shifts through every color imaginable before finishing with white at the edge. The shape and petal count of the pod remained the same though. This is trippy to look at, maybe it’s meant to confuse rather than scare people off? The whole thing looks like a bad acid trip.

Something else about the pod is off. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but something is different. Then I notice Alex tucked under one of the outer petals. Hold on, was he always that small? Or did the pod get bigger? It doesn’t feel any bigger, but before Alex just barely fit under one of the outer petals laying length wise. Now it’s easily one and a half times his size and has a lot more spare width to it to. Wait, now that I think about it the inside feels a little roomier to. I feel around the pod. Only to find it’s no longer a little cramped. Now it’s easily double my width and double my height. Sweet, I got a bigger floor plan and it’s a mobile home.

I start the draining sequence and turn my attention inward to myself. Everything else has changed, so let’s see what happened to me. Starting from the top down, hair is still the same aside from length. Before it was about shoulder length, now it hangs down to my upper back. It’s still green, everything is still green. Moving down, nothing new about the eyes, mouth, nose, or ears. Further down teeth are still the same, extra pointy ones in front, omnivorous molars in the back.

Down to my torso, well I think everything got slightly bigger. I’m definitely more filled out, but not by much. I think it’s just me being bigger in general. When I compare myself to Alex, I approximate that I’m now three fourths his height instead of half. Which is good because I was a tiny thing before. Legs are still the same, just longer. All in all, I would say improvements were made. Wait, no not improvements, where are my clothes?! I’m naked again, did the evolution process eat my clothes? I look around and can’t see them. It ate my clothes! I spent all that time and effort just for them to vanish. God damn it, well they probably would not have fit anymore anyway. Well, I guess I should make myself some more.

I change it up this time, instead of the trees I try my improved control and have the grass start to move and fuse. The grass starts to split apart and intertwine, then fuse back together. The shape of a long cloth starts to form. About ten minutes of intense concentration later, I have some article of clothing resembling a chest wrap waiting for me when I exit the pod. As well as a large barren patch of dirt, sorry grass it’s for a good cause. Flipping around to the other side of the pod I repeat the process, but this time opt for a much bigger cloth. This one will resemble a long skirt more than a wraparound. After about twenty minutes of concentration the makeshift long skirt is ready. Still no underwear, I don’t think I’m capable enough to make it still. I barely got the wrap and skirt made from a skill standpoint; I think anything more advanced will just fail.

The sap finishes draining, and the last drops drip off me and onto the floor. The pod opens and for the first time since my evolution I see the world. And the world looks a lot smaller. The grass is no longer knee high, only just above my ankle. Walking over to Alex, I see he is definitely not as tall as he used to be. Well, I’m not as short. I walk over to my wrap, pick it up and pull it over my head. I slide it down and over my chest, making sure it covers properly and sits well enough to not fall off. It’s a little tight, but that’s better than the alternative. Moving to the other side of the pod I find my skirt waiting for me. Picking it up I hold it and inspect for any defects. Once none are found I put it on, double checking its length and fit. It goes down to just below my knees, but it’s loose enough at the bottom that I still have good mobility. Fits well enough I don’t expect it to come loose unless someone or something grabs and yanks it.

Now, I am getting tired of punching things. Time for a weapon upgrade. What do paladins normally use? It’s a short sword or mace right? Well I can definitely do a primitive mace.

The strongest branches on the toughest tree in my range start to contort and move as I walk my way over. Slowly a knot starts to form and harden, then the shaft takes shape and is reinforced. It finishes off with groves on the bottom to provide grip. Once I reach the tree the branch lowers down to me, and I snap off my new makeshift weapon. It’s wood, but I pumped a lot of mana into it to make sure that it’s very tough wood. Hopefully this will survive bashing skulls long enough for me to get out of this forest. Speaking of getting out, I think I have the perfect plan to get out of here and get back at Alex. An evil grin makes its way onto my face.
