With my ear up to the door, Mama snores. I sneak to the window and hit the last nail with a screwdriver and my fist. It finally clatters onto the floor. As I open it, I hop over and as lower myself down, I make sure the window closes slowly. I hit the ground, my knees are forced to bend and then I fall on my ass. "Damn." I quickly get up and march away.
I try the doctor's door, but he isn't in yet. I sit myself down and grab my knees tight. I stare down at the rain smacking against the layer of water on concrete. The rain doesn't hurt more than I'm hurting inside. People pass me without any care for me. The doctor calls out, "Kid?!" I don't even look his way, he passes and unlocks his door, "Come in, quick!" He calls out, "Kid! Come on!" A hand comes out towards me and I get up, "I don't need a hand." While trying to follow his footsteps, I slam into a wall. He holds a tiny green blob, "Here, let me put your goggles on." I shrug. He wraps the strap around the back of my head. I grab at it the thick frames. He smiles, "You're no longer squinting. That's good." He holds up four fingers, "How many fingers?" "I can't see anything." He sighs, "You should be able to." I shrug, "Everything's green, one giant blob." He tuts, "You told me your vision was getting better." I lean forward, a crack enters my vision, "It did." He grabs my shoulder, "What's wrong, Jack?" I squint, "What happened to the goggles?" He frowns, "They're fine." "I see something."
I shake my head and stand up, "Thank you for the glasses." He follows after me, I go to the door but soldiers walk in. Fern shouts at us, "Him! That's the demon!" I reach for my gun, but they took it out my jacket. I turn and run, a bullet fires and pings at my feet and I freeze, "Get on the ground, now!" I turn to them and march towards the soldiers, "Go ahead! Kill a kid! Do it!" I point at my heart, "Go on! Shoot me!" One marches forward, the metallic sound of handcuffs clank. I bolt towards him and cock back my arm at him. He throws his fist so fast, I stumble back as it hits my head. He pushes me to the floor and kneels down on top of me. I throw my fists at him as he cuffs one of my wrists. I throw a curved punch against the side of his head, he throws his fist so fast and my head hits the floor, my vision crackles. I stare at the cracks of clear vision, watching far things, now closer. He cuffs the other and starts dragging me by my boots. "Wait! Fern!" They cuff the doctor as Fern shouts, "That devil got inside your head, you're just as bad!" She runs up and tries to grab him, the soldiers stop her as they open the door to drag me out, "You're the devil!" The cracks disappear and the green void overtakes everything. I flail for freedom, but they quickly hold me down and wrap a garden hose tight around me.

A man slams on the table, "Where are the others! Last time I'm going to ask nicely!" A dangerous presence opens the door and I start yanking the table's cuffs with all my being, "Take a break." The man salutes and walks out as he sits down and smiles at my struggle. "Sit." I try to throw a punch, but my hands are bound. He laughs, "Just sit." I sit down and glare at him. He reaches behind him, lifting his shirt. "Just do it already, Carter." He grins and gently puts a folder on the table, "Jack Delora." I shake my head, "That's not me." He smirks, "Not your legal name, anyway." I lean in and look at him through the cracks, "Then what is it? What's my real name?" He leans back with an open-mouthed smile, "You don't know?" He licks his lips and rests his elbows on the table, "Would you like to?" I lean in, "I won't give them up." He opens his eyes wide and just stares into my eyes. I look away, "Look at me!" I close one eye to lock into his, "You may blink, this will only take a minute." A terrifying minute later, his face warps and molds as he smiles ear to ear, "You don't know your parents?" I look away, then back at him. Was that real? His face just changed, like a blackened demon, but with his skin.
He takes a deep sniff and huffs out air, "I know your family's names. I need details and you get answers." I growl, "I won't!" He leans in, "Mama- That fat old pig lied to you!" I squint, "How did you-" He points, "That stuck up bitch- Rose hates you. She's always trying to get you under her heel." I stand up and back away, he stands out his seat and his chair flies against the wall, "Scott used you, abused your power to kill soldiers." I shake my head, "Your soldiers are part of you!" He smiles, "I never enslaved anyone. They follow me of their own free will." Another shake of my head, he shrugs and rolls his eyes, "Just like any leader, I make people consent to my principles. I have only tried to help the common people." I growl, "We aren't common people, are we?" He smiles, "You are extraordinary, but common people will never open their hearts to your kind. Not after all that has happened." I look down, "I am offering you a place in life, no strings attached, all sins forgiven, but above all," I lift my head, "I offer you to be your own man." He slowly extends his hand, "I won't even ask for your consent, all you have to do is abide by the world I create for you." I reach, then pull back, then shove it forward. He grabs my hand, "If you choose to get in my way, I will do worse than they ever did." He lets go and holds it out again, my fingers lock around his hand. As the cracks disappear once again, my vision goes too. "Aren't you a weird one, kid."
