26 Jan

I light a cigarette and sprawl out in Digger's chair. Puppers whines on the floor. Poor dog. I slowly doze off.

"I'm here to kill the people who killed my Jeanie." Digger groans, "Come on, Jan! They are just as bad!" I wave, "I'm sitting this one out, man." He rolls his eyes, "Fine, I'll be back within a couple hours! Keep Puppers safe!"

I cough awake and grab for another cigarette, then throw the empty carton. "Come on, Puppers. He's gone." Puppers reverts back to it's normal form to avoid suspicion and we walk the rainy streets. Jeanie smiles in the crowd of construction workers. I just watch her smile back as Puppers nudges me. I turn away and continue walking. What'll I do now? Ripper Gang's dead or scattered. Army's out to kill me, Onyx as well. I walk to a poorly built homeless shelter. The smell of the brothiest soup fills my nose. I stumble in and there she is again, Jeanie's pouring soup. Puppers barks and she's gone. A woman smiles at me, "Your dog's cute!" I sit down and just smile.

The woman comes over sets down two bowls, one for me and wet food for the dog. Her and I lock eyes, "What's your name?" "Jan Myers." She lays her hand on mine, "I'm Pippy." "Long-" She laughs and walks off, "Don't even." I chuckle and watch her walk away. She's sweet.

The door opens loud and the room goes dead quiet. Soldiers stumble in as I keep eating, "Look at all these homeless people." They knock over people's bowls and even pester some of the folks, then they finally stop at me, "Does this one look familiar?" I keep eating and a rifle's barrel lifts my chin, spilling some hot soup from my spoon into my beard. He looks at me with his blue eyes while the other pets Puppers, "He looks a little like him." Pippi shouts, "Leave him alone!" He tears away his rifle, "Then again, Asians all look the same." They laugh and stumble out, only after the door shuts, the room's chatter picks up again. I touch Pupper's back and it follows me out.

I take a knee and whisper into his ear, "Get the other one." It's fur thickens and blackens as bony barbs rise from it, it's teeth extend out his mouth. We both prowl up to them, I take out my knife and jam it inside his neck, Puppers leaps and tackles the other, ripping and tearing his throat as I whisper, "We don't all look the same, asshole." I pull out the knife and he falls. "Eat good-" I look under, "Boy." Within minutes, there's nothing left of them. How does he pack it all down? As he turns back normal, he's slightly bigger. He barks and pants, "Good boy." He licks my hand and I lead him to their Jeep. Puppers hops in, then I do the same. It rumbles to a start, "Lucky there's still even gas." Puppers barks once as I think to myself. Now where will I toss the Jeep? Pippi looks around the street, at the dead soldiers, then at the jeep. She runs inside and I drive off. I buy some gas at a skyrocketed cost from the profits we still have, all just to drive a couple blocks and stop by Kelly Street.

I pull into El's Garage and he walks in with gun in hand, I turn the corner, "Jan?" I smile, "It's been a while." He squints, "How'd you find me?" I point, "I saw you at a glance a couple weeks ago, working here- How's your boy?" He lowers his head, "Dead." I sigh, "I lost Jeanie too." We both sigh deep, then he looks to me, "Work for me, in the store. It's awfully quiet around here." I shake my head, "I need to get them for killing her." Puppers barks, "Seems you made a friend." "Careful, he's one of those things." Puppers turns black and El scoots back, "Holy shit, that's freaky." He turns back to the lovely little sweetheart again and El points to him, "Can they all do that?" I shrug, "This one can." He moves his hands, "Anyway, good luck to you, Jan. Just- Don't let her death be the death of you too." I give him a hug, "Thanks, old friend." "Don't worry about the Jeep, I'll disappear it."

As El shuts the door, I yawn, "He in Chess as well?" He groans, "Can you not eavesdrop!" I chuckle, "Oh well, I thought you might betray me." "Funny. Now leave my store. Good luck." He slams the door and I stretch as water smacks against me. How can it always rain? This isn't how water works. Humans should be dying and yet... I squat down and sticking through the street, lies dried aquatic seaweed. Here of all places, molded to concrete, filling the cracks. This is what the Nephilim seek to destroy. Everything. I grab a rock and start hammering away at the seaweed. I shove the fragments of rock hard seaweed into my pocket. I limp off and lick the fine dust off my fingertips. It's time to heal. For real, not this fun manipulation. I sit myself down in the alley, grind up the seaweed, then swallow the little rocks one by one. The stones slice against my throat. I lay myself down and smirk. Heal. I close my eyes.

The lights flicker violently in the Deli and I look up to quiver at the intense surge of energy. Was he a demon!? I can't help but gulp as it disappears without a trace. I grasp the table.

I open my whiskey bottle as I watch Lasal move his knight in the reactor's airlock. "Check, old- Bastard!" He knocks the pieces off the board as I jump, I look to the strong surge of energy, something extremely sinister, wrathful, prideful, all of the sins. I drop the whiskey and the bottle shatters. I pull out the necklace from my shirt, the stone glows blue and red, switching back and forth violently. I close my eyes and shut them tight. I waddle over to the reactor control room. "Kaylin, get down to the reactor control room, right now!"

I grumble, "Kaylin, you're late." He sighs, "I felt it too. What was that?" I gulp, "I can tell it's not that angel in the hold. I don't know what it is, but it's on Kinelt." His radio comes on, "Kaylin! Liam's dead!" Kaylin and I look at each other and I frown, "It's connected."

As soon as my eyes open, I spring up and smirk, "Well. That was dangerous." I rub at my face, the burns are gone. Oh god, I need a change of clothes. I gag- and a bath. I look down and there's a pool of vomit and all the filth I purged. I flex my arms, then clench my fists. I take off all my clothes and walk the streets.
