31 Paper

I wave and Hayley excuses herself, she sits down and whispers, "What took you so damn long? Look, you made me talk to these hornballs for 30 minutes." I hand her my gun, "Message for O'Malley, get it to him, tell him it's in the chamber." She raises a brow, "Why don't you do it?" "Because, 30 minutes ago, Carter made it clear he's hunting me and I am freaking the hell out." She looks at my hands, I'm gesturing, "You're lucky I don't have a ruler." I frown, "Drop dead." She smirks, "Wow, you didn't stutter, but you're still shaking in your boots." And here I thought I was in control of myself. I wave, "Get that message to him, I'm checking in on Kaylin." She smacks my hand lightly and I pull it away quick. She gets a shocked look, "What was that?" I grow stiff, "Do you-" I stand up quick and the group of ten guys look my way. I shrug and smile awkwardly, I turn and halfway out the door, one of them mutter under their breath, "Cowardly bitch." I slam the door behind me.

I walk as some soldiers stop what they're doing to just stare me down. It's freakin' creepy. At Kaylin's door, one of those zombies block the door with a cart. I walk up, "Uh, K-Kaylin-" He stares back wide, "Carter says no one is allowed in here." His stomach grumbles painfully loud, "Kaylin ordered me to tell you, to move." He gags, then speaks, "Carter says no one-" "Is allowed in here, I know. Kaylin told-" He opens his mouth and gunk spatters against me. I spit and wipe it all from my face. I grab my soaked pant leg and puke too. I huff and puff and put my finger in his face, "K-Kaylin- told Carter- To tell YOU- t-to move! Obey Carter, damn it!" He stares up at the ceiling. "Carter told me Scott lies about orders. I'm not mov-" I punch him in the face. I grab at my fist, "Gah!" He fixes his balance and looks at me, "Carter says no-" I punch him again, "Carter-" I growl and walk away.

I bolt at the cart and kick it. I jump back at the pain in my leg and look down. I bend over awkwardly, unlock the wheels and walk back. I limp as fast I can, jump and kick with my good leg. The cart runs him over and topples on its side. I open Kaylin's door, "I failed Carter." I look back and he reaches for his gun. He shouts, "I need to suffer! I need to die for failure!" I limp to him as he pulls the gun to his head. I hold out my hand and a boom sounds. Blood spatters onto my hand. I grab at my head. Fuck! Wait, I'll go down for this, the cameras are still down! Wait, these cameras were sabotaged, the wires are cut. I scratch my head, Ok! Uhh- I grab the cart and tip it over once more, hiding him for a second so I can think. I quickly go into Kaylin's office.

Where is Kaylin? He usually leaves a note when he's out. Why is it so clean? He never organizes even though I tell him to. I get behind his desk and a chatter starts up outside the door. My heart sinks as shouting starts. I duck under the desk and try not to shake like a dog on the Fourth of July. The chatter grows distant, I sigh and stand up. The door's handle immediately turns and I pull my gun. She jumps, "Hayley?!" She shushes me, then gags, "Hayley? What the hell?" She locks the door and sets the gun on the table, "There's no message in the damn gun. You sent me on a dummy mission, and why do you smell- ew." I shake my head, "It's in there, I triple checked." "It's blank." I roll my eyes, "It's invisible ink." "And where'd you get invisible ink?"

I grab at my forehead, "You're a bad liar, Scott." "It was half a lie. It's inside the pistol grip. Go ahead and unscrew it. A better question- Why did you come here and blow my cover?" "You shot a man and I blew your cover?" I put my hands up, "He killed himself, I-I moved his cart and he said that he failed Carter." She covers her laugh with her hand, "So what, you just hid his dead body under his own cart?" I bow my head, "Dude, that's so bad. I could've done leagues better." I scoff, "Well, it seems I'm not as big of a monster as I thought." She crosses her arms with a smile, "Was that a jab at me?" I cross mine too, "Just an observation, I guess." She rolls her eyes, "So I guess I'll go out first. Good luck with Carter."

My god, Scott. There is really something wrong with your brain. I shut the door. Then again, he took a bullet and I'm guessing the guy puked on him? He seems fine besides the shaking hands. There better be a message in that grip.

Almost to O'Malley. Just a couple- "Birch!" I halt, fuuuuck. I turn around with a smile, riflemen point their guns at me as Carter walks up, "Why Birch? Your family could have picked anything and they picked the name birch?" "Carter? Where's Kaylin?" He frowns, "I see you're going to be no fun. I believe you have a message." I roll my eyes, "Here, it's in the chamber." I quickly cock it, Carter quickly grabs the barrel and slams his fist to my gut. I fall to the floor as he twists the gun from my hand. He tuts and cocks the gun back, "Well, look." He takes out the paper, "Why is it blank, Birch?!" I smirk, "It's invisible ink, sir." He punches me across the face, forcing my head to the floor, "Where the hell did you two get invisible ink!?" I giggle, he grabs my hair and pulls me up as I spit out a tooth with a smile, "That's what I asked the coward." He punches me again, "I can do this all day, you worthless sack of shit." I smile wide up at the three of him, "I don't think the three of you can even amount to me." He shakes his head and cocks back his fist with a wide smile, "I love a good fighter. Makes breaking you even more exhilarating!" He throws his fist.
