It didn't matter anyways since the smoke created by the move was hopelessly thin and white making it actually counter productive to it's intended purpose. The move is supposed to allow the user to be hard to hit thus boosting evasiveness but Rune was bright orange in a cloud of white. If anything it actually made it easier to hit him at the moment but I could see the potential of the move. Like imagine the entire field being covered by thick grey smoke that completely obscures vision , pretty useful in most cases.-
Tail whip was pretty standard issue in how it worked so I'll skip over that but thunderwave was a whole other kind of beast. See in the game the move worked by wrapping the target in electric type energy which somehow paralyses them if it could. In reality though the move was much more badass looking and I understood how it worked. When Rune used it he lit up and a sort of pulse I guess of electric type energy came off of him. This pulse had penetrative properties and sank into the muscles of whatever it hit thus inflicting paralysis.-
The best part in my opinion was that Rune could decide which polarity he wanted the energy to have thus making his next electric type move almost a guaranteed hit. With these new moves added to his repertoire Rune now had an even heavier training regiment to complete since I didn't have any exp tickets. In a turn of good news though Tank was starting to show signs of evolution which made sense considering his species evolved based on their caloric consumption the first time. Once the required calories were obtained the Caterpie could in theory evolve immediately.-
But I gave the little dude an everstone to hold so that he could exceed that amount by a wide margin in case it helped to do so. It was my hope that the extra calories caused his defensive variation to be strengthened like Gaia's shiny one was previously. If my guess was right Tank would reach his calorie limit about a week after I arrive in Rustboro and I can see if my idea worked. That didn't include the supplements I was going to look into once we reached the city. It was a well established fact that consuming type energy was good for pokemon evolving in this world.-
This led to the rise of the side branch of the alchemist skill tree that was known as pill mastery. It was still a part of the alchemist skill but was generally considered a separate job entirely due to the differences it had from potion making. Unlike that pill masters didn't use ingredients for their medicinal properties but their effect on type energy or rather energy conductivity. If done correctly the pill maker creates a sort of pellet that is absolutely chock full of a specific type energy thus giving the pokemon that takes it a large boost when they evolve.-
I planned on looking into a set of pill maker equipment and materials for bug type energy when we reached the city so I don't need to shell out stupid amounts of money every time one of my pokemon get close to evolving. Even the lowest tier of supplement was a minimum of a thousand poke after all according to the pokenav. There was one problem that I forgot to take into account when planning my route that I now had to deal with , the Petalburg woods.-

Unlike that disrespectfully small area that you see in the games the actual forest was in fact just that , a forest. This forest covered quite a large area but unfortunately was a necessary thing to go through to reach Rustboro. I had hoped to avoid the events of the game but alas it seems that I was not so lucky in this regard. I my team and I traveled through the woods towards Rustboro we came across a man in a green suit and slicked back brown hair walking through them. The man saw us as well a his face lit up before he approached us.-
'Seriously what part of me screams "I am approachable!"?' I thought with a small amount of irritation. "Hello there! You seem like a pretty skilled trainer so maybe you've seen a Shroomish near. I just can't get over the things but have had terrible luck in finding one." the man said with a friendly smile and cheerful demeanor. "Good afternoon , I can't say that I've seen any shroomish nearby but then again most pokemon try to avoid my team and I so perhaps I am not the best person to ask." I said while acting friendly.-
I had learned my lesson about being rude and was definitely not going to repeat anything like that again. "Ah yes I can see how that might happen "sigh" looks like I will need to keep looking." the man said with a sigh mid speech. At this moment like fate its fucking self ordained it a dude with the same blue and white outfit as the other grunts from aqua showed up. "I was going to ambush you , but you just had to dawdle in these woods forever didn't you? I got tired of waiting , so here I am! You , Devon researcher! Hand over those papers nice and easy and no one needs to get hurt!" the grunt said as if not seeing me standing there with my team.-
"EEEP! Please help me!" the Devon researcher begged while hiding behind me. "You mean to protect that guy then? If you know whats good for you you'll skedaddle!" The grunt says before releasing a level twelve Poochyena like that was supposed to intimidate me at all. "Before we do this can I ask you a quick question?" I asked calmly but loudly. "Fine but only cuz I'm feeling generous!" the grunt smugly said but I ignored it.-
"Did you hit your head a lot as a kid , maybe your eyes aren't that good?" I asked seriously. I didn't want to be the guy who bullied a retarded or blind guy after all. You would need to be either blind or stupid to think a weak Poochyena had a snowballs chance in an active volcano against my team much less that you could win with it. "I was feeling generous but you just had to go and insult me , Poochyena use tackle to teach him a lesson!" the grunt yelled angrily.-
"Rune take care of it." I said calmly and he hopped in front of the charging pokemon from Vulcans back. "SMACK!" the sound of the attack landing sounded out but Rune merely grit his teeth and endured it. "ZAP! AAAW!" a thundershock fired at point blank range struck the Poochyena making it howl in pain. Rune was relentless though and hit it over and over until the Poochyena was knocked out. "Dam it all your strong! Time to retreat then!" the grunt said while recalling his pokemon and turning to run. "Both legs this time Vulcan." I said calmly and it blurred into motion and almost instantly caught up to the grunt and with a swipe of it's paws broke both of his legs.
