Dalton came back to the office mentally drained. Never did he imagine he would send a serial killer to one of his worlds, but that was what happened. He was too afraid to check the Wellness Index of the unfortunate world he sent Lucius too.
Ozul gave a knowing smirk when Dalton came in. Dalton ignored him, and flopped face down on his desk.
“So, how was it?”
“I don’t want to talk about it.”
Ozul chuckled evily. “You think a serial killer is bad? Wait until you see what you’re going to get sent next.”
Dalton turned his head to face him. “How?”
“Well, your next client is a child molester who went to child pageants to diddle kids.” He handed him a file with a warm smile.
That information hit Dalton like a bag of bricks. He was too stunned to talk, so he could only manage a simple: “Huh?”
Ozul’s lips twisted into a grotesque smirk. “Oh yes. Your next client is a child molester, who has diddled children all over America. The FBI caught him and was chemically castrated. However, even in solitary confinement, in high security prison, a truck suddenly fell from the sky and crushed him. See, look at this picture.”
Just like all the pictures of truck drivers running over people, they looked like they enjoyed killing.
Dalton flopped his head away from the picture. He did not want to see anymore. “How are they getting away with killing all of these people? Shouldn’t they be more subtle?”
“It’s always marked as an accident,” Ozul said. “It’s why the prefer…well Nikolai prefers using trucks. Before him the Transportation Department didn’t use trucks, they were much more subtle.”
“It’s dumb.” Dalton slammed his hand on his desk.
“You should yell that in front of Nikolai. He’ll totally kill you.”
“You’re telling me that he will kill anyone that says trucks are dumb?” Dalton snorted. “Come on, you can’t be serious about that?”
“No, no. I’m being super serious, look in my eyes.”
Dalton sighed and flopped his face back to Ozul. All he saw was a pit of endless darkness. “I see a blackhole.”
“Thank you for the compliment, but I am not lying. Nikolai has killed people that questioned his methods. Do you know what he does to them?” Ozul said.
“Drops a truck on them?” Dalton guessed.
“He turns them into a truck,” Ozul said seriously.
Dalton remained silent.
“I know you don’t believe me, but Nikolai has a beam that changes man into a truck. It’s frightening. I know a guy that got changed into a truck and those bastards have leased the truck as a Bang Truck.”
Dalton gave him a square look. “Were you a participant of this ‘Bang Truck?’”
“I totally was, but still, can you imagine how he must feel to have people banging in him?”
That made Dalton lift his head in anger. “Then don’t have sex inside of the poor man!”

Ozul seemed taken aback. “And not have a chance to try out the Bang Truck? What are you crazy?”
“I’m going to go to Louise and tell her this.”
“Wait just a moment!” Ozul grabbed his shoulder. “Do you think I would allow you to defile our love?”
Dalton slapped his hand away. “You sabotaged my attempt to get another job and forced me to stay here. So, I will make you regret that choice. I will destroy your standing in this office.”
“You bastard!”
“Stop right there, Dalton.” Eira spoke up. She looked at the two. “You can’t destroy Ozul’s standing because he has no standing. He’s morally corrupt, a serial killer, a creep that stalks one of our co-workers, and he slept with the Director’s daughter which is why he’s here in the first place.”
“Wow.”
Dalton had thought his opinion of Ozul couldn’t get lower, but it did.
“Shut up! The daughter just turned eighteen, which means she was the new meat up for grabs.” Ozul licked his lips, looking like he had just drunken the most sublime wine. “The way she squirmed when I touched her-”
“And I’m out.” Dalton moved to step out of the office, but the door burst open.
Malcolm had the face of a demon. His gaze swept the room, until he met Dalton’s.
“You!”
Déjà vu.
Dalton had enough foresight to step aside when Malcolm tried to grab him. Malcolm tripped and hit headfirst in Eira’s desk, and her monitor fell face down. With a flick of her wrist, she produced a pen and pointed it at his eye.
“What are you doing?” Her tone was volcanic.
Tears flowed down Malcolm’s face, which made even Eira blink in surprise.
“He did the one thing I told him never to do! It’s his fault! He destroyed my Shangri-la. My paradise! My favorite whorehouse!”
And then her face turned back to contempt. “And? How did he destroy your favorite whorehouse?”
“The Transportation Department knocked it over with a truck, because he won.” Malcolm sniffed.
Dalton towered over him. With his shadow covering him, Malcolm looked up. “That’s not even my fault. It’s yours. You’re the one that brought me to that gambling den in the first place.”
“Excellent.” Ozul was tapping his fingers together. His eyes shined. “It looks like you’re getting corrupted by us. Let the anger wash over you!”
“Shut up, idiot!” Dalton turned his fury to Ozul. “I wouldn’t be here if you didn’t screw over my job interview! And you!” Dalton pointed at Malcolm. “Kill Nikolai. He destroyed your favorite whorehouse.”
“Nikolai.” Malcolm murmured. “Yes. I suppose I should dispose of that little shit.”
Like a man possessed, Malcolm stood up and kicked aside his desk. He pulled open the floorboard and revealing a long suitcase.
“Come Zeus. Let us put a hole through that little man. Let him suffer like I am right now!”
“You can’t kill the Head of the Transportation Department.” Eira struck him on the head. “Like I told you earlier, he will forgive us, if you dispose of his goblin problem.”
“I will never dispose of his goblin problems! That asshole is the one that decided to breed them in hopes of creating a goblin fighting league.”
He shouldn’t be surprised right? This place was a cesspool of corruption and just plain insanity. But why does it have to sound so bad?
Eira slammed her foot down. Her white hair covered her brown face. Her voice quiet, quivering with anger. “Malcolm. I deal with a lot of stupid things you do. I have tolerated your slothfulness. I have tolerated your lust. I have tolerated your little potion addict. Your ongoing feud with the new Director. But I am putting my foot down. The clients are bad. I can’t work with any of them. The last client I had was weaboo named Riot, who demanded that he have the powers to make breasts bigger.”
There were many things that Dalton has done since he got here. He had a feeling that he should keep his mouth shut about who killed Riot.
“And, after painstaking conversation with Nikolai, I finally got him to come to agreement. He would give us clients within our range again, only if you personally got involved in getting rid of goblins.”
“No. Fuck no!” Malcolm shook his head. “You can’t make me do-”
It was quick, but Eira whispered something in his ear. It made him stop talking.
“What? No. You can’t be serious.”
His face turned progressively paler as she continued to whisper in his ear. His form came from a strong man standing, to a quivering child crouched in the corner of the room.
“Please stop. I will kill the Goblin King. So please, don’t do it.”
Eira glared at him. “Just so long as we have an understanding. And you two!”
She turned her attention to them. “You will help him. Do you understand?”
Dalton nodded.
Ozul on the other hand, snorted. “Like hell I will-”
Just like Malcolm, she leaned in to whisper something.
A few minutes later, he was in the corner of the room, hugging his legs. His face so pale, he looked like he would vanish.
“I want my mommy,” Ozul said.
What did she say to them in order to make them quiver like that? That was an answer Dalton did not desire to learn.
