Chapter 42: Fierce Slaughter

“When given just a little bit of power, they become like wild animals.” Mylos held his chin, a cold gleam in his eyes as he observed them battle against the invading demons, “Your demon army was a bit too ill prepared. All you did, Plethora, was feed me the necessary tool for my plan.”

“Your plan?” she questioned through gritted teeth, glaring fiercely at a casual Lisa. The hatred in her gaze could burn down an entire building! If Plethora knew how dangerous this woman was, then she would have targeted her first instead of Mylos… ill preparation, yes.

“After St. Mariana, there is one more church I will need to visit before House El Meta, right?” The smile on his face grew as he turned around, circling Plethora with his hands clasped behind his back, and his chin held, “Do you think those are the only churches in this city? Can I destroy them alone?”

“Get to the point!” Plethora barked as Mylos stopped with his back turned to her, his long black and purple accented hair flowed in the wind and she staring at his back, she grew irrational. After a while, he laughed, and she rolled her eyes, wishing she could bury her blade in his guts.

“I am going to let the church loose upon themselves. I want to watch what would happen once a religion faces extinction, would their god show them a miracle or abandon them?” He laughed with a smile on his face, turning around to face Plethora, “Then, how would that religion face its god?”

“What the hell are you talking about? How does this relate to—” she stopped short, and her gaze shook, “Wait. You are using us are a catalyst to instigate these people? Once you force them to accept whatever you’ve made them into, there is no telling what they’ll try to do!”

“Exactly. I am going to repeat the process for St. Rafaela before leading the full brunt of the force against the House El Meta. These demons you brought me serve as fuel to help release the animal that lies latent within each and every human here…” Mylos chuckled coldly, “To you, friend, I am grateful.”

“Are you betting on the thought someone else would try to stop you once you get to Upper Area A? No one would dare sent heroes after you at this point, especially if they receive information of all you have done here.” Plethora fought fiercely, the pain threatening to tear her mind apart.

“The church is not my only enemy. Once they notice how close I am to my goals, then they would try to stop me from achieving it. I can imagine another ambush, much like yours, waiting for me once I get there.” Mylos sighed, watching as the battle began to die down, “Little they know of my power.”

Once the demonic ambush was destroyed, Mylos walked past Plethora, beckoning for Lisa to join him, releasing the demon woman. As she landed on the ground, she turned to Mylos, wondering why he had let her go. Yet, she sat there, sweating profusely and unable to utter a word as they left.

“I cannot believe I agreed to do this…” Aysla burst through the windows, running forward as she was chased by three massive red dogs, her eyes gleaming in tears. The demon dogs chased her with her maws gaping, fangs gleaming in the moonlight, and fur pulsating with energies, “Then again…”

She spun around, drawing back her fist and throwing it forward. A dog ran right into her moving fist, and it exploded in a splatter of blood, the other darting past thoughtlessly. They turned back the second they noticed their their prey and comrade had vanished, only to meet a cleaving blade.

Blood sprayed as the blood of the demon dogs rained down upon the ground, and they fell dead to the ground. Madeleine wiped her blade, feeling herself fill with energy after killing the demons. An elated expression formed on her face noting she could still growing stronger from killing demons.

“It was necessary. We cannot allow these things to hinder Mylos’s plan…” Madeleine flicked her blade, turning around to a scowling Aysla. Outside this building was a trail of dead demons as far as the eyes could see, most of them quite pathetic, and some immensely strong, “Although, it’s weird.”

“The number of demons we have fought here? They are very many.” Aysla circled in one spot, observing the dead demons around them with a frown on her face. She sighed, folding her hands across her chest and bowing her head in thoughts, “What is Mylos even up to?”

Madeleine shrugged, “I’d only met him today — so…”

“Well, I know that. I wasn’t asking you.” Aysla unfolded her arms, turning to Madeleine with the frown on her face growing more profound. Before she could give the woman a piece of her mind, a shiver ran down her spine and Aysla paused, her eyes widening, “Oh no…”

“What?” It was Madeleine’s turn to wear a frown, and she wore a strong one. She noticed Aysla quickly entering a battle stance, and followed with adept emergency. As she held her blade, waiting calmly, whatever Aysla head sensed did not disappoint, darting out of the shadows.

“The purple dog has seven heads?” Madeleine dashed back as the frightening claws of the beast, which was twice her size at this point, slammed down to the ground, sending cobblestones flying. As she retreated, Madeleine took a breath, channelling energy into her blade.

Aysla dashed forward, swinging her blade with all her might, creating a vicious arc with her new — stolen — hammer, creating a vicious arc and slamming it into one of the dogs’ faces. As it hammer connected, the other heads roared with fury, and they all bit towards Aysla.

Her pupils narrowed to needle points as the heads chomped on different parts of her body, the pain rippling across her body like a wave of exploding needles. Before the monster could rip Aysla apart with its mouths, Madeleine swung her blade, sending a crescent of energy flying at it.

The monster released Aysla, dodging the crescent. It turned in the direction of the flying strike, watching as it ripped the earth apart, flying into the sky until it dispersed in a destructive explosion, splitting the skies. The monster returned its gaze to Madeleine who just finished a weird dance.

Three similar crescents, blazing forth in a purple purple light as they ripped apart the wind and the earth, cleaving in its direction. The seven headed monstrosity uttered a guttural howl, leaping to the skies and transforming int a larger, about the size of a bus, dog, his fur burning in a bright light.

Before it landed on Madeleine, a hammer streaked across the sky, slamming into the side of its stomach and sending the guts flying out of its stomach. As the dog was sent rolling over to the earth, Aysla landed on the ground, dashing ahead and following up with a vicious rising swing.

The monster was sent rolling in a ferocious spin until it crashed into the walls of a building, the sheer force from the collision causing the dust to rattle off the building walls. Aysla darted away as the monster rose to its feet, barely missing the three approaching purple crescents.

An explosion of energy occurred as all three hit home, the brunt force from the attack sending the building behind the dog flying into oblivion. The dog itself was sent flying, its fur charred to the smoky crisp of a dead animal’s barbecued mess, struggling fiercely to heal as it landed.

The monster whimpered, turning to escape as Madeleine chased, her sword gleaming as she dragged it on the earth along with her, leaving burning purple marks on the road. She swung the blade again, sending another crescent at the monster, smashing into the lower half of its body.

Blood was drawn as its flesh burst apart, raining on the ground as the dog ran for dear life, its tail between its legs. Madeleine stood, sighing, unwilling to chase the poor dog. Although it wasn’t a good dog anymore, she still loved dogs. It would be a crime to punish one so severely.

“Oh shit, it’ll warn its owner!” Aysla shouted, darting past the Madeleine who had hearts circling her head. It was not seconds after Aysla had dashed after the dog that the realisation arrived for the standing Madeleine, causing the hearts to disperse as she ran after Aysla.

The dog turned, and seeing them chasing with such fanatic ferocity, ran with its tail between its legs even more!
