Chapter 33: Madness Begins Here

“They took the bodies?” a middle aged man with long golden hair questioned the younger man crouched beneath him, his gaze was as cold as ice, “Did they want to be tracked?”

“I believe so but the thoughts of these immoral creatures are beyond us.” The man stood up to his feet, patting the dust of his long long gold overalls. He frowned calmly, “It is best we track them, Ryan, or it will be too late.”

“Contact the Priests, tell everyone to be at alert.” Ryan turned around and began walking forth, his eyes piercing forward as the building exploded behind him in an explosion of golden flames.

“What about the heroes?” the younger man questioned, “Ryan, we need to inform them of the demons at hand! If we can gather as much as we can and assign to each church, then it would—“

“No. That would weaken the Grand Priest.” Ryan cut in, walking to a halt, “We do not know the limits of their strengths. It would be blind to underestimate them, most especially being so close to the church.”

He paused, “I will have the strongest gather at the Grand Synagogue. I will go forth with weaker heroes to purge this evil. The Grand Priest needs to be defended at all costs so do not waver in faith, Judas.”

Judas halted, clenching his hands into fists, “The church needs their champion! If you decided to swat this bug yourself then I — in good faith — will stand behind you. I will crush this bug until this darkness is surmount by the light.”

Ryan nodded, walking forward as Judas followed.

Miles away, in a local bar a cold shiver licked down Mylos’ spine and he shivered. He shook his head, turning to the side and sliding his glass across the counter until Aysla caught it, “You’d see me poisoning it from that angle.”

She lifted the glass to her lips and drank the contents, dropping it calmly. She turned around and relaxed her back on the counter. The other demons relaxed scattered around the bar, drinking all the pain away like wasting fools.

Lisa and Alissa were in a drinking contest — it was only until their 214th swallow — that helped them discover that becoming half-dead granted high tolerance. They argued over biology Aysla knew nothing of and she just stared in amusement.

“Aysla, you are quite trusting.” Mylos stared at the counter, lifting his gaze and turning to stare at the side of her face, “Till now, you have not asked me why we are out here. Gathered together, out in the open and not in hiding.”

“Is that trust?” she asked calmly, “Trust is letting these demons drop their ground this close to an extermination.” She pinched her index and thumb, continuing with her speech, “We are of blood, so I trust you just as much I trust my body.”

“So you trust me because we are family?” he stared dumbly, “I wish I could trust you that much. I do not even trust my own body. In darkest moments, the physical body can fail and bad things would happen.”

Aysla turned to him, “Who said anything about trusting their body?” she stared him in the eyes and he stared back. She was dead serious.

“Cough.” He cleared his throat as she looked away, “the demons are just fodder in a tight space. A hunter attacking us here would be overwhelmed and we would be safe. We as in demons not coming back after death.”

He could hear a commotion outside but tried his hardest to mind his business. Aysla did a much better job at this and he tried his best to mimic her. That all ended when something was hurled into the windows, shattering one in a loud crash and ruining the atmosphere.

Mylos clenched the glass cup in his hands, standing up to his feet. Everyone paused and turned to the shattered window as Mylos walked to the door. He paused with his hand relaxed on the door knob, then his lips twisted into a grin.

He opened the door to find numerous men and women — over a dozen — standing outside the bar, bearing different weapons. They were making quite the noise outside, and as he made his quick appearance, they all grew silent and turned to him.

“Is he the demon?” one of them questioned, a young looking woman holding a semi-automatic rifle in her hands as she gestured towards Mylos, “Hey, you—”

Before she could finish, Mylos lifted his hands and the roads around the gathered group blew up in a fiery encirclement. They were stunned then they opened fired on him as he stood calmly, a glow in his eyes as he tanked the bullets calmly.

“Who are these jokers?” Mylos wondered as their bullets ripped through flesh and bone, tearing him limb from limb and scattering his gore throughout the area. The other demons in the room sat in silence as the bullets slowed to a halt.

Click-Click.

Mylos stared down upon his tattered clothing. He had barely worn these clothes. His gaze lifted from the clothing and fixated on the men and women as they reloaded their guns. He watched them in silence, lowering his dropped hands.

“They are weaklings meant to draw us out.” Mylos stood as all the humans opened fire again, the light in their eyes was intense. He had barely healed, so most bullets passed through the holes put in his body and exploded in the walls behind him, “Just one person — Kill them.”

A blur leaped over his head as the horrifying clicking sounds were heard. The humans turned to the blur but before anyone could register anything, a claw crashed down upon the frontier and their blood rained down from the sky.

In that single strike, four men had died out of the dozen and a half. Alissa straightened her back, her eyes gleaming in a purple light as she stared at them. Before they could open fire, she dashed to the next, swiping her fingers at them.

A claw formed before her, tearing through flesh and bone in a vicious flash of light. They stood, quaking as she stepped forward — three decapitated bodies dropping around her. Without waiting for her to gain momentum, they opened hysterical fire.

Mylos watched, a grin on his face, his eyes lighting up in a purple gleam. Alissa was directed by this command and her terrifying nature was developing. She was merely waving hands, yet all they can do is stand by for their massacre.

Aysla stepped to stand behind him, looking over his shoulder. Gore rained down like water as a feral Alissa was let loose upon the humans. She opened her mouth to speak, “These lives are really so feeble, aren’t they?”

“Ah, yes.” He replied simply, raising his hand to his face and staring at it calmly, “These worthless lives aren’t that important in the grand scheme of things. I calculate ten seconds, and a real threat is going to appear—“ he pointed in the direction of distant buildings, “—from that direction.”

Aysla frowned as she turned in that direction and her pupils narrowed down to slits. The church must have caught wind of their location and alerted a demon hunter. Shit! If they had not done that, then they would be in a messed up situation.

“If the only demon hunters they could send were these ants then we can expect that they have a trump card up their sleeves.” Mylos grinned as Alissa finished off the last human, “I had kept all their bodies so they could track them. Killing another Hero would aid me, greatly.”

“What do you mean?” Aysla narrowed her eyes then the realisation struck, “Wait — you are not thinking of that are you? Trying to enslave a Hero is attempting suicide! Do you think that their God will take this transgression lightly?”

“I never cared…” Mylos turned to the building nearest to the bar, just like the many others that stood in this area — it was populated with people. A church stood not many metres away from this point, and in due time things would become quite… chaotic.

Alissa lifted one of the women to her face and under Mylos’ command, she swung the body and used it as a shield before herself. A blinding light collapsed on the body, impaling it alongside Alissa, shattering Mylos’ hold in that instance.

“The moment I began working on my goal —” he waved his hand, and Mylos regained control on Alissa. She exploded with strength, a purple aura growing from within her. He grinned softly as Alissa threw the body to the side and the light was consumed within her.

“Oh. An undead.” Not one, but three powerful humans stood on the rooftops of the buildings that surrender the bar. A sole female stood with the two males, and they were all dressed in golden robes that gleamed in an alluring light, “I have always wanted to play with one…”

“—I have stood against the gods.” Mylos leaped back into the room and the woman’s eyes locked on his movements. Instantly, she appeared before him, reaching out with her hand for his face. Mylos escaped into the room as she chased, drawing his blade, “The gods can go fuck themselves.”
