Chapter 35: The Soul of Heroes and Demons

A car zoomed down the road, taking sharp corners and cutting into the walkways in the process. The pedestrians would jump to safety, watching as it sped off at insane speeds.

“A commotion near the Silver Church?” the look on Judas’ face was ghastly, “There are too many human civilians there! A battle would cause too many causalities, I don’t think we would make it!”

“Have faith, Judas!” Ryan drove the car like a maniac, slamming its butt into walls and diving past road signs. He spun the wheel, and the car dove headfirst into a branched path leading down a street that seemed deserted.

“The civilians seem to steer clear of this area… it is as we fear! Hurry!” Judas exclaimed, dragging out his gun from his suitcase, dropping the window and sticking out his upper body. He tightened his mouth as they sped fiercely, circling the action of his rifle.

——

Alissa stepped back, staring at the man as he chased her. She spun her dashed forward in a flash, slamming her palm into his face. The air screeched as she dragged him across the area, slamming the back of his head into a wall with a loud bang.

The people in the building screamed in confusion. Others in nearby buildings gathered around to watch, peering out through the windows. Demons. Kill the demons. Slaughter them. Those words filled her ears as she pressed the man’s head deeper into the walls.

He lifted his dagger and spun it with his fingers, severing her hand with a dexterous expertise. A cold gleam flashed in his eyes as he kicked her in the ribs, sending her tumbling over and crashing to the ground on all fours, her head bowed.

“This is pathetic..” He glared down with disdain, his eyes gleaming in a cold light, “Your baseless attacks are crude and you lack technique.” He walked towards her, gripping his dagger tight, “There is no reason to let you live, Demon.”

He lifted his dagger then hacked down. Before his blade could reach her, Alissa exploded with a sudden surge in strength and she grabbed Robert by the waist, charging into the wall again. Blood rained as Robert diced her back with his dagger, his eyes gleaming.

She roared in pain but her arms had latched on tightly. He looked around and spotted the other demon dash forward and bury her hand in the heart of his comrade, and his eyes widened. Big veins popped up on his forehead as he stabbed frantically.

Aysla turned to glare at him — one of her eyes was pitch black. That sole eye seemed to draw his consciousness in, as if he stared into the abyss. She took a step forward, his comrade’s hammer held in her hand, its blunt end gleaming in the light.

She flickered! He looked around to find her nowhere to be seen until a light appeared out of thin air, and he ducked and Boom! The hammer missed him, smashing into the wall behind him. As he felt the pieces of the wall roll across his back, his pupils dilated.

He needed to escape! He needed to survive!

Robert kicked Alissa away, breaking free from her grasp. He dodged the hammer that collapsed on the area where they last stood. If they were still there then the attack would have pulverised the both of them! He turned to Alissa who staggered to her feet, his pupils quaking. Was she not afraid?

He staggered back. Staring into those eyes that gleamed in a purple light. He saw no fear. There was a glint in his eyes as he tightened his grip around his dagger. The women walked toads him, an eerie light in their eyes. He readied for a fight, hunching over and about to dash forward when—

Boom!

Blood rained down from the sky as a headless Alissa staggered to the side. Aysla turned around, her eyes widened to see Alissa’s head roll down the road. A car stopped beside them, and the people inside the buildings cheered loudly, shaking the walls.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

“I knew that we should hurry.” Judas reloaded, glaring down upon the headless Alissa. The body crashed to the ground and grew still after some time. He sneered, “As expected, once you claim their head — then their fates are sealed.”

“Be careful, the other one is exuding a dangerous aura.” Ryan voiced, kicking down the door to his car and stepping out with a scimitar in his hand. He turned to the motionless Aysla then glared upon the hammer she wielded, “Kill her.”

“She can vanish into thin air!” his eyes shook, spittle flying from his mouth as he warned them, glaring at the motionless Aysla, “She is trying to trap you! She is trying to— trying to—”

“Buy time?” she vanished from sight as the bullet fired blasted into the ground, leaving the words behind. Before anyone could react, she appeared again — this time right behind the oblivious Judas, “Things are moving according to plan, church dog.”

“According to plan?” he grinned ducking to the side, dodging Ryan’s cleaving blade. Aysla leaped back, flickering away in a zigzag motion as Ryan chased, waving his blade. He moved like a hardened master, levels beyond the others she had faced and Judas grinned watching her struggle.

Aysla rolled her eyes, swinging her hammer and slamming it into his left shoulder. The force of a single strike rocked his body but he was physically stronger than most and was able to withstand the sheer might of the hammer, standing straight.

“Tell me, demon.” He dashed forward as she retreated, “How would you like to die today?”

——

“You want me to join demons? Under your command?” she laughed so loud Mylos thought that Madeleine wanted to bring the building down with her noises alone. She had him backed against the wall, pressing hard with his blade while he maintained a defence.

“Yes!” he shouted, a cold purple gleam in his eyes, “Immortal and powerful! Graced by the devil who would consume the heavens himself! You would no longer need to bow to any God to advance in this wasted world!”

“I will only need to bow to you?” she laughed, “A single demon too weak to face the gods they hate so much head on? Imagine surrendering to such a pathetic power that has no basis because they promised something even the heavens will grant!”

Mylos dragged his blade, spinning to the side as she cut into the wall beside him. She turned to chase him as he ran, swinging her sword in kill while he ran. As her blade curved midair to hack his head away from his neck while he ran with his back exposed — he grinned!

“So naive!” he sidestepped and swung his left hand to the side. The walls were tugged on by the strange invisible force he commanded, and they came collapsing down upon Madeleine. She spun to the side, dodging them with her gaze locked on Mylos.

A bullet flew through the air, bursting right through her chest and into Mylos’. She watched in silence — her eyes glued on to the gaping hole in his heart. He showed no signs of fatigue even after tanking all those bullets For a demon, this was not normal!

He stretched out his hand, a grin on his face, “The stronger the human, the greater the pawn the demon would make. The reason I extend this hand is because I find creating an undead too drab for someone of your calibre. A true, pure demon who willingly accepts their fate is the best pawn.”

Mylos maintained the toothed grin, “If you continue to resist” — he lifted his left hand, the click-clacking of their guns were like silent sentences — “then I will have no choice, human.”

Madeleine lifted her hand, putting a finger through the hole in her chest. Lifting that finger up to her face, staring into that finger as the blood dropped to the ground, “I have always hated demons to the core because of how vile their existences were.”

He watched her, a cold light leaking out of his gaze as she entered a stance. His hand stretched out and the hole through his heart had begun to seal, very much unlike that through her chest. His eyes gleamed as she dashed forward, swinging her blade.

The blade slammed into the side of his neck and his hand shot forward to grab her chest. There was silence as her sword exploded with that golden glow, and he felt his neck melt around her blade but he stood without crumbling in pain.

“The only way I would ever join a demon is in death!” she glared down on his hand grabbing her breasts, and her eyes grew as cold as ice, “Are you sure that you do not just fancy my body, demon?” but as she stared in his eyes, all she saw was a deep darkness.

“Humans are so fickle and weak.” He tightened his grasp around her chest, a purple light circling his wrist and disappearing. Her blade pressed hard to sever his neck, but she was too slow — a light shot out of his palm, ripping every time apart in a straight line before him, “Die, you fool.”

Her eyes widened in shock, and her grasp weakened around her blade. Her pupils dilated as she lowered her gaze to stare in the hole her chest, a hole the size of a football staring back at her. There was a cold gleam in Mylos’ eyes as she lifted her gaze to stare into them.

“Yes. I am going to make your wish come true.” He grabbed her before she could collapsed to the ground, the shocked expression frozen into her face. Staring down upon her lifeless body, feeling her temperature drop, he smiled, “You would make a promising pawn, Madeleine.”
