chapter 37. Relentless flame poisons.

After an entire hour of relentless agony the first poison finally wore off and Naath started taking deep breaths. He fell over onto his back and was covered in sweat, his chest rose and fell heavily with each breath.

Elder Gui smiled and said “good, your body only took an hour to adjust to a single drop, now let's add another shall we?”

Without giving Naath a chance to answer, elder Gui took out another drop of the same poison and sent it into Naath’s body. However this time Naath hardly felt anything at all, it was like a dull ache more than it was a crippling pain. After only a few moments even the dull ache was gone, and Naath was breathing normally he had even stopped sweating. Elder Gui smiled and said

“good you have already adapted completely to the nerve striking poison. Now let’s move onto the radiant heat poison. This one will make your body feel like it’s on fire as the flame energy courses through your entire body.” Without another word the poison was put into Naath’s body and he instantly felt heat come from the inside of his body to the outside of it in waves. The heat came from a murky fire energy coursing through his blood.

As soon as this fire energy appeared Naath’s true void arts circulated automatically and began to absorb the fire energy. However Naath forcibly stopped it, he needed to do this and train his own body, and he recognized that. After he stopped his true void arts the heat continued to come out in wave after wave. Naath felt like a raging wildfire was burning inside of his body, even the area around him became hot. He grit his teeth and forced himself to sit down cross legged with a straight posture and meditate. He endured the pain of the heat coursing through his body that made it feel like his organs were melting and tried to remain as calm as possible.

Elder Gui was watching, slowly and silently nodding his head seemingly pleased with Naath’s progress. After a few hours Naath’s body had finally adapted to this kind of poison as well shocking elder Gui. In his eyes Naath had a freakishly adaptable physique, the flame poison he had just used would leave most people in screaming agony for days or weeks not mere hours. Yet Naath even during this had not made a single sound other than his deep calm breaths. When he felt that the poison was no longer effective on him Naath opened his eyes.

He extended his arm like he had done the first time and cut open a place on it. Elder Gui didn’t hesitate to inject the next poison into the wound. This one was a more intense heat poison that came from a flame viper, it has the effect of targeting one's blood vessels with flame energy causing the blood to slowly evaporate. If one could endure it however they would notice a distinct improvement in the purity of their own blood. But it’s a double edged sword and most cultivators would never dream of using the venom as a resource. The pain that came with it was like liquid fire flowing in one's veins.

Naath grit his teeth and stayed in his meditative posture, he continued to take deep, calm, and even breaths. Every vein on his body was bulging and his sweat even had a slight red tinge to it. This was from his blood slowly evaporating and leaving through his pores creating a grizzly sight. After another hour Naath let out one especially long breath and then coughed out a strange black liquid. Elder Gui and the rune both jumped when they saw this. This was the impurities expelled from the body due to all the flame energy refining it. It was similar to how making steel or other metals more pure produced slag.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

The reason it was so shocking was because of the short amount of time it took Naath to be able to remove these impurities and adapt to the poison. After this one was yet another flame poison, this one was twice as potent as the flame vipers venom. It came from a beast known as a flare scorpion, it’s sting and the venom in it directed flame energy into one's muscles making it feel as if they had done 20 years of exercise without rest all at once. Naath continued with his routine of sitting and breathing calmly as his body worked on becoming immune to the poison.

After 24 hours Naath had gone through nine different flame poisons and was in a puddle of sweat with a large spot of impurities in front of him.

Elder Gui grabbed another vile and said “Naath this one will be far worse than any of the others so far, this one is called the king of fire poisons. It comes from a special magical beast called a magmatic cobra, it tends to live inside of volcanoes. The fire energy in this venom is incredibly potent and is the reason I have used all of the other ones first. Please brace yourself for this.”

Naath nodded his head and stuck his arm out again signaling for elder Gui to use the poison. Elder Gui let out a breath and allowed the poison into Naath’s body. This poison was different, not just because of the more potent flame energy. It was different because it targeted the entire body, not one specific system. The instant it entered his body Naath let out a grunt from the pain and grit his teeth even harder. However this was just the beginning of the poison’s effects.

It started in his blood and after a few moments it felt like liquid magma was flowing through Naath’s veins. He had tears building in his eyes at this stage, a few minutes later it spread out into his muscles and it felt like they were melting away. It was an indescribable burning pain, his breathing began to become slightly unsteady at this point. He corrected this quickly and regained his focus as the poison spread into his bones. At this his eyes went wide and he let out a groan from the pain.

His breathing quickened and he was unable to calm it down at all. Then the poison spread into his nerves causing Naath to lose his posture and begin to lightly cry out in pain. After this it spread into his organ systems and he began to scream wildly at the overwhelming pain coursing through his entire body. He was now rolling on the ground and crying out loudly enough to shake the air inside of the barrier. Light black runes began to rotate on top of the shed with the poison vials as well. Elder Gui had clearly seen this coming and protected his shed.

This continued for several minutes before any change occurred, at this time Naath’s sweat turned crimson and then began to darken. After a dozen minutes his sweat became drops of pure black disgusting liquid that smelled like sewage. This was yet more impurities being released from his body through every pore. Inside Naath’s body felt like a raging volcano that could go off at any time. At the same time obvious changes were occurring as his body became cleansed of all of these impurities. His muscles became more elastic, his bones became even more ethereal, his blood was clean like a spring that had formed from the clouds.

His nerves exchanged signals almost twice as fast as before seemingly unimpeded by anything. Naath’s eyes were bulging and he was still crying out as he rolled around on the ground unaware of all of these changes. He was wildly gasping for breath in between screams. Finally when the pain began to die down Naath stopped rolling around and his screams quieted down to pained grunts with every breath. After another hour the pain had fully subsided, elder Gui at this time took out a large jug of water. Naath without any hesitation downed the entire thing and then collapsed onto his back in exhaustion.

Elder Gui smiled and said “well done enduring all of that Naath, as many impurities as you have expelled you should check your body's internal condition.”

Hearing this Naath silently checked his body’s condition, he was shocked to see all of the changes that had occurred and also realized his body was responding faster than it had before. A sense of accomplishment filled Naath after he endured all of that and he asked.

“Master, when will we begin the next round of poisons?”

Elder gui smiled and said “we will not continue with any more poisons for 24 hours, after all I'm not the devil. However your silver moon wolf, Brutus was it? He will also have to endure this training, he is clearly very important to you and I won't let you be distracted in battle for the sake of his safety like with that bear.”
