Chapter 0162
While Bei Ting Mao was throwing himself into the fight, the rearguard wasn’t slouching either.
Fenix was insane on the field. Imagine a burst type attack but instead of shooting in one direction, it has a homing component to it. Each spell circle Fenix cast shot out seven Fireballs and each Fireball hit a vital point on the magical beasts.
Tempest had belittled Fenix before for avoiding her backlash issue previously. She had told Fenix to increase her resistance to the fire backlash while covering her weakness with misdirections and her handy charms.
Fenix took Tempest’s advice to heart. Fenix made it look like she was casting Wind Blade interspersed with her Fireball spells, giving the other mages the impression she was a fire wind mage. No one could tell her Wind Blade was due to the charm she leeched off Tempest previously. Tempest was right next to her and she knew Fenix was only a single element fire mage and she can’t tell if Fenix was a fire mage or a fire wind mage.
Fenix sneakily using the water charms Tempest gave her to calm the raging fire surging through her body was also done discreetly. So much for trying to build resistance to the fire backlash.
Others couldn’t tell, but Tempest could. She made the charms so she can sense their use within a certain area. She made a note to remind Fenix about this aspect of her charms.
Tempest had a chance to see what immense raw power combined with absolute control and precision was like. Each Fireball or Wind Blade killed its intended target. Bodies started to pile as high as a small mountain in front of Fenix.
The small mountain would have turned into a big mountain if Fenix didn’t send some of the more valuable magical beast corpses into her mage robe. Feeding the greedy bottomless depth that was Tempest backed by the demands of Fenix’s power was going to be expensive.
Fenix has money.
Her mother was never stingy with her in the material and resource department. With all the resources her mother provided her, Fenix knew it wasn’t going to be enough the bottomless hole up.
Graden, protecting their rear, wasn’t as aggressive as Fenix. His job was to kill any magical beasts coming from behind them and any magical beasts stupid enough to try and sneak attack them.
As a fire wood mage, Graden was terrible. Tempest had reminded him to utilize his fire spells along with his wood spells but the passive-aggressive guy didn’t listen. He continued to primarily used his wood spells as his main attacks.
There were reasons why Graden focused on his wood type attacks instead of his fire type attacks, reasons Graden wasn’t sure how to explain. So, in his kind sweet way, he’d listen to Tempest’s ranting, taking all the care and concern in the lecture but ignoring the message completely.
Graden may be terrible as a fire wood mage, but as a wood mage, Graden was deadly. Graden set up a perimeter using poisonous vines, thorny poisonous shrubs, and trees secreting poisonous sap.
A level two magical beast got scratched by one of the plants and died within 15 seconds. A level three magical beast got scratched by one of the plants and died within 10 seconds. A level four magical beast got scratched by one of the plants and died within 5 seconds…
Yeah, Tempest wasn’t going to even think about what type of poison could kill magical beasts faster as their levels increased.
Poison users are scary.
Never irritate the poison user.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Never irritate the poison user who is also the cook.
Scary!
Hmmm… poison user who is also the cook was collecting the corpses of the magical beasts he killed.
Poison rendered delicious through the cooking process. Greater yumminess because of extra spice. The added kick of chili.
Besides, didn’t Ventus mention Tempest was immune to most poison. Deliciousness heading her way. Gobble gobble.
Seeing the drooling Tempest, Ventus knew what Tempest was thinking. Although Tempest may be immune to most poison, the poison Graden was using to kill the magical beasts were a special type of poison that could harm Tempest.
Tempest, pay attention to the fight.
“Honey glazed ham.”
Tempest, repeat after me - drugs are bad!
“What? What drugs?” Tempest immediately pulled herself out of her imagined food-induced trance.
Graden is using a type of drug that is as dangerous as a drug to kill the magical beasts. Ventus wasn’t lying to Tempest. She just skirted the truth a bit. The poison Graden was using to kill the magical beasts was much worse than drugs.
Tempest turned to look at Graden like he was a kidnapper offering her a piece of candy to get into the van.
“Lowly scum!” Through Ventus’ misdirection, Tempest’s opinion of Graden went down to the bottom of the gutters. She ignored the slimeball in favor of the other members of her group.
Li Ming.
Ah, that girl was getting weirder and weirder on Tempest.
At first, she was the jilted fiancee, then did a 180 and became someone completely different. It started with a name change. Slowly, her personality changed as well. Tempest wouldn’t have noticed the change in Li Ming if she wasn’t going psycho on her right now.
It started with a little sunshine and gentle drizzle.
Sunshine in the middle of a dense forest made up of tall trees with long intersecting branches that block out most of the light. Gentle drizzle, again, they were in the middle of a dense forest made up of tall trees with long intersecting branches that provide ample shade from the rain.
“Rain of Sunlight.” Li Ming ignited the spell she cast. Rain of Sunlight was not a one or two circle spell. It was a combination of spells. Combination spells were spells that combined or crashed - depending on the effects the caster desired - two different elemental spells.
Rain of sunlight shone from unknown sources and burned all the magical beasts within a five-meter radius in front of Li Ming. Did Li Ming copy Rimuru’s spell or did she learn the spell from her spirits?
Cause it sure seems like she copied Rimuru.
The principal of the spell remains the same. The raindrops were similar to a high powered magnifying glass, controlling the direction of the sunlight while intensifying the heat. The theory doesn’t sound impressive but keeps in mind lasers follow the same principals and it can cut through diamonds.
In this case, Li Ming’s sunlight had was about a thousand times stronger than a laser weapon. It had to be since the hides of the magical beasts were stronger than steel. Each ‘sunlight’ sliced the head off of its intended target.
As a fellow storm, Tempest wanted to stand up for compatriots. Tempest, Rimuru Tempest. They are both Tempest.
Tempest wanted to slap Li Ming and tell her not to rip off other people’s attacks. It had nothing to do with the fact that Li Ming remained alert and vigorous after casting her combination spell while Tempest had to lay flat on her back after she cast her and killed all the bandits that were chasing her for the Brilliant Yin Sect Disciple Token.
It also had nothing to do with the fact that Li Ming was better than her using her water spells. She even made more money than Tempest with their Water Spheres.
Nope, Tempest was not feeling inferior to Li Ming.
The person who was giving everyone an inferiority complex was Starm. She had no idea what type of spell he was using, casting or maintaining but anyone who gets in within three meters of the group dropped dead. There were no visible wounds on the magical beasts. They simply dropped dead.
Starm was indeed a five-thousand-year-old monster. He knew wondrous, strange and complex spells that require little mana to jumpstart but could maintain the effects by absorbing the surrounding energy to feed itself.
He cast his spell and wait for the magical beasts to die when they entered his trap. The little brat was able to leech massive amounts of mana from Tempest and he used less than 0.001% of the mana to kill the magical beasts coming their way.
Starm spent most of his time bagging the magical beast corpses.
On one hand, Tempest applauded him for his thrifty nature while on the other hand, Tempest wanted to smack him for his shifty ways.
“70% of the loot is mine.” Tempest consoled herself while she killed the magical beasts the old fashion way, one hit ko. It wasn’t as fast as Fenix with her seven death per spell cast, Graden’s scary poison wall, Li Ming’s AOE kill spell or Starm’s trap type spells but it got the job done. She didn’t forget to nab the loot either.
“Keep up the good work. We are pushing the magical beasts back!”
Whoever said that was a damn jinx because the second after said that a spatial rift open and spat out a level six magical beast
