Chapter 0105

Chapter 0105

Tempest jackknifed out of her bed with a start. Her headache let her know it was a foolish idea. She plopped back into her bed with a groan.

“Drink some water.”

Tempest sat up like an arthritic old lady and gulp down the water, expecting it to be a special water that has magical healing properties. It was plain water. With a pounding head reminding her supine is the best position to be in right now, Tempest ease her sorry back into the comfortable bed.

“There is a reason why mages never test out new spells alone. You're lucky you only receive a few minor injuries for your rash actions. Mages have a high mortality rate. Getting killed testing out new spells is one of the minor reasons why mages die. You're lucky you only receive a few minor injuries for your rash actions.”

“Ugghh, no lecture until the pain goes away.” Tempest covered her head with a blanket to block out Cardis voice.

It didn’t help.

Cardis can make himself heard through his wind element.

“Tempest, have you considered how you will die?”

“I’m too young to die.” Tempest retorted. Death constantly shadows life. Tempest accepted the fact. It doesn’t mean she wants to talk about her own death.

“A True Child of the Elements is truly bless by the spirits, however, the blessing also comes with its own set of trouble.”

“Not listening.”

“Tempest.”

“Lada di da do. Lada di da do.”

“Fine. Have it your way. Don’t say I didn’t try to warn you.” Cardis grouched, but still look on with worry. Tempest was in her la-la land mode. She becomes the three anti-monkeys — see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil — when someone tries to broach bring up a serious discussion she is not ready for.

Cultivators dream of reaching immortality even though less than 1% of cultivators become immortals. As a True Daughter of Storm, Tempest becoming an immortal is almost guaranteed provided she lives.

A True Child of the Elements has a much smoother road in cultivation but they have a greater pitfall compared to other mages. First and foremost is the affections of their spirits. A True Child of the Elements is like a much anticipated and much loved child. The mother holds the child tenderly in her arms and tries to protect the child from any and all dangers only to realize the child died from suffocation.

It is amazing Tempest manage to live to her current age without exploding from oversaturation of mana provided by her spirits. Cardis isn’t worried about Tempest’s spirit. They’ve been restrained in their ‘affection’ for Tempest quite well, allowing her body to grow.

Cardis main concern is the dangers involved with learning new spells.

It is part of a child’s nature to play, have fun and explore the world. A True Child of the Elements learning spells at a much faster rate than normal mages. What they learn, they wish to put into action.

Scenes like Tempest running into a tree because she couldn’t control her spell well enough is normal. Cardis was correct when he said she was lucky to only receive minor injuries because she wasn’t careful when learning new spells.

Scenes like mages burned to death because they were testing out a new fire spell, mages frozen to death because they were testing out a new water spell, mages cut into a thousand pieces because they were testing out a new wind spell is common among the younger, less experiences mages.

Normal mages are older enough to take precaution. Tempest is young, brash and rash. She has the intelligences to grasp the theories of her elements yet lacks the maturity to protect herself against spell backlash.

Cardis could have saved her from the running into the tree and he could have given her pills to lessen the pain but he chose not to. He wants his little Successor to experience failure and the consequence of said failure. As long as it isn’t life threatening, Cardis does not intend to intervene with her experiments. She will live longer for his painstaking care.

“Are you done?”

“No. Pain still presents.”

“Let this be a lesson Tempest. Always be careful when you practise your spells. You might add to the mage mortality statistic one of these days. If it happens, I will avow all knowledge of you.”

“Okay, got it.”

Cardis knew she wasn’t listening to his warning. It’s fine. There are other chances to warn her. She is his little Successor after all.

“Tempest, who do think is stronger? A melee combatant or a long-distance caster such as ourselves?” Cardis asked, leading the subject to his next lesson.

“That’s easy. Both. If the enemy is far way, attack with long range spells. If the enemy is close, attack with melee combat.”

Cardis smiled, satisfied with his little Successor. She really thinks outside the box. “Good. I’m glad your brain wasn’t damage when you tried to kiss a tree at high speed. Since you’re up and about, it’s time for physical exercise.”

“No, I’m still sick. Pain still presents.” Tempest burrowed deeper into the covers. Her actions said, “I’m not getting up any time soon.”

“The first step to physical exercise is picking a weapon. I guess we can wait until you get better.”

“Money! I’ll go.” Tempest got up and dressed like her but was on fire.

The twitch in Cardis eye return with a vengeance. Can someone tell him how does a weapon equal money in that silly little brain of hers?
