Chapter 0096
After the horrible fiasco of the first Bestowment, Tempest thought there would be no other takers, yet she was wrong. Instead of being the object of criticism, the Elders look at Kataigida with eyes filled with fanaticism and adoration.
M!
These bastards are all masochists!
They already saw heart wrenching result of the first Bestowment, yet the rushed headlong into the train wreck. They are worse than a puppy begging for treats! They are the ferocious cat demanding dinner when their shovel officer forgot to feed them. The swipe of a cat claw isn’t something Tempest is going to forget anytime soon.
See if she was going to feed those feral cats again!
If the Elders were able to read Tempest’s mind, and judging by the facial expression of a few of the mages, they did get an inkling of her thoughts, they would have run up to her and smack her. A few were tempted to do just that except she had a Resonance bond with Kataigida who was Cardis’ successor.
Tempest was expecting another when another mage receive the Bestowment, yet she was disappointed when a woman with light green hair with blond highlights simply closed her bright blue eyes and began meditating.
“Everyone be careful! She is going through an Embodiment to become an immortal.”
Tempest, having the self-preservation ability of a drunk idiot behind the wheel of a car, stood still in confusion when the ground began to shake, sending her tumbling against Kataigida’s side. Kataigida grabbed Tempest and ran outside the guild while Cardis brought the blond streak green hair woman out.
Cardis threw the woman in an open plain then flew far away from her.
Kataigida had just landed at the top of the mountain overlooking the vast plain when Cardis joined the duo. “What’s happening?”
“Revelen Torn, the wind light mage who receives the second Bestowment is taking the step to become an immortal. It might take centuries for you to get to this step, but watch carefully.” Cardis watched Revelen with an air of someone who had seen the scene one too many times and got bored of it.
“Ummm… then why are all the other mages with Revelen at ground zero and we are here?”
“The process of a mage becoming an immortal is called in an Embodiment. A tear occurs in the planar borders opening a portal between the Cardinal Realm and the Realm of the Spirits and for one moment in time, the spirits can touch their mortals. The contact between a mortal and the spirits allows the mortal to become an immortal. During that time, the elemental and spiritual energy is the strongest where the mage is. The other mages are trying to get close to Revelen to absorb the excess mana, furthering the cultivation.”
Massive eddies of the wind began to form around Revelen. At first it was a small gust of wind, then it grew and grew until it was a large tornado connecting both land and sky. Despite the massive dust cloud created by the tornado, a bright blinding light shone through. The scene reminds Tempest of a light bulb shining through the dusty lamp shade.
There are mages everywhere flocking towards Revelen, trying to absorb the torrent of mana created by the tear in space. Those who knew their limit did not try to go further. They simply sat down and cultivate. It was the greedy fool who overestimates themselves that got sent flying by the turbulent wind yet they got up and tried to push their way into the vortex of the tornado.
Seven Elders stood directly win whipping winds with nary a hair out of place while three Elders stood mere meters from the blinding light, silently observing the changes in Revelan as if they were mere observer watching a tv show.
The object of scrutiny herself didn’t know what was going on as she focused on cummuning with the sprits and absorbing all the mana to push her into immortality.
Over time the mana density in the air became thicker and thicker, forcing the weaker mages to pull back. The Elders increase their vigilance as they knew what was coming.
Dark thunder clouds began to form, slowly heading towards the eye of the tornado. In response, winds quickly picked up, expanding the anvil portion of the tornado to gather mana, preparing to fight off the thunder clouds.
In a few moments the two power clash, discharging rain, thunder and lightning everywhere.
The tornado fought valiantly as it pushed against the power generated by the thunder clouds. It borrowed the heat generated by the bright light to increase the updraft and indirectly increasing anvil portion which was engaging in battle.
Instead of fighting the tornado head on, the thunder cloud absorb channel the power of the tornado it came into contact with and disperse it across the land.
The tornado knew it was fighting a losing battle. It can’t hold out much longer as the energy it pulled from the surrounding was dispersed and the elemental energy from the rift weakened as the tear slowly closes. With one last effort, it gathers its power and charged into the thundercloud. It knew it can’t destroy the thundercloud since it had a terrain advantage and the tornado was an invader.

The power of a moving tornado was nothing to scoff at. Winds moving at least 100 km an hour can pick up house and fling it like a yo-yo ball. Devastation laid after it move through the land, yet it barely reduce the severity of the thundercloud.
As quickly as it formed, the tornado subsided, leaving a vulnerable Revelan still communing with her spirits.
Lightning strike, reminding mages the majesty of nature.
Lightning strike.
Lightning strike.
Lightning strike.
Lightning strike.
Lightning strike.
Lightning strike.
Lightning strike.
The seven Elders standing in the wind previously each took a lightning strike and fell down under the might of heaven. Each Elder, despite their cultivation, defensive magic and talisman, was burned black as charcoal. Nary a stitch of clothing can been seen on their black as night body.
Lightning strike.
Lightning strike.
Lightning strike.
The three mages closest to Revelan also took a lightning strike each. They too were nearly burned to a crisp.
“This is all we can do for you, Revelan.” Cardis murmured. “Hurry up and take the last step.”
“Why don’t you go there and protect her?” Tempest asked the obvious. Everyone was doing their part, yet the strongest of them all was standing there, doing nothing.
“I can’t. The power of the lightning will intensify by a thousand times if an immortal help a mortal withstand the wrath of heaven. Having obtained immortality, it is not our place to interfere with the mortal world. The pressure of the heaven is a mortal’s burden to bear.”
The road it immortality is filled with dangers and peril everywhere. Only when one takes the risk can they obtain the reward.
Boom.
A lightning strikes Revelan and... bounce to hit Tempest.
A True Daughter of Storm has lightning as one of its element. The lightning did nothing to Tempest, much to Cardis’ relief.
Boom.
Boom.
Boom.
Three lightning strike burst out in rapid succession. Instead of hitting Revelan and then bouncing to Tempest like the first one did, directly striking Tempest.
Giggle.
“Quit tickling me.” Tempest laughed as electricity sizzle through her body and whispers enter her mind. Kataigida embrace Tempest, keeping up the charade that she was the True Daughter of Storm.
Boom. Greetings True Daughter of Storm.
“Heeellooo. Could..Could you quit tickling me? It is hard to concentrate.
Boom. Is this better?
“Yes.” The tickling sensation stopped, however Tempest’s hairs were still standing on ends. It’s like touching those plasma ball. The light inside moves in random direction until someone touches it. The light then converges on the hand touching the outside of the ball.
Boom. We offer you greeting True Child of Storm and wish you well on your road to immortality.
“Why are speaking to me when you are the Heaven’s Will.”
Boom. We are conveying the will of the heaven, not the actually Heaven’s Will. A messenger instead of the will itself.
“Why did you forsake your duty to speak to me?”
Boom. We are lonely.
“Huh? Isn’t the Dao all about secluded mediation and cutting off their emotions and all that?”
Boom. One needs to be able to withstand loneliness to walk the path of an immortal, the path of greatness. The further they progress the lonelier they become. Only a few can stand at the peak.
“How can you be lonely?”
Boom. How can we not be lonely? We are the messenger of heaven. We test all the potential in all realms. Many fear us. Many stood against us. Many fall before us. No one can understand us.
“What about the other lightning mages?”
Boom. Their understanding of the lightning element is not high enough to converse with us. They can barely speak to their own spirits, much less us.
“What does the spirit want from their mages? I mean, the road to cultivation take a lot of time and energy. What does the spirit want from their investment?
Boom. Perfection. The want to be whole. The mortal is a medium which they achieve that.
“What happens to the mortal during and after they achieve perfection?”
Boom. The spirits can take form in the plane. It is the mortal’s choice what happens to them afterwards. Enough of your question child. Speak to us of your experience in this world.
Tempest knew she got all the answer she was going to get so she spoke with the ‘messenger of Heaven’s Will’ about her experience in the Cardinal Realm while everyone except Cardis looked at Kataigida, who was blocking Tempest from their view like she was a monster.
