Chapter 0033
Tempest’s heart is conflicted. She knew they were in a killed or be killed situation, well the others are, Tempest can run away anytime she wanted and she was sure the group watching them from above will step in if the death toll got too high. They were lucky no one died yet. Still… what evil woman can kick a cute puppy like that?
Speaking of which, when are they going to intervene? Are they going to let the group fend for themselves? Tempest is sure the three newcomers won’t allow it to come to that. Emery and unlucky lady they were looking for are fight for their lives right now.
Tempest was confident the group would intervene if things got dangerous enough. It is why she was brazen enough to sell charms in the middle of the fight.
“Mage pay attention!”
Terra!
The brunette was out to get her. Tempest is sure of it. She just takes her eyes off the fight for a little bit and its mage, pay attention. She doesn’t have ADHD madam psychologist! The official diagnosis was schizophrenia.
“Mage to your left!”
“Help!”
“Give me back up over here.”
Three modified Wind Blade assisted the complainers in their battle. The red mage got a firm grasp on the modified Wind Blade. She can control it well enough to the cast three spells back to back and send it to three different directions.
“Mage pay attention.”
“Quit with the mage pay attention! I am paying attention. Just because I’m not attacking the wolf you want me to attack doesn’t mean I’m not fighting. I saved everyone here at least once. If I follow your orders at least two people would have died.”
“Liar.” Terra directly accused Tempest since she doesn’t have a retort ready.
“Do you really want to do this?” snarked an irate mage.
“Need assistance over here.”
“Over here too.”
“Help!”
Modified Wind Blade. Modified Wind Blade. “Damn whiners.” Modified Wind Blade.
Suddenly, Tempest notice an anomaly at the corner of her eye. While casting spell faster than a machine gun, Tempest paid attention to a girl wearing a brown dress fighting with a long sword and dagger. Her instinct was telling her there was something off with the woman.
Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.
Her instinct is right.
That cunning, conniving, backstabbing, evil, heinous, malicious, nefarious, vicious, vile, wicked and all the words that describe a two faced wench! Ssshhee, she pushed the girl beside into the jaws of an Iron Clawed Wolf. That… that.. that thing wasn’t in any danger. There was no plausible reason for her to kill that girl.
“Nicca!”
“Someone helps Nicca!”
At the first death of one of their own, chaos ensued. A few other girls tried to kill their way to towards of the corpse of the girl called Nicca while other realize neither Aria Se Jivock or Xing Zhi Hui were going to help them.
The line of defense created by the vanguard scattered like a dandelion in the wind as the cowardly mercenaries fled while there was a chance with the rearguard a few steps behind them.
Stupid.
Wolf packs hunt like runners a relay race while the prey is a single sprinter. When one wolf gets tired, it passes the baton to the next wolf so it can start afresh to chase the weakening prey. Once the sprinter slows down, the wolves will pounce.
Herd animals know the method of the carnivores. They stick as a group while running to confuse and fight off their attackers. The old, the young, the weak, the sick and now Tempest is going to add the stupid into that category, are separated from the herd and hunted down.
Previously, the mercenary group was in a decent fortified position, forcing three options on the Iron Clawed Wolves, attack the group, lay siege to the group or retreat. The Iron Clawed Wolves attack the mercenaries like a group of bandits attacking the fortress in search of wealth.
Now that the guards have been scared out of the fortress, they are just weak loners scattering in front of the might of the Iron Clawed Wolves. Seeing the break in the vanguard as the cowardly tried to escape, the Iron Clawed Wolves renew their attacks, their aim were the runners instead of the mercenaries who stayed behind the walls.
All this was not a concern for Tempest.
Tempest was in a rage. A red haze began to creep into Tempest’s vision, like watching a movie where the edges change color, all myopic and focused on the culprit.
Betrayers will die!
