“So you’re Nyolk?”
“Aye. I don’t know why they sent you to me though.”
“They said you would train me.”
“Yes, but I’ve already paid them back.”
“The smith asked me to remind you about the Golem.”
“Oh. Aye, I remember that. Bugger, I do owe them.”
He sighed and turned back to the boy in front of him.
“Weapon Master Nyolk at your service, although not by choice.”
“Weapon Master? There must be some mistake!”
“Mistake? Of course there’s no mistake. Why would there be a mistake?”
“But I’m a monk!”
“You can still use some weapons.”
“But I became a monk because I don’t want to use weapons. I want to fight with just my own body and skill.”
Weapon Master Nyolk thought about this for a while.
“Very well.”
“You’ll recommend another trainer?” The boy said hopefully.
“No. I’ll train you. Aye, I will.”
“But I don’t want to use weapons!”
“And yet you will. Not a sword, or a club or an axe though. What are you wearing?”
“Um, a cloak, a shirt-”
“No armor? Not even subtle armor?”
“No.”
“Perfect. Especially the cloak. Something long and flowing will help with this. You are going to practice, fighting like you normally do, only you cannot touch the dummy. You cannot impact the dummy by hitting its clothes or by hitting it through your clothes, an elbow, for example, would not be allowed. You can grab its clothes, and you can snag it with yours. After every two or three blows, you must spin so that your cloak hits it in the face, near the eyes. Aye, I’ll teach you to fight with a weapon unarmed.”
Rell began following the instructions.
He was disappointed, but he didn’t think he would be able to find another teacher, and although he would still fall behind the rest, he would fall behind even more if he did nothing while they trained.
He didn’t like the style of fighting with clothes. It was unrefined, not at all like the graceful movements he preferred. The spin, on the other hand, was showy, useless, and thoroughly ridiculous.
Clothes Mastery: Beginner Lv1 0%
Increases damage and speed when fighting with clothes.
If you have Tailoring you can gain additional benefits.
After he finished practicing, he was forced to mend the clothes where they had torn. He knew that his teacher hoped that he would learn Tailoring eventually, although he hoped he wouldn’t. He wouldn’t want such a useless skill.
“Now I want you to grab the clothes and throw the dummy.”
Throwing Mastery: Beginner Lv1 0%
Increases damage and speed when throwing opponents.
“You’re learning pretty quick, aren’t you? Let’s try another couple skills. You can’t wear it, but most of your enemies will be wearing armor. It can shield them, but if you hit it right you can amplify the power of your blow.”
Resonance Mastery: Beginner Lv1 0%
Can use an opponent’s armor to increase damage.
Bonus to hearing.

Bonus to sound based skills.
It had been almost a month.
“You see, with good equipment, an adventurer can nearly double their power. That means that you will be hard pressed to find one who doesn’t wear enchanted clothes or armor. Now you can take advantage of that.”
“I guess that makes sense. Now what?”
“Now you are going to practice throwing dirt in the dummy’s eyes.”
“But that’s dishonorable!”
“Aye, it is pretty smart isn’t it?”
“But that-”
“Look monk. I am in control here, so you are going to throw dirt. You might not like the skill when you leave, but someday it might save your life. Now get on it.”
Rell didn’t want to, but he had to learn everything he could, and couldn’t risk missing a better skill later, so he began to practice.
Dirt Tossing: Beginner Lv1 0%
A dishonorable and cheap technique where you hurl dirt into your opponent’s eyes to blind him.
Nyolk told him to keep practicing this time.
Level Up: Dirt Tossing [3]
Learned a new skill, Pebble Fling.
Nyolk told him to keep practicing both skills until he got the third.
Environmental Mastery: Beginner Lv1 0%
Gives a bonus to movement skills.
Increases damage when fighting with your surroundings.
May generate additional skills from use in specific environments.
“Good. Now you just have have one skill left to learn. See these dummies?”
Nyolk had set up a huge number of practice dummies in uneven spacing.
“You will be using throw to hit dummies into other dummies. If you really want to mix things up, you can hit them into each other. Begin.”
Rell had the feeling he knew where this was going. However, this skill took even longer to generate than the rest of the skills, but soon enough he got it.
Opponent Mastery: Beginner Lv1 0%
Increases damage and speed using your opponents as weapons to strike at each other.
Rell smiled. This skill would definitely be useful.
“Are you going to teach me anything else?”
“Don’t ask me that!” Nyolk said in mock terror, “I might think of something.”
His voice became serious again.
“It’s time for you and your friends to meet up again. Knock them out. But, er, not literally.”
“Yeah. See you later Nyolk.”
“Become strong. Stronger than anyone.”
Rell smiled as he walked out the door.
“Stronger than anyone.”
