Volume 2 Chapter Four: Fighting With a Broken Sword

I missed four chapters, so I will be releasing an extra chapter every day I can. I may miss more chapters soon, just warning. Chapters will not be locked until a day has passed, so chapter three is still open. Intentional.

“So I have ‘wind affinity’? What does that mean?”

He looked at her, took a deep breath and let it go in a sigh.

“It means I can’t teach you.”

She stared at him in shock.

“But they said you could help me become stronger!”

“Hmmm. I suppose I can do that. I just can’t teach you. To put it more precisely, you can’t be taught by me.”

“Then how can you make me stronger?”

“Simple. I just change your equipment.”

“But that doesn’t make me stronger. You can’t just give me powerful items and call it a day!”

“Very true. Very true indeed. I’ll need your sword and armor.”

“But you can’t just give me better equipment! You even agreed.”

“I did, so why are you arguing?”

Somewhat confused at what he was going for, she handed over her items.

“Good. I have what you need somewhere around here.”

He dug around for a while, before pulling out a sword and some armor.

“Here you go. The sword is a katana, and the armor is my own design.”

Quarter Plate Armor:

Durability: 13/75

Armor: 10

Armor with less plating than half plate armor, designed to restrict movement as little as possible. Disrepair has decreased the armor rating.

Worn Katana:

Durability: 8/45

Damage: 2-16

Worn katana, nearly destroyed.

Disrepair has decreased the damage rating.

“Dude, these suck. Why not give me real items. You could just give me back the ones I gave to you. That’s how bad these are.”

“Hmm. That might work, but I have a better idea.”

“What i-”

“Get out of my house!”

He immediately grabbed her, muttered a few words under his breath, and she found herself in a forest, standing on a boulder.

“Where are we?!”

“Sorry, but I’ll be back in a while. I’ll give you a new sword in, let’s say, a week.”

“This thing will break in a day!”

“Then you’d better use it carefully.”

He disappeared.

“What kind of teacher just takes your stuff and leaves you in the woods anyway?”

“Human!”

“Human!”

“Human!”

She hesitantly drew her sword and turned around.

Kobolds.

Worn Katana durability decreased slightly.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

Worn Katana destroyed.

She pulled out her backup sword.

“Unmoving Blade!”

Two of the goblins in front of her turned grey and disappeared.

“Perfect Slash!”

“Hand Blade!”

The goblin mage screamed in rage and unleashed a blast of fire.

“Armor Cyclone!”

The fire swirled around her without touching her.

Quarter Plate Armor durability decreased slightly.

It was her last day, so she wanted to finish things off with a bag.

She wouldn’t use her secret technique. She had yet to perfect it.

“Heaven’s Blade!”

She felt her mana draining quickly. She couldn’t use this move for long, especially if she used other skills as well.

She swung and missed for the first time in the battle. However, she followed through on her move, spinning around. She lifted her leg, as if she was doing a backwards roundhouse.

“Wyvern’s Claw!”

Now only the captain was left.

The captain lifted his greatsword and swung down. She dodged to the side, her blade hitting his twenty times in the blink of an eye.

“Erosion…”

The captain swung in a horizontal arc, leaving her no place to dodge in time.

She smirked.

“Crumbling Blow!”

Her blade hit his, and although hers was cracked and rusted, his blade shattered, and her sword went through it, striking the captain in the chest.

Her blade cracked even further, shards of it falling off.

The goblin captain fell to the ground, turned grey, and vanished.

“Good job.”

She was unsurprised to see her “teacher”.

“Thanks. I hate to admit it, but this was actually pretty fun!”

“Of course it was. For you to grow, you had to be in the right environment. You had to have freedom and fun and happiness and all that.”

“Did the rest of my party have to do something similar?”

“They had different elements, and thus different places to be to hone their skills.”

“If they were half as fun as this, it would still be pretty good.”

“On that note, Teleport!”
