51. No Losers Allowed

51. No Losers Allowed

Due to what happened, Trevor made the hard decision of passing on going to the library, to study. Instead, he did a quick pitstop at the cafeteria to fill his belly, and packed a few fruits into his pockets on his way out, just in case, to then went straight to his safe room.

As soon as he closed the door behind himself, he opened his status, to check everything. He had this thought previously but now was able to confirm, that the practice during defense against magical arts class bared fruit in the form of 7 points in his 'Elemental Proficiency: Frost'.

There was also a new entry in his 'Spells' tab. The icicle.

He decided to practice the spell for a moment. Until he runs out of energy or reaches the 10 points in elemental proficiency for the mission. He really wanted the spell, since it could be a possible advantage when he finally decides to kick Duncan's ass.

With a nasty smirk on his face, he started casting the icicle and crashing the ice on the wall. Just as he ran out of power, he also managed to hit the required 10. He was unsure why it went so fast, because fire definitely took longer, despite him casting 'Flare' left and right.

With that out of the way and lack of energy, to continue with a different element, Trevor sat on the floor and started meditating. He definitely needed a bigger energy pool to face Duncan.

"He shot so many of those icicles at me. Almost twice as I did, and I was the one who almost ran out of power, while he still probably had some", he thought to himself, as he closed his eyes.

Everything almost immediately fell into place, as he was so familiar with the whole process of breathing properly. At that point, he could easily keep up the meditation going while thinking about something else, and his thoughts quickly drifted away to the project Professor Martin Winchester was pursuing.

It was incomplete, and yet so easily moved the power inside him, to an extent so massive, that it made him feel sick during the first moment he spent inside that space. He still couldn't shake off that feeling.

When he returned to reality, his whole body felt stiff, so he picked himself up, and walked around a bit, then checked his status. The 'Energy' statistic jumped up by a single point, which wasn't that impressive, but still was something.

Then he checked his phone, to see the time. It was late, and what was even worse, made him think again about Liv. He quickly found her number, and as he was about to call her, the excuses invaded his mind. After all, it was late, and waking her up seemed like not the best idea...

He shoved the device back into his pocket and finally went to sleep.

The next day started quite badly, as he felt tired because of the lack of sleep, but he somehow powered through the first few lessons, and then found himself sitting next to Lena in the 'history of magic' classroom. She seemed bored, as Professor Net started his usual monologue, expecting everybody to listen.

- Today I want to talk to you about something that some of you might find quite interesting - he started with the usual monotonous tone. - 'Crash'. The sport many of you know very well, but I'm pretty sure none of you know its beginnings. As magical powers developed among people, many of them wanted to compare their abilities with one another. The first idea, obviously, was dueling, but as many quickly found, it was quite dangerous and led to many serious injuries.

The teacher turned around and went to the blackboard behind him to write something with a piece of chalk.

- Rugby - he said, stepping to the side, and revealing the word, as he turned around. - It was the favorite sport of Xavier Velrosh. A very physical sport, that involved direct contact among the players, as they tried to score points on a rectangle playing field. He came up with an idea to allow the usage of certain spells during the game, which then later evolved into the game of 'Crash' we know today...

The professor continued, but Trevor stopped listening, as Lena poked him with her elbow.

- What are you gonna do? - she whispered.

- What? - West was confused about what she meant with her question.

- With that guy from yesterday.

- Duncan?

She shrugged her shoulders, indicating that she didn't really remember the name. Or at least wanted to pose this way.

- I hope you won't back off like a little bitch - she added.

- I won't.

- Then what are you gonna do? He won't back down either. Even now he is glaring at you - she slightly moved her head pointing at the bully, who was actually looking at Trevor.

- I'm gonna kick his ass. I just need proper timing and opportunity. There are older guys keeping watch around school, and I don't want them to interfere - he explained.

- Those losers? I could take them out for you - she offered.

- No thank you. I don't want to get expelled. I'm thinking of dueling him again during defense against magical arts class. I'll win fair and square, using magic.

- How honorable - she said with a lot of quite obvious irony in her voice.

- I just don't want any trouble. Besides, if I win with him, fair and square, in front of everybody, he will back down.

- Or get pissed, and even more jealous, so he will end up ambushing you when you won't expect it - she shrugged her shoulders.

- Are you worried about me? How cute - he said with venom dripping out of his voice.

She rolled her eyes.

- You are my friend now, and I can't be friends with losers, so I'm just making sure you will handle it. That's all.

- You don't need to worry, I'll...

- Mister West. Would you like to add something to my lecture? - suddenly the professor's voice got louder and reached Trevor who wasn't really paying attention.

- N-no sir. I'm sorry... - he said quickly, as his face started to burn from embarrassment.

The whole class started laughing.

- Please, be quiet everybody! - said the teacher.

It didn't work immediately, but the laughs died down soon.

- Now... Where were we? - asked Mister Net. - Oh, right. The rules...
