The history of magic was taught in a similar classroom to the one used by Professor Winchester. The teacher was an older man, with just a little white hair on his rather bald-looking head. He had a massive hooked nose and a pretty wrinkly face. He was constantly hunched over and walking with the support of a cane, but despite all of that, and his age, he wasn't wearing glasses. His eyes seemed to be working perfectly.
He was wearing a plain black robe, with any decorations, and his name was Peter Net.
His first lesson was utterly boring. He wasn't using any magic at all, and just slowly noted on the blackboard titles of books with the names of their authors, so the students could get familiar with those positions. He also noted dates and said that everybody should look up the maps of the city from all those periods.
Trevor almost fell asleep while noting all of that, while Lena, who again sat next to him, didn't even move a single finger.
- Let's go to the library - she said, as they finally left the classroom.
- Yeah - the boy agreed while rubbing his tired eyes. - Do you have any idea where it is?
- No.
- Ehh... - he sighed.
There was a small part of him that actually counted on her knowing the location of the library. Without that, they were forced to ask people or search on their own accord, which could end badly.
- But I know how to find out where it is - she added after noticing his reaction.
- Really?
- Yes. Follow me - she said and went on the move.
Trevor followed her. At the beginning in silence, but then he couldn't help but say:
- You've changed... - he pointed out. - You were different when we first met.
- I'm not used to people like you around. I've only lived among my family and among the asscrawlers. They both are different. My family is not as fragile as you, and they are more aggressive. And the asscrawlers... No matter what I do, they are worshiping me anyway.
- I'm not fragile. I can take a hit - Trevor argued.
- Not from me. And to answer your question, yes. I've changed. I'm trying to be friends, but it's quite annoying, as I have to be very wary about you.
- Why? Why do you want to be friends so bad?
She stopped and turned to face him, but instead of speaking, she just stared.
- What? - Trevor eventually asked.
- Nothing. Let's find the library - she said and turned back around, to immediately start walking again.
She led him to the entrance hall and then turned to head straight to a door deeper in the chamber. The students were walking across the whole space, chatting and laughing. He saw many that seemed to be older and a few that he definitely saw a few days ago in the park. He noticed also a few teachers, that seemingly were walking in the same direction as he was being led by Miss Karcrow.
They all couldn't help but pay some kind of attention to the strange girl.
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
- Let's ask one of the teachers, maybe - he proposed.
- Sure - she agreed and immediately accelerated to catch up to one of the professors.
With animal-like speed, she suddenly touched the shoulder of some man, who already was noticing her getting closer, and even managed to stop in time.
For Trevor, it was unbelievable how fast she could move, but the professor didn't seem that surprised. They talked shortly, and she suddenly appeared in front of the boy, scaring the shit out of him. He almost jumped.
- I know where it is - she informed nonchalantly.
He gasped but quickly got a hold of himself.
- G-good...
- Follow me - she said, slightly raising her head, as she turned around, and resumed leading him.
Like she was proud of what she had just done.
She picked one of the doors. Behind it was a staircase, leading to a floor above. There was a long corridor there, with many more doors. She took him to one of those and opened it without knocking, revealing a massive space filled with thousands of books placed one by one on the shelves of many bookstands.
Everything was clearly visible thanks to the light pouring down from a whole galaxy of small white crystals slowly drifting under the ceiling. Just that view was enough to hold Trevor's attention for solid few seconds before he managed to peel his eyes off it, as Lena moved forward, completely ignoring the incredibly beautiful swarm of lights.
The bookstands were tightly standing, next to one another, in a few rows. All behind a large counter, almost separating the room into two uneven halves. The half before the counter had a few tables placed there in a couple of rows. Some of them were currently occupied by a few students. All definitely older than Trevor.
They were reading, and taking notes, but paused to at least take a peek at the girl who just barged in like she owned the place.
- How can I help you, miss Karcrow? - asked an unknown voice.
It came from between the bookstands and belonged to an older woman wearing a black pointy hat, that soon after emerged from between the bookstands, and went straight to the counter to take a seat on the chair.
Her grey hair was peaking from under the headwear. The skin on her face was quite wrinkled, but despite her obvious age, she wasn't wearing any glasses.
- Me and my friend need a few books for our classes - she explained.
Trevor quickly took off his backpack and then pulled out a notebook from it, where he had all the titles written down. With it in his hand, he went to the counter and placed the notes in front of the grandma.
- Those were recommended by Professor Remedi, and those by Professor Net - he quickly turned some pages, to show her where everything was.
The woman sighed.
- My husband likes to go overboard with all the materials - she mumbled under her nose. - By the way, you are a new face here, aren't you? I didn't catch your name, mister?
- Trevor. Trevor West - he introduced himself.
- Oh. I heard about you. You are the one from the fourth, arent you? - she asked, causing a few other students, to again peel their eyes off the books, and notes, to this time look at him.
- Y-yes - he confirmed, as he noticed what was going on behind his back.
- That's quite an achievement - she said, and stood up, grabbing his notebook. - Follow me. I'm too old to be carrying this many books around.
Then she just walked off and vanished among the bookstands. Trevor had to rush, to go all the way around the counter, and join her. She didn't have any problems finding all the titles mentioned in his notes and just kept stacking them up in his hands. Eventually, he came out with a large pile, so heavy that he was barely able to hold it.
The librarian was following him, holding a few old, rolled-up maps and his notebook. She directed him more or less by touching his shoulders with one of the rolls.
He couldn't see through the pile that was in front of his eyes and had to peek by the side of the tower to see what was in front of him, despite being guided. He came around the counter again and placed the stack on the closest free table.
The grandma added the maps and his notebook to the pile, just as he managed to safely put down what he brought.
- You can read it all here, and leave after you are done for today. I'll keep them here for you, so you can continue later if you want. If you want to borrow then you can take only one - the older woman explained.
- Then we will be leaving them here - said Trevor, as he noticed Lena joining him out of nowhere, and already taking a seat by the table. - Thank you.
She didn't help with the books at all, instead stayed in the first half of the library, and patiently waited for him to do all the work.
- Very well - said the grandma and went back behind the counter, to vanish further among the bookstands.
Trevor sat down, grabbed his notebook, and quickly found a book about alchemy in the pail. Then started taking notes. Lena, again, just watched him, seemingly having no interest in reading nor in the studies at all.
