The first weekend of school finally came, and Trevor really was looking forward to it. With all the work he had to put through the last five days, he had no time to pursue meditation, or practice spells, which he was pretty much starving for.
He woke up all happy, took a shower, and then headed out straight to the cafeteria to have his breakfast, and then return to his room as soon as possible, so he could finally do the stuff he really wanted to.
He took a short peek at his overview and noticed an increase in his 'Control' statistic, which he had no idea where came from. There were additional five points compared to when he last checked, which was at the beginning of the week.
There was just too much to do in the school, so he simply didn't even have time to think about his breathing technique or the whole system at all. Instead, he focused all his efforts on the pursuit of knowledge.
On his way out he grabbed an orange from the fruit stand, to have it later as a snack and shoved it into his pocket.
The outside morning sun was shining, but it wasn't as hot as during the summer. Each day was slowly getting colder and colder. The winds also seemed stronger.
- Good morning - he suddenly heard from the side.
He turned around, as the voice sounded familiar, and discovered Lena in her casual schoolgirl uniform walking towards him.
- Hi. Are you going to get breakfast? - he asked, trying to put a smile o his face, but it didn't really work.
- No. I was looking for you.
- For me? - her words took him by surprise. - Why?
- I want to hang out - she said bluntly.
- You want to what? - he asked again as he just couldn't wrap his head around what she was trying to communicate to him.
- I want to hang out with you - she repeated herself.
- But I'm busy today.
- What are you gonna do?
- What? I'm... I'm gonna train.
- Good. Then I'll watch.
He opened his mouth to add something, but as he realized it wasn't gonna work on her anyway, he just gave up and shook his head. Then he resumed his walk back to his room, and Lena followed.
When he got inside, he took the orange from his pocket and threw it on the bed, then immediately mowed towards the door leading to the saferoom. He didn't notice, as her eyes got wide and moved rapidly, to focus on the fruit, moving through the air, and landing on the sheets.
She had a problem with peeling them off the orange and focusing back on him, as he went inside the safe space, but she still managed to follow him.
- I'm gonna practice the 'Shell' spell, so you don't have to worry about any danger - he informed her, as she closed the door behind
She rolled her eyes after his words.
- Even if you tried your best, you wouldn't be able to harm me - she replied and went to stand in the corner of the room.
He wasn't gonna argue with that because there could be a lot of truth to what she said. Instead, he just shrugged his shoulders, and focused the energy on the tips of his fingers, to then slowly start drawing the proper shape in the air.
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Blue light emitted by the tips of his fingers was leaving a trace behind, as he moved his hands, at least until the power slipped through his grasp, and the spell failed.
Trevor didn't give up though, and tried, and tried, and tried, and tried again, while Lena watched his moves. Around an hour passed, and the reserves of his power went dry, so he decided to take a break. He wiped the sweat on his forehead with the sleeve of his shirt.
- I'm out of energy. I'm gonna take a break - he informed her and then went outside.
She followed him like a puppy, but just as they entered the room, her eyes got immediately lured by the orange fruit laying on his bed. Trevor finally caught that and went to pick the thing up. Her eyes moved alongside it, like glued.
- Are you hungry? - he asked. - You should have eaten breakfast. Well... We can share it if you want.
She didn't respond, but her eyes remained fixed on the fruit.
Trevor sighed, seeing that, and started peeling the skin off, which he immediately threw into the trashcan in the corner of his room. Then he split the orange in half and gave her a piece.
She took it slowly from him without saying a word. He noticed as her pink tongue licked her red lips. For some reason, he had this strange feeling, like she was trying to fight with herself, and then suddenly she opened her mouth.
He noticed two sharp and extended fangs before she managed to sink them deep into the piece he gave her. She devoured the fruit, moaning as her small body relaxed and started shaking.
He watched the whole scene until she finished. With her eyes closed, she started licking her fingers and palms, tracing the marks left by the juice with her tongue. The moans continued throughout the whole process, until she suddenly opened her eyes, focused them on Trevor, and froze with her mouth still open, and tongue sticking out.
It was like somebody stopped her in time.
- W-what just happened? - asked the boy.
She slowly closed her mouth and hid her tongue. Then her hands dropped.
- I told you. I'm a black sheep in my family. I thought you would understand, as somebody who had no powers and had to go through a lot in your previous school. That's why I wanted to be friends - she said, and there was a hint of anger in her voice.
Her whole behavior changed. She was back to the more aggressive and confident self from when they met in the park. Even the way she spoke, was now different. The words were sharp like daggers that she wanted to use to stab him.
- How can I understand when you didn't explain anything to me? - he protested.
At first, she didn't answer, just looked at him with intent in her eyes. Trevor started thinking that she might just storm out of his room, and they probably won't talk ever again, but then she spoke again:
- I'm a fruit vampire - she confessed.
- F-fruit vampire? - he asked confused.
- Yes - she confirmed and then sighed. - A mutation of a regular vampire. My whole family drinks blood, but I don't. They usually get rid of those like me, when any of us gets born, but they couldn't do the same with me. My father hates me for that. I'm a disgrace to him. You can't tell anybody about this. If he finds out, you are dead.
- O-o-ok... My lips are s-sealed.
She sighed again, wiped her hands on her shirt, and went to sit on the edge of his bed.
- I guess I can stop pretending now - She shrugged her shoulders. - It was annoying, trying to behave like not me around you. I am who I am. I can't fight my nature.
- W-wait... Can we go back to the fruit vampire thing, and talk about that? - he asked, with his hands in the air, like he was trying to stop her from doing something.
She shrugged her shoulders again and then crossed her legs.
- I guess we could since now you know anyway...
- You said that members of your family are vampires?
- Yes. That's not a secret, but on the other hand, you are from the fourth so you might not know. All the members of the twelve great families are different or have some kind of special power. We are vampires.
- But you are a fruit vampire, and because of that, your father hates you? But why?
- That's not the only reason. There is more, but it's definitely a part of it. I'm a freak, just like you were.
- How do you even know that?
- Professor Winchester told me. He knows my secret. He is an old friend of my mother. Was... Since she is dead now. He knew that I'm gonna have problems with finding friends in school, so he proposed you because he said you might understand me.
- Ok... So, how does it work? Do you just jump on every fruit?
- No. I've been starving for days now. I can't really eat in public, because what I am is a freaking secret. I can't also just bring a ton of fruits to my room since people would notice.
- So you were not eating at all?
- No. I was eating. Just not enough. I grab a bite here and there, from time to time, when it's safe. I have good self-control. After all, I've been practicing my whole life.
- Well... I could help you. I could bring fruits here, and you could eat them if you want...
She glared at him for a moment, then nodded, and her eyes went to the piece of orange still in his hand. He immediately gave it to her, and she devoured it just like the previous one.
Just as she finished, somebody knocked on the door to Trevor's room. They both jumped, as it scarred them.
