418 had no choice to accept this fact as it stared them in their face: they were not a patient person. It had been about half an hour since Guide had finished their story and about more than ten since 418 had gathered their thoughts. The time left on the research still had just shy of 20 minutes and 418 was feeling bored once again. So to pass the time they asked a question that they just now thought about:
“So what is my other bandwidth point assigned to? I know I just assigned the second to that research table but what is the first one assigned to?”
“That would be what is known as core functions.”
“Core functions, huh. Sounds like something I’m better not messing with”
“Permit me a metaphor, if you will. The core of the dungeon is basically the brain and heart of humans combined into one thing. As such, the core is like those brain functions humans do automatically such as breathing. While yes, you can control them manually that takes a lot more work then just letting them run automatically. Of course, if you forgot to turn on said functions well, do you know how long humans can last without breathing?”
“If I remember right, the world I came from had some called the rule of 3 when it came to surviving without something. 3 weeks without food, 3 days without water and 3 minutes without air. Of course that is just the average and things can change under a variety of circumstances.”
“Yes, that is correct. In a similar vein dungeons lose themselves after the same amount of time a human can last without water.”
“3 days, huh. Maybe I can use it as a defense of some sort?” asked 418 in an inquisitive tone.”
“In a sense. While yes, your core is harder to find with those functions you cannot use most things inside your dungeons. WhileMonsters do still work but they are greatly diminished in ability.” Answered Guide.
They thought upon what they were told for a few minutes. But in the end, 418 decided that they wouldn't remove those functions unless the situation truly called for it. So 418 banished that thought for now and moved into something Guide just mentioned in that last answer: Monsters. Right they were a dungeon so they needed monsters otherwise, they were nothing but a poorly designed labyrinth. And monsters would make it easier to defend themselves against the threats of the world. But while initially 418 wanted to go crazy with summoning monsters they restrained themselves to summon one monster to make into a boss and maybe summon some fodder just in case. Regardless of the amount they were going to summon, they first needed to check the creature menu to see what they could summon. So 418 did just that.
Goblin
Cost 2 CP
Small green creature the size of a prepubescent child. They live a primitive and tribal life. They are individually weak but can be dangerous in large numbers. Can wield simple weaponry but do not spawn with any.
Kobold
Cost 10 CP
A reptile man-like creature around the height of 4 feet. Said to be the assistants of dragons they greedily hoard ores and other shiny material. Can wield metal weaponry and are created with worn iron equipment.
Unlocked due to a currently unknown title.
Skeleton
Cost 15 CP for 4
A pack of four skeletons from adult humans animated by magic. They can wield many weapons but do not spawn with any. Unlocked due to high concentrations of necrotic energies nearby
Stone Golem
Cost: 20 CP
A golem made of stone the size of a large adult male. Simple but powerful. Can not wield any weapons. Unlocked due to dungeon’s home region
418 was surprised about the fact there were 4 options available to them, they thought there would be less. the fact was truly interesting, they would need look into those later. First they needed to pick a monster. They would be staying away from the skeletons however, as they didn't want to be seen as a den of evil. Also that large amount of necrotic energy worried them. They would have to figure out what that was about later. While thinking about a monster to summon to make into a boss , they remembered something so they left the creature menu and as they saw the option, a horrible idea ran through 418’s mind.
“This is such a bad idea but…”
418 highlighted the option for the monster gacha. “If I don’t get a monster that is suitable for a boss, I can always summon a golem…” Is how 418 rationalized their decision. So they acted upon their idea and pressed the button for monster gacha

418 was bombarded by notification. Once the notification and light cleared,418 was face-to-face with a large black stone golem. It was about 8 feet tall with rough uneven stones in the approximation of a man. The words that ended up slipping from 418’s lips were…
“That is an mighty large golem.”
While 418 was admiring the summoned golem Guide chipped with a…
“You can see what it's stats and abilities are like in your creature.”

“That looks like a pretty solid skill set. Guide, I want to turn it into a boss. How do I do that?”
“First you must name the monster. Once it is named you can then upgrade it to boss in the tab labeled monster upgrades in the research tab. You can not upgrade it now because only named monsters must be upgraded.”
“Alright, then I grant this Golem the name rook after the piece of the same name. May you guard me Well.”
Unnamed Golem is now named Rook.
Then 418 hurriedly opened the research tab. Once inside the tab, they opened the tab that Guide specified and selected Rook. There, amongst the option to increase its stats and levels, they saw the option to change it into a boss for 20 RP. So they selected it and then, a few seconds later, a prompt appeared.
Would you like to spend 20 RP to upgrade Rook into a Boss monster?
[YES] | [NO]
Without hesitation, they hit yes. And then a new prompt appeared.
Please select a Room to assign the boss or select the option no room to turn into a wandering boss.
418 selected the room they consider a main hall of the Dungeon. Then both Rook and the room started glowing. They wonder what Rook would look like after their evolution. A second later, 418 saw many more new notifications.

Shortly after that Rook’s evolution was completed. The Room that became Rook’s boss arena does look different from before. Rook, on the other hand, looks completely different. He looks less like what one might think a golem looks like and more like a knight. Its rough and jagged edges were replaced by smooth stone that takes on an almost metal like quality and look. It also grew much taller. Before, it was about 8 feet tall. Now it's closing on 13. All and all, 418’s glad that their boss is pretty damn strong looking. And with Rook’s evolution complete, 418’s dungeon family grows one larger.

“Golems are a species born from creation. They are born from a core of magical energies placed inside various stones, woods, and metals. Golems are stronger than 10 men and with the durability to match. That makes them great for jobs that physically labor intensive or combat situations. Summoners that make use of golems so remember a very simple idea: be precise in their orders. Golems bear a high intelligence so they’ll understand your order but their low specs for wisdom mean that instead of doing the meaning of your order, they’ll do exactly your order to the letter. Remember to be precise with your orders and you should have no problems using Golems. -Liselen Arkfire, Summoners Guide to Monsters
