Chapter 86: A Night at the Orphanage

Yune looked at her phone and saw missed calls and texts from Mary and Jack. They were wondering where she went. But Yune didn't reply back to them. She shut off her phone and continued forward to find answers. And the answers she was looking for was at her original home. The orphanage. When she got there, it was run-down and abandoned. Lucky for her, that other companies that once tried to demolish it have given up on it. There was a rumor that it was cursed.

And to Yune's surprise, she did feel a Night Demon nearby. It must have been hiding inside the orphanage, but she was ready.

She transformed into her dark guardian self. But this time it was different. She felt a new power surge within her. Chains came out of the ground like tendrils and wrapped around her arms and legs. They bound her together, but Yune didn't resist. Then, the chains swirled around her and wrapped themselves into spherical cocoon. The chains bound her to the past. They bound her to her family. They bound her to the fact that she hasn't brought Mizu's murderer to justice. As long as she binds herself in chains, she will never be free. And then the chains shattered apart, and she was there in her full night guardian outfit. The moonlight gleamed over her armor, chains, and hook. However, her mask was nowhere to be found. Her eyes were still white with black scleras. But she no longer hid her face with a mask.

She wrapped the chains around her arms and walked forward in search for the proof she hoped not to find. She didn't remember the exact list of people, and she hoped that she was wrong. But once she found the list of suspects, then she could at least start from there. She just hoped that Jack's name wasn't on it. And if it was, she didn't quite know what to do.

But she didn't think about that for now. She just focused on the task at hand. Then, when she looked around the abandoned orphanage, she began to imagine the children running around. She imagined the three of them together. She looked at a nearby window. It was cracked, but she remembered how Mizu tricked them on the first day. The whole experience felt nostalgic. But that feeling would fade away.

A Night Demon was there watching from the shadows. It's yellow eyes watched as Yune searched the building. She didn't remember where she put the list, but it had to be around somewhere. She knew that she didn't take it with her.

Yune sighed while spinning her hook around her around.

"Alright. Why don't you just come out," Yune said as she looked at a corner.

The Night Demon came out of that corner with a look of surprise. "How did you know I was there?" it asked. The creature looked like a big, black frog with fangs. It had two bulging, yellow eyes.

"Your eyes glow in the dark. Well, at least you can talk. Since you can, I would recommend you leave," Yune said.

"I suppose I will. You're not a Light Guardian, but I can sense you are still strong. I prefer my children to be weak and small. Much more fun to watch them squeal," the creature said as it backed away.

But when Yune heard that, she quickly threw in her hook without thinking. The creature jumped out of the way and towards Yune.

"Fool. Now, that you threw your weapon, you are defenseless. Puny and weak. I'll have much fu-," the creature said right before it got crushed by a series of chains. It wrapped around the monster and strangled it.

"I don't have time for this," Yune said. With the flick her wrist, the chains tightened and sharpened themselves. In a mere second, the creature was struggling to break free to being cut into pieces. Then, when each piece fell to the ground, the pieces vanished into a black smoke leaving behind a black coin. Yune grabbed it and held onto it.

Then, Yune visited the kitchen. This was the last place that she saw Mizu before her death. She was eating a bar of chocolate. Then, Yune went over to their room. There were plenty of beds for the other children when they were around, but the ones that they used with on one side of the wall in the middle. The whole place was filled with dust and cobwebs. There were a couple of mice that made their home on one of the other beds.

Yune looked through her table and found no list. Then, she checked the one that belonged to Eli. Nothing.

Then, Yune checked Mizu's table and there it was. Dusty and old, but still eligible.

The list contained:

-Ava Reid

-Mia Reid

-Venomion Venomion

-Mirey Jyle

-Annie Weldsfield

-Cainus Jebel

-Alice Jiren

-Jacqueline Unique

-Bojo Jowba

And when she finished reading that list, her fears came true. It was true. Jacqueline Unique. Jack's full name. Yune now knew that out of all of the possible Light Guardians nearby that night, Jack was there.

Yune began to feel angry, but she kept herself in control. She wanted Jack to say it herself. She needed Jack to confess.

Yune walked home thinking about what she should do. But her mind was only focused on one thing. Revenge.
