Chapter 6: The New Girls

Chapter 6: The New Girls

The night sky was teeming with stars. The lights of the city sparkled with hope. But on one rooftop, a battle was taking place.

On the high rise of a city skyscraper, a monster appeared looking down at the people. An amorphous blob of malice. It carried a golden crown and grew many hands around it. Like a miniature fortress, it was impenetrable. It's one eye stared at three girls. Three Light Guardians there to defeat this raging monster.

Anne Hill, the energetic middle schooler. She had short brown hair and was an active member of the karate club at her school. She wore a white and light blue dress with metal gauntlets and boots. She loved to help people in any situation.

Kira Lin, another middle schooler, but this one was more serious in her demeanor. However, she was more reserved and quiet. She had short black hair and looked very intimidating to people who didn't know her. This girl wore a green costume and was able to create an assortment of knives.

Nina Shine, a senior in high school. She had long brown hair and was considered to be the leader of this group of Light Guardians. She carried two katanas and wore a purple outfit. She felt a responsibility on her shoulders to protect people. She was smart and calculating, but was never good at making friends. However, when she became a Light Guardian, she met the other two as joined forces together. Her strategies and leadership usually let them win any encounter.

Together, these three girls protected Janken City from the Night Demons.

As the battle raged on, the three began to be pushed back. None of them were able to get past the onslaught of arms. No matter how many they cut down, the creature just snorts and makes more. The arms moved like tentacles.

Nina and Anne stood their ground in front, while Kira was behind.

Kira kept trying to throw knives at the demon, but it would swat them away. Each of them landed on the ground near it.

Anne kept punching and kicking the elongated arms trying to get closer. But with each step forward, the demon would push her two steps backs.

Nina kept slicing the arms as she stood her ground. Her relentless swings gave no chance for the arms to reach her or her comrades behind.

"This Night Demon just isn't getting tired," Anne commented, "So, this is the creature that's been getting people to fall off this building, huh. Just a huge fat glob of a pig. How many arms can that thing grow?"

"Probably infinite," Nina said.

"Hmm-hmm," Kira said while nodding and throwing more knives.

"Well, leader, how much more?" Anne asked.

Nina looked at the surrounding bundles of knives around the demon and said, "Just a few more."

Kira kept throwing more knives and as soon as one last knife touched the ground, Nina quickly shouted, "Now!"

As soon as she gave the signal, Anne grabbed two of the arms while dodging the others.

She smiled and said, "This is going to come as a shock!"

Sparks began to fly around her gauntlet and in a quick moment, electricity traveled through the arms and towards the main body. It's crown began to shake as all of the lightning would become attracted towards it. It began to fry the creature alive. It was stunned.

But that wasn't all. The knives that fell around the hideous creature grew into grass and then sharp spikes of wood. They quickly grew out of the ground towards the creature's body. While the creature was frozen by the electrifying shock, the spikes pierced around the creature at every point around it's body. It gave out a bellowing cry.

While the Night Demon was stuck with the spikes and fried with electricity, Nina sprinted in to give the finishing blow. She held her two katanas tightly and prepared to stab the creature in it's one big, bloodshot eye.

But before Nina reached the creature, she noticed shadows walking amidst them. And without warning a chain quickly appeared in front of her stopping her in her tracks.

"What the-?" Nina gave out in a surprise.

But in a flash, a flaming blade pierced through the monster from behind through the eye. It's flame began to melt the creature around it's wound. The next second, the sword was taken straight out.

The Night Demon gave out one more moan before falling to death.

The monster's black coin dropped from it as the being began to evaporate into nothing.

Ding!

"Ooh. What's this?" A girl quickly remarked and without giving any warning grabbed the coin.

The wooden spikes crumbled away. The creature faded into nothing.

In front of the great moon, three girls stood in front. They were all hooded and darkness covered them. Their black hoods and capes covered their costumes and faces. They could only see the glow of their eyes. Purple, white, and red in that order.

The girl holding the black coin sat in a squatting position. She balanced the coin on a large red claw. There five claws on each of her hand the size of an arm.

One of them retracted the chain back to her. The chain disappeared into her forearm. She stood still with an upright posture.

And the one that stabbed the creature was big. She looked almost like a wrestler on TV. This girl held a burning machete, but the fire wouldn't illuminate them.

Anne and Kira ran over next to Nina.

"Who are they?" Anne asked.

But Nina paid no heed to her friends. She focused on the three girls, who she thought must have been Light Guardians.

"Ahh. Now I remember. These coins can be exchanged by the shopkeep," the girl with purple eyes said while spinning the coin around her claw.

Nina gave a solemn look at the three. Anne and Kira stood by her.

"They look dangerous, leader," Kira said.

Nina nodded her head.

"Hey, guardians! That coin belongs to us. We have been the ones fighting it," Nina shouted.

The dark girls looked back at her.

"We killed it. This coin belongs to us," the girl with white eyes said.

Nina recognized that voice and line, before, but couldn't put her finger on it.

Anne yelled, "You didn't help at all! We would have killed it if you hadn't butted in!"

"Who are you?," Kira asked calmly.

"Who are we?" the girl with red eyes said in a mocking manner. The three looked at each other and each one thought to themselves that they didn't really know either. They couldn't just say they were zombies brought back by darkness and essentially the same kind of monster as a Night Demon.

"We... are... Light Guardians like you," the red-eyed girl said unconvincingly.

The purple-eyed girl facepalmed herself and said, "It doesn't matter who we are. What matters it that we killed the Night Demon. So the spoils go to us."

She stood up showing off the black coin.

Anne was about to step up, but Nina stopped her.

"Since I don't recognize you, you guys must be new, here," Nina said, "This city is big enough for other Light Guardians, but we have all decided to work together. You shouldn't go provoking others in this city. It will only cause trouble for you."

"Is that a threat?" the white-eyed girl said.

"Yes," Nina said.

The purple-eyed girl laughed and said, "What a terribly boring threat. I've been threatened by much bigger people than you. Why don't you three peasants just go somewhere else?"

"Peasant?" Anne asked in confusion.

"You are peasants, as far as we're concerned."

Nina took a step forward. "You three are making a mistake by crossing us. We'll let you go off this time as a warning. But next time, we won't be so kind," Nina threatened.

"Ooh. I'm so scared," the red-eyed girl said and then chuckled to herself.

The white-eyed girl looked at Nina's katanas, and was reminded of her own friend. But that girl wasn't her. She shook her head and said, "Then, I will say the same to you. Stay our of our way."

Then, their glowing eyes faded to black. They looking like nothing but shadows in front of the moon. Then, in a brief flash, a fire broke out between the two teams of Guardians. And the next second, the fire dissipated leaving no trace of the three shadowy girls.

"Looks like we're going to have some rivals," Kira said.

Nina nodded.

"Aww, man. Why can't we all just get along. We're all fighting the same enemy. These Night Demons," Anne said disappointingly.

"We're all fighting the same monsters, but really, we all fight for ourselves in the end. When it comes down to it, we're all rivals," Nina said, but then smiled and finished, "Lucky for us that we're not like that. We have each other."

The three smiled together as their friendship and bonds held them tightly

But each one of them felt a chill in the air. A feeling of unease that couldn't be shaken off. Each felt something. Felt that something was changing in their world. Felt a dark presence similar to the feeling of Night Demons, but not quite that.
