Chapter 126: The Storm Calls

Chapter 126: The Storm Calls

Heavy wind blew away trees and shook cars. There seemed to be a couple of tornadoes pass by empty city streets carrying old newspapers and trash. Rain fell with the speed of bullets. Some areas even had hail. The clouds above blocked any sign of the sun as they hovered ominously over the city. Reports of the storm's damage had seemed to have been greatly under exaggerated by the media in other cities. However, the storm in Janken City had been far more destructive without any known reason as to why. And the storm didn't seem to be passing any time soon. It was like it was now just hovering in circles around the one city.

Fortunately, everybody took shelter waiting for the storm to pass.

The only ones who were out were guardians patrolling the area not looking for Night Demons, but to help protect and guide anybody unlucky enough to be outside. Yune, Jack, and Mary felt obligated to help along with Nina and Anne. Meanwhile, Mirey remained guarding her bakery alongside Venomion and Cainus who were paid to be there. Mirey even hoped that the storm would destroy her rival in the process of this storm's rampage.

If they did find a Night Demon, they did nothing but hide and take shelter, as well. They all felt fear from the storms above without knowing the reason why. Mosaic tried to comfort Schatten while they took shelter in an old, abandoned shop, but the dog continued to whimper. However, Tasha stayed close atop of Jack's shoulder feeling it would be safer with those three girls than at home alone, although not even she knew why. But she did feel a sense of terror as she looked up at the clouds. For a second, she thought that she saw a slithering, large shadow move among the clouds. There even seemed to be a small glow of an eye that pierced through the clouds, but it vanished in a second. She didn't think much of it, though. Tasha just thought it must have been a darker cloud than the rest.

Bolts of lightning struck down to the floor and buildings. Cars and trucks were being flung around with the high winds crashing into nearby stores. Some of the houses began to be uplifted.

Yune, Jack, and Mary tried to minimize the damage, but there was just so much chaos. Anne and Nina stayed near one of the gyms that sheltered many normal men, women, and children. Even their own parents who would be worried for their safety, but by giving the shopkeeper a black coin, they could keep them calm with an illusion of their children by their side.

But this storm didn't let up. It just kept escalating. More lightning began to strike with more power as time passed.

Eli watched the storm from inside her hospital room. She hadn't seen Yune in a long time, and worried for her safety. As she watched, many doctors and nurses rushed and ran around the hospital.

A photographer went outside to take a video of the storm for his social media page. He was afraid, but felt like it would get plenty of views. And rather than taking the video inside, he felt it would be more authentic to take it out there. He wasn't too far from home, anyways.

However, as he was filming, a gust of wind flung a trailer rolling down towards him. As soon as she saw it, he was frozen in fear. It would have hit him, if the three girls hadn't been there. They all jumped in to save him, even though just one of them could have done it. Yune threw in her hook and chains, and held the trailer back. Jack jumped in between the trailer and the man. And Mary rushed in and carried him away.

Then, they let the trailer go and it began to fly around once more. The three girls escorted him to the nearest shelter.

During this, Mary scolded the man for being out there while he was in her arms.

"What the hell is wrong with you, moron!?" Mary yelled to his dissatisfaction.

However, while he was held in her arms, a strange blue light appeared glowing within his body. All three of them saw this. Yet, he didn't feel anything, but the next thing they knew there was nothing left except his clothes and phone. His entire body vanished without a trace.

"What the-!?" Mary exclaimed as the clothes she carried began to fly away. They landed on a rooftop and tried to make sense of it. They all saw it, but had no idea how that happened. There was no explanation for it. Each one of them expressed shock. All Mary could think of was that it was some kind of rapture.

However, it didn't just happen to him.

The shelter that Anne and Nina protected had the same problem. The two girls looked inside and the next thing they knew, everybody inside vanished with the exception of their clothes and the fake Anne and Nina that the shopkeeper created. Both of the girls had to rub their eyes and make sure that what they were seeing was real.

In the hospital, as one of the nurses began to move Eli to a more secure area pushing her bed and medical equipment. It took a couple of seconds after Eli's bed wasn't moving, but then Eli realized that the nurse had disappeared.

As people around the city began to vanish one-by-one, instead of screams or panic, there was only the sound of rain and wind. It only seemed to affect regular people. Guardians and Night Demons were unaffected.

Another lightning strike struck into the side of a skyscrapers. But instead of them falling, the wind began to pick them up. The tornadoes spread themselves out more violently. The storm started to suddenly roar violently. But it didn't sound like thunder. The sound made everybody who was still around look up. Guardians and Night Demons alike.

And when all of the guardians and monsters looked up at the sky, the clouds twisted and contorted into themselves.

They began to see a slowly growing swarm of gargantuan, black hands emerging out of the dark clouds as reality shifted away from them. And each of those hands had a bulging eye on their palms. Their eyes glowed bright blue and moved erratically.

A looming sense of dread came over Janken City. A sense of terror. The guardians sensed it. The Night Demons felt it. And any remaining humans knew it. There was no need for powers to see that death was just above them. Without warning. Without reason. A force of nature that had the potential to consume universes appeared before them all.
