Chapter 69: The Spider that Stalks the Mouse

Mizuchi kept running away. She was faster than those other two. But Yune and Eli's endurance was a different thing. They kept going.

"Stop following me! You don't owe me anything. Just let me go!" Mizuchi yelled back at them.

Then, she turned a corner at one of the streets. It was crowded and became hard to move around, but she knew that she could hide better. As the other two girls didn't get to the corner yet, Mizuchi went into an alleyway and hide behind a dumpster. She peeked out and saw the two run past the alleyway.

Mizuchi sighed with relief.

"Good. Looks like I'm safe. Now, got to figure out where the train is," Mizu said as she began to walk away deeper into the alley. But the alleyways were the most dangerous parts. The only place of darkness within these busy cities. Crawling on the side of the building, there was a creature looking down at the little girl. As Mizu was walking away, she felt a slimy drop touch her shoulders.

"Yeek! Disgusting," she exclaimed as she wiped it off. As the slime kept dropping from above, she looked up in disgust. Then, that disgust turned immediately into fear. Her whole body froze like she was an antelope looking straight at the oncoming headlights.

There it was. A creature that eerily looked like a mixture of a werewolf and a spider. It had eight eyes staring back at the girl. It's body was composed of black fur. It had the jaw of a wolf, but used human teeth. It's elongated arms and legs crawled along the surface of the wall. It's abdomen looked almost human.

It muttered one word and growled.

"Wolfspinne."

It's teeth seethed out more saliva looking at it's delightful meal.

Mizuchi could only shake her body, but she wouldn't move. Her body froze up. She began to piss in her underwear and it dripped down along her legs to her feet. She thought that it must have been a nightmare.

Then, with a sudden burst of adrenaline, she screamed.

The outside crowds heard them, but didn't care and kept to themselves. However, when Yune and Eli heard those screams, they knew that Mizuchi was in trouble.

As the monster was about to chomp down on it's meal, Mizuchi began to run away. Once, the creature saw that it's meal was going to give chase, it wanted to play along. It felt the need for a good chase before eating.

Mizu kept running amidst the dark alleyways. The creature blocked her from going anywhere she wanted. Her body began to weaken and grow cold as the creature's saliva began to drop on her back. But Mizuchi wouldn't give up. She had to escape. She had to find her mother. But then all that hope drained away. She turned a corner and reached a dead end. And the creature blocked any way back.

"Wolfspinne," it muttered once more with a smile. Now, that the chase was over, it planned to dine into the girl's intenstines first. The creature placed one claw one Mizuch's stomach. With just a little bit of pressure, it tore a hold in her clothes. The creature enjoyed playing with it's food, but was getting hungry. It wanted the girl to feel every bite and rip before it was finished. As it was about to put a little more pressure into the girl's stomach, it would have pierced right through.

Mizuchi closed her eyes hoping that it was still just a dream. That she would wake up anywhere but here. It didn't matter if she woke up in her mother's arms or in an orphanage. Just anywhere. At the very least, if it wasn't a dream, then she hoped it would be quick and painless.

But neither came. She opened her eyes and the creature had been tangled in a web of chains.

Chains crushed together the monster's arms. There was a hook lodged into the creature's abdomen.

"Good. We made it in time," a girl said holding the chains together. It was that girl back at the orphanage. She remembered her name. Yune. But she was different. She was wearing white armor and a flashy dress. Her hair glared with the moonlight.

"Good job, Yune. Now, let's finish it," another girl said as she spun in circles around the monster holding a yellow katana. She wore a yellow dress and was just as flashy. Eli.

Mizuchi has no idea what was going on. She thought that maybe it was all a dream. She pinched herself to try and wake her, but it did nothing. It was real. All of it.

Yune pulled the creature away from Mizuchi.

"Wolfspinne," it muttered once more as it used whatever strength it had to break free from the chains. But the hook was still stuck inside of him. Yune used it to pull it further away from the little girl.

Both of them were far different. They both acted confidently and as a team. While Yune kept a distance and made sure it wasn't near Mizuchi, Eli kept making the creature focus it's attention to her. She kept spinning around her katana. Then, she created a second one and was even faster than before. Sparks of electricity shot around the blades and into Wolfspinne's body. Eli's hair sparkled like a sun within the darkness.

Eli was fast and could easily dodge any of their attacks. And Yune was cautionary and support. She made sure that if Eli was about to get hit, she would yank the creature or hit the creature with a chain. She kept the creature grounded in one place by wrapping her chains around it's legs.

They both smiled confidently.

"Don't worry, Mizuchi. We'll get you out of this safely," Eli said.

Mizuchi looked for a way to run away, but the only way out was through them and she knew that was a terrible idea. All she could do was watch in the corner.

Then, she wondered aloud, "What are you people?"

And then from one moment looking at them with such strangeness, she began to see them like super heroes. They were heroes. And they were super. She looked at them with amazement and awe.

The two heroes fought the creature with brilliance and valor.

As the two girls concentrated on taking down their foe, another creature decided to take this as an opportunity.

Not a creature of darkness. But of light.

A white mouse came crawling along the walls behind Mizuchi.

It landed on Mizuchi's shoulder and she shrieked in response. The mouse landed on the floor, but slowly moved towards her. It felt calm.

And to Mizuchi's surprise, it began to talk.

"They are Light Guardians. Heroes that protect the world from creatures of darkness," the mouse spoke in a young boy's voice.

"Woah. What the hell? A talking mouse," Mizuchi replied.

"You are watching a giant spider-monster fight against two Light Guardian girls. And yet you are surprised by a talking white mouse. I'll never understand humans," he replied.

"Light Guardian? What is that?"

"A hero. Didn't you ever wish that you could become a hero - a real super hero. You would no longer be weak. You could do whatever you wanted. Those two became Light Guardians years ago. However, they saw me as a cat. Not that it matters which form I take. They chose to become guardians initially to protect the orphanage from a Night Demon - a monster which you are seeing now. A creature attacked their headmaster and I came in to give them the power to save her. Now, they use those powers to protect the good people of this world as they are right now. I gave Eli the power to create electrical katanas. While, Yune got a hook and an arsenal of chains. I can give you a power, too."

But Mizuchi was skeptical of the creature. Everything seemed so strange. And the offer seemed too good to be true. She lived on the streets for some time to know that there was always a catch. Nonetheless, she never knew anything about magical powers and creatures being real before.

"What power would I get?"

"I don't know. Your power is a representation of your own soul. It can even change based upon your own life experiences."

"So, it would be a mystery. It could be something as weak as being able to talk to fish."

"I wouldn't underestimate any power created from within. For example, your ability to talk to fish can evolve into something more. You may be able to learn to call upon ancient slumbering beings hidden beneath the oceans."

"Do those actually exist? Does Cthulu exist, too?" Mizuchi asked like a kid. The white mouse ignored that irrelevant question. She became fascinated with the idea of becoming her own hero. But still, she wasn't sure what the mouse wanted in return. There was always a catch, she thought.

However, she didn't have much time to think.

In an instant, the tide of battle seemed to turn against the two girls. Wolfspinne began to spray out webs from it's mouth. It quickly stuck itself to Eli's blades and body. She began to slow as a result and get her feet stuck on the walls and floor. She had to take extra efforts to move. Meanwhile, the webs glued the chains together whenever they would come near the creature. The chains began to rattle without any control as Yune wasn't able to properly move her chains as she wanted to. The creature used it's strength to break free of whatever chains held it and yanked the hook out of it's abdomen. It started to attack both Eli and Yune. Both of them were now in a bind as they defended themselves.

"You should choose quickly. Looks like they won't be able to fight this one themselves," the mouse said, "They need you more than they realize."

Mizuchi started to become worried. Those two risked their lives to protect her. They tried to make her feel comfortable at the orphanage. They were good people, and she didn't want them to get hurt any more.

"Alright. I'll do it. I'll become a Light Guardian," she said and in an instant, her body began to tremble. A bright light enveloped her. It was strong, but she felt even stronger. Wolfspinne noticed the bright light and wondered what it was. Yune and Eli saw the light as well. It was coming from Mizuchi's direction.

The white mouse sat on her shoulder. She stood up with a new outfit. Mizuchi wore a light-red and pink dress. She didn't appear to be holding any weapon or armament. But she stood up with confidence believing that she had become a super hero.
