The Book of Levi
8. Another Day

8. Another Day

Levi woke up in a cold sweat, nausea overwhelmed him along with the spinning

of the room. He rushed out of bed and to the bathroom and began vomiting. As he sat on

the bathroom floor waiting for the next wave of nausea to hit him, he caught a whiff of

himself. Levi reeked of B.O. and liquor, so much that it almost made him throw up again.

‘I’m definitely overdue for this’ he thought before hopping into the shower. After all

those years with those ‘people’ he hated showering, he felt too exposed.

When he got out and checked the time on his alarm clock, it was almost noon but

what really caught his attention was the date. He had slept through a whole day and he

had to work today. “Dammit” Levi muttered to the walls. Since there was still time

before he had to be in, it was time to go back to sleep. He already knew it was going to be

a long week.

Levi’s alarm clock rang out, he slammed his fist down to shut it up. Then hooped

up, threw on his boots, hat and mask then began his trek to work. ‘I wonder if she’ll stop

others just opened the door for them to screw him over.

“This cold is so annoying” he grumbled. He was almost there now. Levi would

buy a car if he had any of the proper info though, but it’s kind of hard to do without a

social security number or any other of the proper paperwork. When it came to the money,

he had more than enough. The last thing he wanted was to get pulled over and not have a

license. It would raise too many questions that would draw him into the spotlight again.

After getting into the warehouse and making his way to the pallet building area where he

was going to spend the next 12 hours working, Alex stopped him. “Hey Levi, can I talk to

you for a minute.”

“What’s up? I’m trying to get started, the sooner I’m done, the sooner I go home”

“I know, but there’s gonna be a bit of a change with you today.”

“What kind of change?”

“You’re getting a trainee.”

“The hell, why me?”

“Cause you’re my best worker and Jake just quit, she was supposed to workday

shift. Now we have to move her to nights though.”

Levi stared at him with indifference that said, ‘Why are you making this my

problem?’

Alex sighed and said “Look, I don’t like this anymore than you do. But it’s what’s

best considering the circumstances and I know with you looking out for her then she’ll do

great here.”
