The Book of Levi
24. Old Wounds

24. Old Wounds

Levi shot awake and looked around in a daze, Alice had been snoring and it woke him up. He shot her a quick smile, admiring how cute she looked as she laid asleep on the couch next to him. He laid back down and closed his eyes.

“Rise and shine, sleeping beauty.” A man's voice whispered.

The voice came from behind Levi. Levi almost jumped out of his skin as he hopped off the couch to his feet and came face to face with the stranger and was shocked. It was Tyrese, the giant was towering over him with an unnerving smile across his face. Levi had about a hundred questions and his confusion was written all over his face. He even questioned if what was happening was real.

Tyrese whispered “Now I bet you have a load of questions to ask, but why don’t we step outside. That way we don’t wake the lady.” He pointed at Alice who was still fast asleep.

Tyrese began to move towards the door and Levi moved towards a kitchen knife that was laying on the counter in the kitchen.

Tyrese put his hand on Levi’s shoulder and squeezed, Levi felt like his shoulder was going to pop from the force being exerted onto it. “Now I wouldn’t do that, or I’ll have to hurt the young miss here and we both don’t want that to happen. So come quietly…Leviathan.”

Levi’s heart began to feel like it was going to burst out of his chest, and he felt sick. “How do you know that name?” Levi’s tone trembled with fear. Everyone who knew what he was should be dead. So how did Tyrese know?

Tyrese pulled Levi toward the door and the 2 quietly closed it behind them, being sure not to wake Alice.

Outside it was pitch black, the moon was hidden behind a sea of clouds. Not a single star was able to be seen. Tyrese continued to pull Levi towards an unmarked black sedan. But he broke from Tyrese’s grasp. Tyrese began to grow annoyed and said, “What now?”

“How do you know who I am?” Levi questioned him.

“Ah that’s because our leader came from you, we’ve seen how you can create the next step in evolution. He is the proof; we follow him and his dream.” Tyrese spoke with such assurance and because of this Levi knew that this man was another cultist and not one of those self-proclaimed ‘Templars’.

“You all should’ve stayed buried in that god forsaken church, you and those flame wielding psychos.” The fear began to wear off and was being replaced with rage.

“We are everywhere, more now than ever thanks to the brother that you’ve chosen. No, we know that our dream is within reach, for the first time since the last crusade we have another Leviathan. You run from us, but we exist to preserve you and your gift.”

Levi put his hands up, he had spent years listening to these absurd cultists and their beliefs. He wasn’t about to waste another minute listening to them again.

Tyrese’s booming laugh echoed through the streets. “You really want to fight me? Leviathan or not, we both know you don’t stand a chance against me.”

Levi put all his weight into a punch directly into the giants' chin, Tyrese stumbled. “Damn kid, you throw one hell of a punch. Where was all this strength earlier when I was covering your ass.”

Tyrese threw a punch towards Levi’s head; he narrowly slipped beneath it and landed a series of hits to Tyrese’s abdomen. He knocked the wind out of Tyrese who had become hunched over holding his stomach. Levi went for a finishing kick, but Tyrese caught his leg and slammed Levi into the side of the black sedan, which put a Levi sized dent into the car and set off the alarm. He then released Levi, who fell limp onto the road and had been knocked unconscious. Tyrese then reached into his pocket and took out the key and turned off the car alarm. He then picked up Levi and popped the trunk

“What are you doing!”

The scream startled Tyrese, he turned around and saw Alice standing across the street with a gun pointed towards him.

“Woah there, let’s take a breather. This isn’t what it looks like.” Tyrese’s confident demeanor had done a complete transformation as fear overtook him. He had always been a giant among everyone he’d been around and was someone who had never experienced the true fear of being in a situation where you could lose your life.

“I don’t care what it looks like, you’re going to put him down or I’m putting a bullet through your head.” Alice had been mentally preparing for a situation where someone was threatening her because she had vowed never to be a victim ever again. This had gone on for so long that she felt calm and clear in this moment, that’s when she realized that in her head whenever she made these situations, she had made herself feel helpless. Now in reality, she was the one in full control.

“C’mon and put that thing away, what if you accidentally hit your boyfriend here.” Tyrese was trying to get the situation back into where he had control so he could throw Levi into the trunk and speed off.

Alice smiled “I’m confident in my aim.” She squeezed the trigger, and a shot rang out hitting Tyrese in the right side of his chest.

Tyrese yelped in agony as he dropped Levi into the trunk and slammed it shut. He sucked and rushed towards the driver door of the car, but not before Alice let out 2 more shots and began to move in closer. Both shots graze Tyrese’s back, but he made it inside the door and put the keys in the ignition. Another shot was let loose into the car window, narrowly missing his head. Tyrese then slammed on the gas and sped off down the street.

Alice tried to chase them and shot 2 more times, shattering the rear windshield. It wasn’t enough and Tyrese had made his escape with Levi. Dread took Alice’s mind and she feared about what was going to happen to Levi.

Alice rushed inside, her heart racing and her breathing was sporadic. She grabbed her phone and dialed 911.

“This is 911, how can we help you?” The woman’s voice was so casual.

“Help, my friend was just abducted, and I think he’s going to kill him.” Tears were pouring down Alice’s face and her voice was shaken.

“Alright, ma’am, I need you to calm down and tell me exactly what happened. Details about your friend, the abductor, and the vehicle they were taken in.”

Alice went into vivid detail, explained every second and everything she saw and knew about the 2.

“Okay, we already have officers on the way to you and out looking for the vehicle. Just wait inside and lock the doors in case he comes back or there’s more of them.” The operator did her best to hide the concern in her voice.
