The Book of Levi
17. The Cage

17. The Cage

Levi woke up in a dark room, the feeling of cold metal beneath him, his mind was

foggy from whatever they had injected him with. His eyes began to adjust to the darkness

around him and the effects of the drugs wore off. He could make out the silhouettes of the

bars around him, Levi reached out to touch them and cut his hand. The cage was covered

in razor sharp spikes. He felt around for the door, enduring the damage being inflicted to

his hands until he found it.

Levi gritted his teeth and gripped the door, shaking it as hard as he could. ‘I have

to get out of here.’ He thought to himself. His heart began to race as he heard footsteps

echoing somewhere in the dark. Levi released his grip on the door. Blood dripping down

his hands, the pain was the least of his worries as the footsteps began to grow closer. By

the sound he could tell there was more than one person. A door opened and the room

flooded with light, it blinded Levi.

“You’re awake, Leviathan.” A grizzled voice said.

“Where am I?” Levi shouted back, his hand covering the light. He could make out

3 shadowy figures.

“A safe place. A place where you will be appreciated for who you are. Brother

Ellis, go get the others.” The grizzled voice spoke with authority and 1 of the dark figures

disappeared. “Your hands, how are they?”

Levi looked down at his hands, the light was no longer blinding and he could see

somewhat well. At least better than he did in the dark. His hands were covered in blood

that was now dried, but the cuts had all but completely healed. “What about them?” Levi

shouted back.

“They’re better aren’t they, so it’s true…”

“Should they not be?”

The grizzled voice laughed at him. “You really don’t understand anything, do

you?”

This guy was really starting to piss Levi off and he began shaking the cage again.

“Let me out of here and explain it to me then!”

Now both the men began laughing at him. “In time we’ll let you out and tell you

everything, first why don’t you tell me what you know.”

Levi remained silent.

“C’mon, speak up! We’ve been waiting a long time for you to be with us.”

Levi decided there was no harm in telling him what little he knew. “I remember

being lost, then waking up in pain. Then nothing for a while, then the hospital. That’s it.”

The dark figures were silent for a minute then they started whispering to each

other.

“I told you what I know, your turn. Why am I here, where am I, and who are you

people?” Levi asked, growing evermore angry and confused.

The man sighed “You’re here to bring about a much a needed change in our

world-”

Levi interrupted the man “Cool, but I meant that question more literally. Why did

you people take me and where is this place.”

“You are in the basement in the church of the Leviathan, and you are here because

you are the Leviathan, delivered to us from God himself and we are your army, your

worshippers.”

There was more silence and finally Levi spoke. “Alright, well I might not know

much, but I know enough to know you guys are completely insane.”

The man became infuriated at that comment. “In time you will know what say is

true! We will make you understand what you are.”

More footsteps and lights began to flood the room. Dozens of people flooded into

the room. All of them whispering with excitement to each other. Finally, a switch was

flipped, and lights filled the room.

Everyone there was wearing an all-black suit and a red bandana with a black rose

on it. The room had a hard wood floor with a metal table in the center and dozens of

chairs surrounded the table. The man who had been speaking to Levi moved to the center

of the room as the others filled the seats. “Brothers and sisters, the time has come for us

to bring about change to this corrupt world!”

His words were met with a thunderous applause. “God has gifted us the catalyst to

create this change. The immortal being, the Leviathan!”

As the man spoke one of the cultists approached Levi with a gun in hand. “What

the fu-“ Levi’s words were cut short as he was shot in the stomach, but it wasn’t a bullet,

it was a dart. His body felt heavy and he collapsed. 2 more cultists approached the cage,

unlocked it and carried Levi out to the table in the middle of the room.

As they carried him, Levi could make out dark stains all over the floor and

symbols in white paint circling the table. The cultists laid Levi out on the table and

strapped him down. Levi could barely move his head, his vision became blurry, and he

felt feverish.

The man who Levi had come to understand as they’re leader had a white rose on

his mask instead of a black one like the others. He once again spoke to the room and

received more applause, but Levi’s ears were ringing too loud for him to make out the

words being said. The cult leader brought a table alongside Levi, it was cluttered with

metal tools of all kinds such as scalpels and pliers. It was getting harder for Levi to keep

his eyes open with each passing second. The man picked up a blade and waived it around

to the others.

“Now witness the healing power of the Leviathan!”, he then plunged the blade

into Levi’s stomach.

Levi screamed in pain, his screams covered by the deafening applause of the

cultists and the man picked up another blade, the cultists clapping and cheering in the

background. He slammed it into Levi’s arm. Then again, this time into his leg. He did it

again and again. Finally, Levi fell unconscious and his screaming stopped, but the

applause continued.

The man withdrew the blades from Levi’s body and the room went silent as blood

sprayed from Levi’s body. “Now wait and see. Brothers and sisters, you will bear witness

to a miracle tonight.”

Hours passed as all the cultists waited in silence. Finally, a gasp erupted from the

middle of the room. Levi struggled to breathe and fought against the restraints holding

him as blood dripped from him. “Bear witness!” The leader shouted. The cultists got up

and crowded around Levi on the table, the leader showed off Levi’s wounds which had

already begun to close. Some cheered and others began to cry out of joy. “We will study

the Leviathan and soon each of us will have the same abilities, no fear of hunger, thirst or

even death. We will harvest this for ourselves. Then establish a new world order under

the Leviathan. No more poverty or war, we will bring peace!”

Levi’s panic continued to consume him as he watched these delusional

bloodthirsty people revel in his misery. He pushed through the pain and struggled against

the restraints.

“Calm yourself, Leviathan. You are among your family.” The leader’s words only

pushed Levi further over the edge.

He broke the restraint holding his right arm and in an almost primal rage he

grabbed the nearest cultist he could and pulled him in. “The Leviathan has chosen me!”

The cultist yelled. Levi then bit into the man’s throat with all the force he could muster.

The man began to scream in agony as the other cultists continued to cheer and applaud,

they seemed to have no care that a man was bleeding to death in front of them. Even the

cult leader let out a roaring laugh as Levi released the bloody cultist back into the crowd.

The man writhed in agony, then to Levi’s surprise and disgust, the other cultist joined in

and began to bite into the man just as he did.

The scene was brutal and sent Levi into a state of shock. He was frozen as the

cultists began to brutalize one of their own. One woman screamed “Do as the chosen one

does!” After what seemed like way too long, the leader finally stepped in and told the

others to return to their seats. As they did, Levi continued to struggle against his

restraints, but was unable to free any of his other limbs. Levi looked around the room for

anything to use, the table with all the sharp objects was out of reach. He continued to

frantically search as the cult leader began to approach him again. That’s when Levi saw

the bloody pile of flesh that used to be the man he bit.

“Brothers and sisters, we shall now test the extent of the Leviathans abilities.”

The leader shouted to the room. Levi looked over and saw him approaching with the dart

gun in one hand and blade in the other. The mask covered the leader’s face, but he could

tell that underneath was a twisted grin. Levi continued to struggle as the man aimed the

dart gun at him. He shot let out 1 shot, Levi continued to struggle. He shot Levi again and

again, until Levi’s struggling was brought to a halt. Then the demented cult leader went

to work in front of his bloodthirsty audience.
