Standing outside the cave, I shivered uncontrollably as the bone-chilling wind prompted me to let out a sneeze. I hastily rushed back into the cave, closed the bamboo door tightly, and huddled near the fire and dry grass to regain some warmth.
Although it remained cold inside the cave, it was still better than the harsh conditions outside. I frowned with concern, "On such a cold day, leaving the cave with just these clothes will make us sick." The situation was far from optimistic, but not yet hopeless.
Suddenly, it struck me that we still had a Japanese snowsuit. A few days ago, when I had a fever, I considered wearing it, but the stench of death deterred me. However, Li Lin had diligently washed the military coat and hung it outside the cave.
Facing the freezing wind once more, I retrieved the military coat. After Li Lin's cleaning efforts, the smell, though still present, had become more bearable.
Clutching this thick coat, I felt a renewed sense of hope. When I opened the door and stepped outside, the cold wind hit me, quickly waking everyone up. They all looked surprised, not understanding what had happened.
Stolen story; please report.
Realizing the urgency of the situation, I woke everyone up, gathered them for a meeting. After describing the conditions outside, the atmosphere became somber, filled with confusion and fear. The weather on this island was extremely abnormal, truly mysterious.
However, we couldn't afford to investigate the cause of the strange weather right now. The pressing issue was how to survive.
The arrival of frost marked the beginning of winter, and the cave, relying solely on the warmth of the fire, could barely sustain us. But when true winter arrived, the fire alone wouldn't heat the entire cave, and huddling by the fire would lead to illness. More importantly, the intense cold would severely limit our ability to go outside, and with wildlife likely entering hibernation, food and fuel would become major problems.
Considering the rapid changes in the island's weather, the arrival of harsh winter could happen sooner than expected. We were facing a severe test of life and death.
I suggested, "Stay warm in the cave, and I'll go out wearing this snowsuit to see if I can hunt some fur-bearing animals to bring back." With only one coat, I was the only one able to venture out in search of food.
