Su Jie and I walked along the coast, chatting and laughing, feeling surprisingly energetic. Soon, we covered a considerable distance along the shoreline.
During our journey, I paid attention to the surroundings and terrain, being cautious. Perhaps, one day, this vigilance would prove useful.
Before long, we made a new discovery.
There was a person lying on the beach up ahead!
"There's still someone?" I exclaimed with excitement and rushed over.
It was a man wearing tattered yellow uniform, looking somewhat familiar, but I couldn't recall where I had seen that uniform before.
Clearly ravaged by the wild winds and waves, the uniform was in a dilapidated state, making it difficult to discern its original appearance.
Upon turning him over, I felt disappointed.
He was already dead.
Staring at his lifeless body, resembling the living, he probably hadn't been dead for long. A sense of melancholy overwhelmed me – perhaps, not long from now, I would become such a lifeless corpse?
Realizing he was a dead man, Su Jie became somewhat frightened, hiding behind me and avoiding looking at the corpse.

I composed myself and began searching the man's body.
Maybe there would be something useful on him.
Though I didn't hold high hopes for what might remain in his bag, considering the state of his clothes, what could be left inside?
However, I quickly realized I had underestimated the situation.
His bag surprisingly contained quite a few useful items, starting with a small pair of scissors. Additionally, there was a coil of iron wire, some cotton swabs, small pliers, and even a small bottle of alcohol, along with tools I couldn't recognize.
These tools delighted me; with them, I could craft many survival essentials.
It was truly a pleasantly surprising discovery!
I was thrilled deep down, but when I saw something he took out from his chest, my expression changed instantly. A chill ran down my spine, and a sense of foreboding filled my heart.
I pulled out an identification card from his chest pocket and looked at the photo – it was him.
It was a rescue team identification card.
This dead man was actually from the rescue team!
No wonder his pocket had so many small tools, specially prepared for unforeseen circumstances.
Looking at the freshly deceased man, I understood deep down that he must have been sent by the country as part of the rescue team to search for us. However, as a member of the rescue team, shouldn't he have professional skills and high-tech tools? How did he end up drowning here?
Thinking of the ragged state of his uniform and considering that there hadn't been any severe storms last night, everything seemed suspicious. I increasingly felt that this island was far from ordinary. We seemed to be entangled in a massive mystery...
I buried these doubts deep within, not telling Su Jie, and continued walking along the beach with her.
I wondered, could the surviving members of the rescue team have been swept out to sea?
If the person just now was an exception, maybe other members of the rescue team could still lead us off this deserted island. After all, nobody would want to be stranded on this deserted island forever.
