I discovered that these foods were not picked up easily, and soon realized the hidden dangers on this beach.
Firstly, the trees soaked in seawater for the past few days had made the soil soft, creating marsh-like areas and some traps. Though it appeared to be an ordinary beach, stepping on it might lead to deep pits. While it was possible to pull oneself out, the injuries could not be ignored.
More importantly, we weren't the only ones attracted by these foods. In the distance, I saw that enormous python again! I could almost confirm it was the same one Su Jie and I had encountered that day. The snake had a distinctive mark on its head, a scar from a previous injury forming a black pattern.
It seemed like this giant snake regarded this area as its territory! Even though it was still far away from us, I couldn't help but break into a cold sweat.
Apart from the snake, I also spotted several wild ospreys and two large cat-like animals that resembled wolves! Yes, they looked somewhat like wolf-sized felines. I determined they were feline because of their leopard-like fur. However, their heads were more similar to wolves. These creatures were significantly larger than ordinary cats but smaller than large dogs.
I knew that the island's ecosystem was closed, likely hosting strange creatures not found on the mainland. This creature, I guessed, was a rare island species. I temporarily named it "cat-wolf."

Seeing this creature from a distance, I was almost stunned. I knew it must be very dangerous with its sharp teeth and agile movements, destined to be a ferocious predator. Despite its somewhat smaller size, I had no doubt that facing this creature, there would be little chance of survival for Xu Xiaorong and the others.
I immediately sent Xu Xiaorong and the others back. Meanwhile, I continued to venture into the damp forest to gather food. Because there was plenty of food on the beach, neither the cat-wolf nor the python noticed me for the time being. I seized this opportunity to cautiously collect food from the peripheral areas.
While collecting food, I carefully observed the cat-wolves. Despite their danger, seeing their leopard-like fur ignited some risky thoughts in me. With these dangerous animals around, I didn't dare stay too long. I filled a small basket made of coarse bamboo strips and quickly left.
Walking back, I felt great joy. The small basket was filled with over a dozen fish and various other seafood, enough for three to five days if rationed. Of course, we couldn't eat seafood every day; we still needed a variety of foods.
"As long as we keep working hard every day, within this period, we shouldn't worry about food anymore." Food had always been our primary concern for survival. Now that the problem was temporarily alleviated, how could I not be happy?
However, even though we had food for now, I couldn't afford to be complacent. The weather had suddenly become very cold these two days, and more importantly, in the forest, I found many animals preparing for winter.
