Chapter 3: The Ogre (but Not Actually an Ogre) Hero

Bliss leaned her two-handed battle ax against the wall and then started adjusting the fabric of her red halter-top. Nearby, a large, ornate double-door waited, its surface encrusted with various gems of various colors. The door’s gray hue was similar to that of the hall’s walls, floor, and ceiling, though a tad darker. A pair of golden panels were located towards the center of the door, one on each sub-door. Clearly, the double-door was meant to be pushed open from this side.

“How do I look?” Bliss spun around so that Lati, who stood nearby, could get a good look at her.

Lati’s crimson eyes glanced over the succubus’s curves. “You look good.” Her tongue flitted out as she spoke.

[Please proceed to the Demon King’s throne room.]

Bliss’s slender, ivory fingers wrapped around the battle ax’s shaft as she picked it back up. “I got the left door.”

Lati nodded and positioned herself at the right panel. Just as they were about to push, a loud crash thundered from the chamber beyond.

“What was that?” Bliss pulled away, taken aback by the sudden, unexpected noise from beyond the door.

“Sounds like it already started.” Lati, the snake woman, backed up too, her tongue flitting out again.

“What started?”

“The Hero-Invasion event.” Lati crossed her arms, causing the curve of her large breasts to bulge out even more.

[The Hero-Invasion event is underway. Please proceed to the Demon King’s throne room.]

“So that explains why the system interface has been so pushy about proceeding to the Demon King’s throne room.” Bliss turned her gold eyes to her battle ax, her bunny ears displaying a bit of a twitch. Both staff and blade of the weapon were of a silvery metal. The blade itself was curved and sharp, looking to be in pristine condition. “Good thing I swapped that torch out for this thing. So there’s a hero behind there?” Another crash echoes from behind the door, drawing both their attention.

“It sure sounds like it. I heard the Ogre Hero invaded this time.”

“Ogre Hero? So the hero is an ogre?”

Lati giggled and shook her head. “No, silly. The humans wouldn’t have an ogre as one of their heroes. He is called the Ogre Hero, but he is actually human.” Her tongue flitted out once again. “I hear he is kind of ugly.”

“Ugly?” Bliss’s face starts to pale. “Wait. You don’t mean …”

“They also say he is kind of a bastard.”

“Hell no!” Bliss turned to run. “Not an ugly bastard.” She did not make it very far before Lati snagged the back of her halter-top. “Oh hell! Don’t pull there!” Both her big melons popped out in all their glory. “Damn it! You gave me my worst wardrobe malfunction yet!”

“S-Sorry.” Lati stared at the other woman’s chest as if in a trance. “You have really cute, pink nipples.”

“Stop commenting about them!” Bliss crossed her arms over her breasts in an attempt to hide them, her face going red.

“You missed a nipple.”

“Seriously, stop commenting about them.” Bliss’s bunny ears and tail were both twitching, her bat-like wings displaying a flustered flutter. Little bits of steam had even begun coming from her head.

Lati sighed and then turned her back to the highly flustered bunny succubus. “Go on. Make yourself decent.”

Slowly, Bliss lowered her arms, her cheeks still tinged in red. She quickly began maneuvering the red fabric of her halter-top, having said top back in place quickly enough. “You can look now.”

Lati turned back to the bunny succubus, stepping up to said succubus. She placed her palms on Bliss’s shoulders, her red eyes looking into Bliss’s gold. “Ugly bastard or not. You can do this. You are a strong, beautiful woman.”

“I-If you say so.” Bliss shivered but moved into place at the panel on the left sub-door. Lati, once again, took the right panel. In unison, they pushed, the heavy double-door creaking as it ever-so-slowly swung open. Beyond it, the color scheme (still gray) was not really any different. The chamber behind the door proved to be quite large, much larger than Bliss’s starting room was. Like in said starting room, the walls, floor, and ceiling were of a gray stone. Towards the back, a mighty, gray throne stood, matching the darker gray of the double-door.

There really had been a fight going on in here. Bliss’s golden eyes went to a particularly large crater in the solid, stone floor. I imagine that took quite a bit of strength to make. It’s not the only one either. She glanced to the throne, noting the man sitting upon it. The pointy-eared, tan-skinned man had a regal look about him and short, well-kept red hair. He was not particularly muscular but neither was he scrawny. To sum it up, he looked impressive. So he must be the Demon King.

Bliss turned her attention to the pair of figures dueling before the throne. So they must be the source of the craters. One of the two looked similar to the Demon King but had blue, tired-looking eyes. Actually, tired-looking described that combatant quite well. He wore light armor, its coloration a mix of silver and brown. His brown hair (definitely darker than Bliss’s light-brown hair) had a messy aspect to it. Though his hair was short, it was clearly longer than the Demon King’s.

And that big guy must be the Ogre Hero. Her gold eyes locked on the other figure, a massive brute with light-tan skin who towered over his foe. His arms were thick and beefy. Heck, his whole torso was huge. His legs, though, were somewhat lacking. I think I see where the Ogre-Hero title comes from.

“Oh! Hey! Lati! New girl!” The tired-looking man raised his right hand, waving at the two of them. His light-tan complexion was lighter than the Demon King’s complexion but not as light as Bliss’s. “Now you two can take over for me!”

Lati sighed, slumping her shoulders before looking to Bliss. “That lazy, blue-eyed demon over there is Rex.” She turned her red eyes to Rex, her tongue flitting out. “Hey, Rex, this new chick is Bliss!”

“Nice to meet you, Bliss! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go take a break! Have fun playing with the Ogre Hero!”

Is he honestly just quitting the battle and leaving two hot chicks to fight an ugly bastard. Bliss’s gold eyes followed Rex as he casually walked to the side of the room. Rex yawned upon reaching the wall and then proceeded to lazily lean against it. He totally did just quit the battle and leave two hot chicks to fight an ugly bastard. This is wrong on so many levels. The sound of high-heels tapping stone drew her attention to Lati, who had already begun running towards the Ogre Hero. “Don’t just run towards him! Attractive women fighting an ugly bastard seems like a very dangerous proposition!”

“It will be fine!” Lati looked back, her tongue flitting out. “I got this. You just relax.”

Oh hell. She plans to fight the ugly bastard alone. Is it just me, or is this totally a what-could-go-wrong moment? Bliss looked to the edge of her two-handed battle ax’s blade. Maybe I should just charge him too. Safety in numbers is a thing, isn’t it. A pained, feminine moan drew her eyes to the fight. Lati had been slammed into the ground and was now on her hands and knees, facing away from the Ogre Hero, her black panties in clear view. A bit of blood trickled from the left corner of her mouth.

Lati tensed. She looked back, her red eyes wide. “C-Can you see them? Don’t look at them.”

“Oh.” The Ogre Hero started walking towards Lati, his nostrils flaring, his brown eyes on the snake woman’s big, panty-clad rump. “Why not?” His short, brown hair seemed to become even more wild with each passing step.

I have to do something before a terrible thing happens to Lati. Bliss’s eyes widened as the hulking hero neared the snake woman. But … Her legs shook, her body uncomfortably stiff. I don’t want that terrible thing to happen to me either. She glanced to the bladed end of her two-handed battle ax. Well, it isn’t a spear, but why not? Gritting her teeth, she threw the weapon like a javelin. It’s working. It’s heading right for him. I cannot believe … The Ogre Hero caught it and tossed it harmlessly aside. Oh hell. Now I’m unarmed.

“Kya~~!” Lati screamed as a large, meaty hand pressed into her plump ass. “You perv!” She twisted around and leapt up, scoring a round-house kick to the side of the Ogre Hero’s head. As the ugly bastard stumbled back, she gracefully landed, a raging inferno in her eyes. She glanced to Bliss. “Stay back. Things are about to get real dangerous over here.” She then turned her fiery eyes back to the Ogre Hero. Black scales began to manifest, spreading across her soft, ivory skin. “Behold my poison form.”

Bliss’s jaw dropped at what see saw. Lati was still as beautiful as ever, but now she looked to be wearing a bodysuit of black scales beneath her clothes. She looks so cool right now.

“Is some two-bit, magical-girl transformation supposed to intimidate me or something?” The Ogre Hero lurched forward, steam puffing from his nostrils.

“This,” Lati referenced the scales on her arm, “is my poison armor, and this,” a haze began billowing out from her position, “is my poison miasma. To put it simply,” she began to gather her miasma in her palms, “you’re fucked.” She slammed her palms forward, bombarding the Ogre Hero with streams of her deadly miasma.

“What …” The Ogre Hero stumbled back, blood leaking from his eyes. “So hard … to breathe. I won’t die like this!” He bum-rushed one of the throne room’s windows, shattering the glass as he leapt out.

“He got away.” Lati pouted as she headed to the broken window, her tongue flitting out.

Bliss ran to her side to peer out the broken window too. “He really did get away.” In the darkness of the night, the succubus could barely make out his distant, fleeing figure. “Do you think your poison will get him?”

“Hard to tell.” Lati’s tongue flitted out again.

“I see.” By chance, Bliss’s left shoulder brushed up against Lati’s right. What the hell?! Bliss grimaced, tears in her golden eyes, pain shooting through her left arm. “M-My arm?! Oh hell! It feels like it’s melting!”

Lati blinked and then glanced at her black scales. “Oh crap! I’m still in poison form.” Dispelling her poison form, she frantically started checking her outfit for potions. She froze, noticing the broken vials nearby. Her potions had been knocked lose in the fight.

Bliss dropped to her knees, her eyes vacant. The pain in her left arm had been replaced by a numbness that was spreading to the rest of her body. So hard … to move. Am I … going to die? She dropped to the cold, stone floor.

“Hold on!”

She could hear Lati’s voice, but she couldn’t see her. She couldn’t see anything anymore. Are my eyes … even open? Some kind of warmth began washing over her.
