Chapter 10: To Lalet Village

Why does this damn road have to be so damn rocky?! Bliss bounced on the seat as the carriage hit yet another bump. She winced, rubbing her backside. Beside her, Lati glanced out the carriage’s window, a smile on the snake woman’s face. A pair of cloaks hung on the wall opposite the window, and Snek sat opposite of Bliss and Lati. Bliss looked to the pair of cloaks, prodding them with her finger.

“Do we really have to wear this stuff?” Bliss kept prodding the pair of cloaks. “It looks so … stifling.”

Lati turned to the bunny succubus, her long tongue flitting out. “It is annoying, but they don’t much like demons in Lalet Village. Best we keep covered up.”

“That so sucks.” Bliss hung her head down and sighed.

Wait. I can disguise myself as a human. Maybe I don’t need that cloak. Bliss smiled and activated her Natural Disguise. Her white bunny ears promptly melted away, being replaced by a pair of very human-looking ears at the sides of her head. Behind her, her black succubi wings and white bunny tail both melted away as well. They, though, were not replaced by anything. Humans do not usually have wings and tails after all. She reached up and touched her now-human ears before reaching back and running her fingers along the soft skin of her lower back. She moved her fingers a bit lower. Human ears, no wings, and no tail. That skill really did it. I look human, don’t I? She turned to Lati.

Lati’s red eyes were wide, her jaw having dropped. The snake woman glanced over the very human-looking succubus. “You so look like a human right now. Is that a skill? Can you change back?”

“It’s a skill I just got.” Bliss smirked and momentarily deactivated her Natural Disguise before reactivating it. Her succubi bits popped in and out of existence. “Seems easy enough to toggle.”

“I wish …” Lati’s tongue flitted out, her red eyes still on the once again human-looking succubus. “I wish I could do that.” She grabbed one of the two brown cloaks. “I would not need this stuffy thing if I could just suddenly look human.” Her tongue flitted out again, and she laid the cloak across her thighs. “Even talking is a hassle when I have to play human since I can’t flit my tongue out.” Her tongue flitted out again.

Bliss brought a hand to her mouth and giggled at her friend’s words. She watched as the snake woman returned to looking out the window. She then glanced to Snek, who sat across from them in silence, Snek’s eyes looking to be closed. Is she asleep? I guess it doesn’t really matter. Bliss turned her attention back to her status.

Looks like Natural Disguise does not, in fact, disguise my status. Wait. Can others see my status? Bliss glanced around nervously, a sweatdrop running down her cheek. Should I ask Lati? She brought a hand to her chin and closed her eyes as she thought. Maybe I shouldn’t ask Lati. Oh. I know. I’ll just ask Interface. Interface, can others see my status?

[Yes.]

Oh hell. She hung her head, her face going pale. I am going to have to wear that damn cloak, aren’t I. Wait a second. If they can see my status, how is that damn cloak going to help? She turned to the beautiful snake woman sitting next to her. Lati was still looking out the window. Why was she so impressed if the skill is basically useless though? I must be missing something here. Wait. Why can’t I see the statuses of others if they can see mine? Interface, why can’t I see Lati’s status?

[Someone’s personal status is considered confidential. It cannot normally be seen by others. Typically, something like a status stone would be needed to reveal someone’s personal status.]

Bliss blinked, a relieved smile settling in on her face. So my Natural Disguise is not useless after all. That is good. I was worried there for a second. She swung her legs playfully. It actually feels kind of weird to now have human ears and have neither wings nor tail. She brought her hands back to her ears.

“Oh. Look, Bliss.” Lati pointed outside the window, her tongue flitting out. “Look at that big stone.”

Bliss crowded around the carriage’s window, another bump of the carriage causing her to bounce up. Damn bumpy road. She sighed and then looked out the window. Her golden eyes came across a large stone, a large stone that was easily bigger than her. Its top was covered in spongy, green moss, and a bird was currently perched upon the moss-covered stone. The small bird possessed a lovely blue hue.

“That rock is pretty much at the gates of Lalet Village.” Lati took the cloak she had on her lap into her hands. “I better start putting this on.” She began twisting about, trying to put on said cloak while in the confined space of the carriage.

“Hey!” Bliss ducked an elbow she almost took to the face. “Pay attention to what you are doing, Lati!”

“Sorry.” Lati’s tongue flitted out as she apologized. “The carriage is kind of small.”

“Small or not. Don’t elbow me.” Bliss crossed her arms, narrowing her golden eyes at the snake woman before sighing. “Let me help.” A moment later, the two of them had finished getting the cloak into place on Lati.

Snek opened her eyes and yawned. She looked at Bliss and Lati before focusing directly on Bliss. “Something looks different about you?” She narrowed her brown eyes. “What could it be?” She joyously clasped her hands together. “Did you get a haircut?”

“Haircut?” Bliss blinked and pulled a few of her long, light-brown locks of hair forward. “Why the hell do you think I got a haircut?!” She gestured to her current lack of bunny ears. “I disguised myself as a human! That is the difference!” She huffed in exasperation for a moment before calming down.
