Chapter 16: Eyeless Stalker

Flecks of light drifted around Bliss and Lati as the pair proceeded deeper into the cavern. Both their high-heels lightly tapped the stone floor as the pair walked. Said floor possessed a light-blue coloration with numerous red speckles mixed in. Bliss stopped and held her arm out, stopping Lati.

“Do you see that?” Bliss’s white bunny ears twitched. Her golden eyes focused on something in the distance.

Lati leaned forward, squinting her crimson eyes. “No. I guess it is too dark for me.” The numerous flecks of floating light cast the place in a dim, dream-like lighting. Lati could, in fact, see pretty well in it, but it did obscure her vision somewhat.

Bliss pursed her lips. “I can’t really make out what it is from this distance, but …” her bunny ears twitched cutely, “I think it is moving. Might be another monster.” Her golden eyes went to Lati, and she smiled at the snake woman. “Stay back. I’ll go check it out.” Even with her Night Vision, she could not make out what the thing was from this distance. However, if she could get closer …

She pressed up against the red-speckled wall and began sneaking along it. Her footfalls became silent as she moved, no audible click from her high-heels. I guess that Shadow-Step skill came in handy. She continued quietly moving forward, the cavern wall to her back. Slowly, the thing came into focus as she drew closer to it.

The cavern narrowed into a passage up ahead. Standing a bit in front of said passage was a humanoid creature with a masculine build. It was tall, most definitely taller than Bliss. Its skin was green, and it wore no clothes. Razor sharp claws tipped its hands. As for its face, there was just one large mouth housing razor sharp teeth and a long tongue. The thing quite literally had no eyes.

What the hell is that thing? Bliss sweatdropped.

[Eyeless Stalker: A monster that sees without eyes, requires no light to see, and is known to ambush travelers.]

I guess the dim lighting is a non-issue for it then. Bliss’s golden eyes were still on the humanoid beast. Well, at least its mouth is smaller than the beast bunny’s was. The creature turned to her. Did it see me? It then turned away. Thank hell for my Shadow Step. That thing pretty much looked right at me, yet failed to actually see me. She let out a silent sigh, her bunny ears drooping cutely in relief. She looked back to the eyeless stalker. Why is it just hanging around in front of that passage? Could it be the guardian Snek mentioned. She narrowed her golden eyes. The creature turned away from her and faced into the tunnel, scratching its butt. No way this thing is the guardian. Still … I better deal with it.

Bliss began sneaking up behind the eyeless stalker. Her footfalls were silent. Her high-heels met the cavern floor without a sound as she drew closer. The creature yawned as she continued to close in. Now to take it out before it notices me. She drew her right hand back. Shadowy tendrils of black formed shadowy claws. She struck, scoring a Shadow Claw to the monster’s back.

A shrill yet quiet screech came from the eyeless stalker, and its tongue lolled out. It stumbled forward, making it only one step before collapsing just in front of the passage it had been staring down. It lay motionless on the cavern’s stone floor, flecks of light floating up from it.

Well, that was stupidly easy. Bliss stretched her arms and wings. Kind of felt good actually. She froze, her eyes going wide and a sweatdrop rolling down her temple. Oh hell. Please say I am not turning into a murder-hobo. She glanced down to the defeated eyeless stalker, both her bunny ears and tail twitching. Sighing, she looked back and found Lati watching from a distance. “You can come over! I already dealt with this thing!”

Lati’s black high-heels lightly tapped the cavern floor as she walked over. She wore a happy smile on her face. “Not bad.” She clasped her hands together, her tongue flitting out. She turned to the defeated eyeless stalker and bent over to get a closer look. Her crimson eyes scanned over its form, stopping on a certain part of male anatomy. “It had a big one.”

“Really?!” Both Bliss’s bunny ears and tail twitched. “You are commenting on that!”

Lati straightened up and shrugged. “Let’s continue on.” She pointed down the passage, her long tongue flitting out again. “Our cut awaits.”

“I suppose our cut does await somewhere down there.” Bliss turned to the referenced passage, the one the eyeless stalker she defeated had been standing in front of. “Shall we …” Her golden eyes widened as she realized a certain snake woman was no longer standing beside her.

“What are you waiting for?” Lati called back, already waiting for Bliss in the passage. “Come on. Our cut is waiting.”

“Coming.” Bliss stepped into the passage, catching up to the other woman. Guess she was pretty eager to step into this passage. She reached Lati in the passage, and the snake woman smiled. A moment later, the two were walking down the passage.

Bliss glanced at the walls as they walked. The walls possessed that same light-blue coloration with red speckles. She reached out and touched the wall as she continued forward. It’s cool. The warmth of the numerous flecks of light in the passage acted as a counter balance to the background coolness of the place. She looked forward, looked deeper down the passage. This passage looks pretty long. I have not seen any turns in it yet either. Maybe it is a straight shot.

She continued walking down the tunnel, Lati in front of her. She yawned and glanced down, her golden eyes going to Lati’s nice, big backside. A blush came to her cheeks, and she quickly looked away, her bunny ears twitching.

Lati glanced back, noticing her friend’s reaction. She cocked an eyebrow and giggled. “You are looking kind of red in the face.” She stopped and spun around to face Bliss.

“I … Uh …” Bliss’s golden eyes went to the oversized mounds on Lati’s chest, her face going redder.

Lati giggled again, bringing her right hand to her mouth. Her tongue flitted out, and she took on a serious expression. She leaned forward, her face close to Bliss’s. She narrowed her crimson eyes. “You aren’t thinking lewd thoughts about me, are you?”

“Of course not!” Bliss squeaked as she responded, her bunny ears twitching nervously, her face still red.

“Good.” Lati smiled and turned away from Bliss. The two of them resumed walking.

Damn it. I totally was thinking lewd thoughts about her. Bliss glanced at Lati as the pair continued to walk. She then shifted her gaze to further down the passage. It looks like we are nearing the end of this passage.
