Jacob Black

Getting out of the truck, Alex went to the makeshift gate and raised it up so he could pass with his truck.

Getting back inside the truck, Alex drove past and went out, closed the gate once more, and then drove the rest of the way inside the reservation.

Looking around, Alex could see the lush forest beside the worn-out road, it seemed like this part of the forest was even more luscious and filled with wildlife than the vampire one.

'It could be because the aura of vampires simply scares away most of the wildlife. It was said in the books that a vampire even exerts pressure on humans, not to mention normal animals, ' Alex thought as he drove steadily.

The rest of the drive didn't take long before he arrived at the houses of the Quileute.

The houses were made of planks with little to no stone or bricks used, they gave off a feeling feeling of something ancient that couldn't quite be replicated.

'It sure does look beautiful though, it has a different feel from modern stuff but that's the beauty of it, the fact that it's all made by human hand with no machines involved in the making of any of the building parts' Alex thought as a slight smile showed in his face.

While parking the truck to the side where some other old cars were parked, Alex got out and started walking towards the houses.

'That over there should be cousin Jake's house, while that one over there is Williams, ' Alex thought as he looked at the houses.

'Charlie really was a lucky dude to become friends with these guys. They never gave up on Charlie even though there was a small rift caused by the Quileute boys causing a little trouble for Carlisle, ' Alex thought as he walked past the first houses.

Looking off into the distance, Alex saw a slightly larger house compared to the other ones, it was also made of wooden brown planks similar to the other ones however so it didn't stand out much.

'That should be Jacobs and Billy's house.' Alex thought as he started walking towards the house.

With his increased hearing, Alex could even hear the people inside the houses, be it the mothers and fathers or the children playing around.

'It really is peaceful, I'm glad that this place became a protected sanctuary with help from the government' Alex thought his slight smile increasing at the atmosphere.

Arriving at Billy's house, Alex knocked on the door a few times and stepped back as he waited for anyone to answer.

The door opened, showing a confused Jacob, who quickly changed his expression to one of joy as soon as his eyes landed on Alex.

"ALEX" Jacob almost shouted as he came and gave him a large brotherly hug.

"Hey Jacob, as I told you, I thought I'd come for a visit. I hope I'm not intruding," Alex said as he smiled and returned the warm hug.

Jacob parted and then laughed lightly as he told Alex.

"No, how could you ever intrude? You're like a brother to all of us here. I was even surprised that I heard a knock; most of us just come in; next time, just do that as well; you're not some random guy." Jacob said with a smile, then gave room as he welcomed Alex inside.

"Well, what are you waiting for? Come inside." Jacob said and then stopped as he thought for a moment, and a grin appeared on his face.

"Or should I give the city boy a hand?"

Alex just shook his head, his smile everpresent as he went inside the house.

Unlike the outside which looked a bit rough around the edges and clearly showed the deterioration that age had caused, the inside was kept clean and the furniture looked well-maintained.

"Well, don't mind if I do, Where's Billy?" Alex asked Jacob as he walked to the living room.

Jacob, walking alongside him, answered offhandedly.

"Ah, he's at a council meeting about some issue, but I don't really have any idea about what. Elder secrets and all."

"Right, you guys have your own governing council, that was allowed to you guys in the treaty you made with the US government right?" Alex said as he sat on the couch.

Jacob nodded as he sat on a wooden reclining chair off to the side.

"Yeah, didn't know that you knew about that though," Jacob said as he faced Alex, his face clearly showing his curiosity.

"Ah, there was this website about the Quileute on the internet and it had some information about you guys," Alex replied as he took an apple that had been placed on the table.

*Crunch*

"These are good, much better than the ones with all the shit they put in the stores," Alex said.

"Yeah, we grow some here at the reservation, we don't really sell them and it's mostly for our own use," Jacob said as he took an apple for himself.

"Well, what do you guys do around here?" Alex asked as he looked around the house and then at the TV in front of him.

"And you still haven't fixed the TV I see," Alex said as he pointed at the TV.

Jacob scratched the back of his neck and gave a sheepish smile.

"I fixed it for about a day or two, but then Billy said the connection was bad and then broke it once more by trying to fix it," Jacob said and then got up from the chair and showed an excited expression.

"Oh, come, I'll show you my current project. I'm trying to get this old beetle fixed up and working," Jacob said as he started heading off toward the garage.

"Sure, sound fun," Alex said as he followed him into the garage, where he saw an old Beetle with an off-white color, though it clearly looked like a work in progress with quite a bit of parts missing from the engine.

"So what's missing at the moment? Are you scavaging parts off of car graveyards or just ordering them?" Alex asked as he came closer to look at the car.

"I usually get the car parts for cheap from the graveyards but I'm having to order some as it's just not a widely used model and it's hard to find ones that are still in working condition," Jacob said as he went and grabbed a metallic part that he had left on a wooden shelf.

"Right now I'm trying to get a replacement for the crankshaft but I'm having a bit of a hard time, I ordered one but they said it take a few weeks for it to arrive, and even then it could not be a useable part," Jacob said as he showed the clearly damaged part in his hands.

Alex looked at it and nodded.

"Yeah erosion really hasn't been kind to that, how did water even get in there?" Alex asked as he looked at Jacob.

Putting it back on the shelf, Jacob answered as he turned back towards Alex, his face showing his trademark sheepish look.

"Well, the hud covering the engine was filled with holes when I got it so I'm guessing it was caused by years of rain and just not being treated well by the original owner."

"Right, well you wanna get started on this or do you have to wait for the part to arrive to do anything more?" Alex asked as he pointed to the car.

"Ah, I just wanted to show you it, can't really do much without the part, I'll call you when I get it and we can work on it together, for now, we can go meet the others, they are at the beach right now probably riding the waves," Jacob said as he motioned for Alex to come with him.

"Sure man, just give me a call and I'll be right here to help you out with it, surfing in this weather isn't that a bit too cold and dangerous?" Alex asked as he followed Jacob.

"Ah we're used to it, I even do it sometimes but not as much as Sam or the others. This is the best weather for large waves, in the summer they're usually too small to get a good ride." Jacob said as he and Alex walked together to the beach.

"Hmm yeah I guess, still feels too dangerous," Alex said to Jacob who just smiled in response.

'If you guys were humans, that is,' Alex thought.
