I got up throwing a few horned rabbits to the floor as they tried to clamber over me. I was still a bit disoriented from just waking up so I just started swatting at them and swinging my tail whenever I heard something move.
I made my way towards the entrance to the hatchery and plopped myself down. Using my thick shoulder and head plates I formed an effective barricade as I also used my tail to kill anything that came close.
The rabbits continued charging at me but I slashed them away with my tail. After another hour of fighting the rabbits started retreating. Dozens started sprinting out, crushing each other in their escape. I got up covered in blood both from me and the rabbits. I first went to check on my children. All of them were pretty worse for wear but Trip had the worst of it. One of his legs had been completely shattered and he could barely walk now.
I broke at the sight of him slowly limping to his nest. This time the rabbits had gone too far. It didn't matter if they were led by a human or not. I will destroy them all for what they have done. I checked on the hatchery and was relieved to see not a single egg broken.
For the next week I waited until all my Children had healed and grown. I had gained a level after fighting off the attack and invested my stat point into brawn

After investing the point I felt my muscles tighten as they started to expand. I swung my claws around and could feel the power behind every swing. After testing out my new strength on a nearby tree I walked off to help with preparations.
After a week of preparing it was time for war. I assembled all my brood before me, dividing each of them into two legions. Tote and Blue would each lead 25 while Trip stayed behind because of his missing leg.
I looked at them all and sighed. I knew that many wouldn't return to the nest after today.Heck maybe none of them would! But it was time to stop being overprotective. If I was going to become a goddess I would need to make sacrifices. In the end I would bring them back. I would endure the pain of watching my children die over and over and over and over. I dug my claws into the ground and held firm.
I ordered my troops to move out each legion on a different side of me. We started at a trot but the second we saw a rabbit it became a full sprint. Tote reached it first, tearing its head off with a quick bite then continuing on. As we approached I saw something that made me even more worried. The rabbits had somehow constructed a catapult probably with the help of their human leader
Before we knew what was happening a boulder came crashing into our ranks killing two of my children. Their bodies crushed and broken in a split second. I felt my blood boil and could feel myself growing larger as the frenzy took hold. Another boulder hit us before we reached the rabbits. Four more died from this attack.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
Finally we slammed into the rabbits ripping and tearing as we advanced. The few dozen rabbits were quickly killed but more came to replace them. My brood continued to advance many dying as they did. I myself was a whirlwind of death on the battlefield.
My tail never stopped moving as I used my claws and teeth to destroy my enemy. After about two more minutes of heated battle the rabbits broke. Sixty of the rabbits retreated toward their nest. I walked over to the abandoned catapult and crushed it beneath my feet.
After we finished killing the stragglers I was about to order the advance when I heard a soft whimper. One of my Dagoon sat broken, missing half its body. Only the upper half remained; the rest was crushed under a boulder.
I stared for a second before breaking down into tears. I wailed into the sky as I knew what had to be done. I would not let my child die slowly and painfully on the battlefield. With a heavy heart I placed my tail above its head and gave him a quick death.
After a few more moments of staring at the body I ordered the troops to advance. We continued forward trying to reach the old nest before dark. As the sun started to set the rabbits went on the offensive. Hundreds burst out of the sand charging into our ranks.
We fought hard but their surprise attack let them deal large amounts of damage. We managed to regroup and destroy them but the cost was great. Only 23 remained of the original 52. Thankfully Tote and Blue were still alive. I didn't want to imagine living in this world without them.
The sun was starting to set when we reached the old nest and set up camp. 3 of the hunters had the job of transporting all the corpses back to the base. I had Tote and Blue do this as I was worried about Trip and wanted them to protect him. His leg had not healed, instead it had only gotten worse until finally he just chewed it off. The food would be needed to produce more hunters after this.
I kept watch thinking of all my children I would never get to know because of my own greed. As I stared into the water I wondered how I had found myself transitioning from waiting tables at a diner to leading armies of reptilian wolves who were my children. I didn't regret it though, I had nothing when I was human. Now I had people who loved and cared for me. Even though they aren't humans their love fills me with joy.
The next morning arrived and we continued our advance. The rabbits seemed to be collecting their troops to defend their nest so the march was uneventful.
Finally we could see the bones of the giant bear they had eaten that seemed to have been moved to form a base. The rib cage had been taken apart and used as a barricade. When we were 500 feet away I told my soldiers to charge. Before that I told five to go around the base and attack their flank. A pincer maneuver that might help tip the odds in our favor. As we approached the enemy I tried to find the Human who led the rabbits.
I saw them as we were around 200 feet away. They were humanoid but I could see their long ears and the amount of fur told me he was still partly a rabbit. I assumed it was a he because it had a masculine face. It stared at me as I was clearly the leader. I was more than double the size of my children and had a much longer tail.
The humanoid rabbit pointed something at me that made me squeak in terror. The leader of the rabbits pointed its flintlock pistol at me and with a deafening bang a bullet shot toward me. The second he pointed it at me I dodged to the side but unfortunately a hunter was running behind me.
I watched in horror as the bullet collided with the hunter’s head and completely obliterated its skull. Bits of bone and brain rained down onto my hunter’s and snarled at the desecration of my child. What worried me though was that the bullet would have hit me in the face if I hadn’t dodged. That meant this person had not only been able to build a catapult and a pistol but also have impeccable aim with said pistol.
When we reached 50 feet he had reloaded and was already prepping his next shot. He didn't even aim at me, instead shooting down another hunter. I grew more and more angry until I felt the effects of the frenzy taking hold. I was astonished as all of the hunters started growing in size. They were almost twice as big as usual but I was still taller. I was now four times the size of a hunter.
Just as we finished growing our forces collided. I bit down on a rabbits neck crushing it while I used my tail to smack as many rabbits as I could away. I had stopped getting exp from rabbits after they attacked our base. It was annoying but it made sense as I could kill dozens in only a minute.
The fighting continued with the leader of the rabbits staying the back slowly whittling our numbers down. I grew more and more helpless as there were hundreds of rabbits between me and the human. After 10 minutes we were down to 8 Dagoon. The ones who were sent to the flank had been massacred before they could do much. I was also starting to slow down because of the amount of blood I had lost.
After only two more minutes we were down to just me and one other Dagoon. I started panicking looking for a way out. Then I heard a loud bang and suddenly I lost vision in one eye. The last Dagoon looked at me and with a roar started desperately smacking the rabbits away.
He managed to clear a rapidly closing path so I took that time to bolt. While running I grabbed him by the neck when the rabbits started attacking. I threw him as hard as I could away from the rapidly advancing horde. I ordered him to run then charged after him. We were faster than the rabbits and started to outpace them.
Any time one got too close we used our tail to slash at them. Like this we were able to escape. The rabbits gave up by the time we reached the old nest. Thankfully the rabbit’s leader had not been able to get a clear shot so we were able to escape with any major injuries from the chase. We walked inside and collapsed. I couldn't even move anymore as my legs had been torn apart in the fighting. I still couldn't see out of one eye and guessed I probably never would.
I don’t know how long we slept but when I woke up I was carried to the nest. I passed out a few seconds after. I opened my eye and saw that I was now back at the nest. I looked around saw that there were only 7 Dagoon left. Tote and Blue were organizing the others in the shadow of the giant body pile. There were easily 500 dead rabbits. Many had died and the extermination had failed. However, their sacrifice would provide for the next attack. We didn't have the quality needed before so I told Brick to build another building. This time for soldiers. We were going to raise an army. One this brutal world had never seen.
