Onyx’s POV
We were ready. 3000 various Dagoon attacking the walled fortress. The fortress had three sets of walls we would have to cross. Thankfully I had the foresight to not charge in blindly. I had been spending the last week having the workers dig a tunnel into the city center. We would have all the hunters on the frontal assault while the soldiers led by Julius slaughtered the humans. With 400 soldiers I felt a good chance of victory.
I looked around at our surroundings. A barren plain that abruptly turned into a mountain. I looked over and saw Julius entering the hole. I had recalled him from the transportation of the prince and let the hunters move the egg. We needed Julius here. I looked around for Cate and saw her ready to charge the gate. She had two smaller versions of her ready to go as well. They weren't as intelligent as Cate but could still get the job done. Cate would take down the gate while the other two took down the walls.
For some of my brood this would be their first battle. A few thoughts had been with me since our victory over the rabbits. Their bodies were covered in scars. I still had a very large scar where my eye had almost been shot out. I took a final glance at my children before ordering them to charge.
Cate raced forward and spun slamming her tail into the gate. It surprisingly held but wouldn't hold much longer. The rest of my children started scaling the walls. Many were shot down by both bullets and arrows. The walls were large allowing the humans to have a row of infantry in front of the ranged soldiers.
A few of my children made it to the top and started ripping into the humans. The hunters killed a few before being cut down. I had been hoping that the walls would be easier to take but it wasn't our main objective. With one final hit the gate shattered. Cate walked in first with a forward roll. She crushed a few people, got up and started eating. Hunters poured in but were stopped by a shield wall.
It looked like we would be stuck there too but thankfully my other ogres were working hard. There was a hole in the wall that was quickly growing. Hunters sprinted inside desperate to die for their queen. And yet I sat on a hill waiting.
I had 30 soldiers with me and was waiting for the right opportunity to strike. These were the soldiers who had journeyed with us through the forest. They had killed many humans and knew how to fight them. We would wait to serve as the final nail in the fortress city's coffin.

But as I waited I grew annoyed. These humans wouldn't run. They didn't have a number advantage and yet they were winning. They held the line and even the added number of hunters from the hole did nothing. If this continued we might win but we wouldn't be able to continue our advance.
I saw smoke coming from the city walls so I knew Julius had attacked. And yet we were still losing. The battle continued for another hour before I finally ordered my troops to retreat. We had lost almost 1000 hunters. Thankfully we only lost 50 soldiers. Still those were not losses we could afford.
I stalked back to our camp fuming. We had suffered a defeat. Winter was coming soon and once the snow hit we wouldn't be able to make much progress. My plan had been to hole up in the city but to do that we would need to take it.
I found Julius and ordered him to go to each of our villages and bring every soldier we had. We would take this fortress. No matter what we had to have it.
Egg’s POV
I seemed to be in a field. Filled with dead grass and dead bodies. 30 of them looked like the Dagoons described in my mind. This annoyed me as I didn’t want my siblings to die. The other 60 were human. They had raggedy clothes and large forks as weapons.
I was peeved! How dare they harm my entourage. I was a royal they would rue the day they messed with… ! Funny thought here, I don't have a name. I thought about it for a second before ignoring it. They would still rue the day they messed with me.
Thankfully it seems one had come back to retrieve something. He walked onto the battlefield and started searching for something “Cmon where is it!” He muttered this while searching bodies. After a while he found a band of metal and took it. I followed him with my soul eye for a few minutes and came upon a small assortment of huts.
This was the group of people who had wronged me! They had done it indirectly but had still done it. Now they would pay. I let my soul eye hover around my egg as I looked through my spells. I found the necromancy section and looked through it. I could animate them all as skeletons or as a gigantic flesh golem.
I really wanted a big pet so I combined all the corpses into a flesh golem except one human corpse. I raised it as a skeleton and had it pick me up. The flesh golem was 30 feet tall and had three 5 foot long claws on each arm. It had a head but no face. I felt he needed a name so I named him Gur. A simple name for a simple man. I named my new skeleton butler Jeeves. Now with my own court of servants I set out to take revenge.
