When I got close the Guider warned me of a river valley close by that was swarming with people, naturally I immediately assumed they were all Experts and Rankers.
I opted against checking it out as I was by myself and would probably immediately become a target.
Eventually, I got to the general area that the Guider had marked out as the Ranker Event location.
I immediately slowed down my pace and was very careful with every step.
I took a route around the area that wasn’t full of people and the closer I got the more apparent the location of the Ranker event became as icons congregated and disappeared in one single spot.
Eventually, I found a route completely devoid of people that headed straight to the Ranker event location and hurried forward until I finally reached the spot on the map.
But when I got there I became confused, as all I saw was an empty clearing in the middle of some forested hills.
There was no sight of any people gathering or signs of any human activity whatsoever.
In my confusion, I made a step toward the clearing to see what was going on, but as soon as I did a marking on my finger lit up, and suddenly a whole new world appeared before my eyes.
There in front of me was a massive market plaza full of tents, buildings, and people of all kinds.
The tents and stands were full of items I couldn’t recognize, a couple large mysterious buildings were scattered about, around which people of all sizes, different colors and different shapes and features walked around.
The more I observed the more astounded I became.
Everyone looked strong and capable and there was an aura of treasure surrounding the whole place.
Before me, I saw for the first time people, persons, and Races I had never seen before and only heard of in hearsay and pictures.
I saw members of the infamous goblin race in front of me, beast people of all kinds, the ogre race, the troll race, the elven race, the dwarf race, innumerous amounts of Evolved Experts, and more mages than I could count.
For a moment I wondered if I had teleported to the United Kingdom of Manafort as it was said these were all the races that were abundant in that kingdom.
But upon closer inspection, I realized that there actually weren’t that many of them and that the majority of the people were still of the human race.
I also noticed many other races I had not seen in pictures or heard of or have any knowledge of whatsoever.
I figured it was rude to ask such a question so I kept my curiosity to myself.
As I entered deeper into the Ranker Event I noticed that there weren't guards of any sort or officials, not even at the entrance, everything seemed to be self-organized and self-managed.
It seemed whatever item they had that cloaked the Event in invisibility in the middle of the forest was enough to keep away unwanted eyes and visitors.
I also figured that if there were any guards or officials they were probably hidden and not in plain sight.
Soon I realized that the lack of security wasn’t the only thing that was weird about the event.
In past market gatherings, I had taken part in, everyone was very social and amicable as they were doing their best to either get a good deal or sell as much as they could, that was the case even in the black market.
But here that was not the case.
Different from most market environments, everyone here walked alone or in small groups, with a couple of large powerful-looking groups here and there.
But for the most part other than the transactions almost everyone kept to themselves.
There were many people who I was unsure if they were Rankers or not, peddling and selling items, but the way they did so was in an aloof or very arrogant way.
There were many many food shops all claiming some special property, effect, or power in their food.
This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
Almost all of the food looked delicious and did have an aura of grandeur and uniqueness about it, and they were some of the stands with the most customers.
There were also quite a bit of weapon vendors although not as many as I had thought there would be.
That was probably because of the Ranker culture I was already beginning to notice.
Nothing was too flashy as if everyone knew what value their items had so they didn’t need to flaunt or advertise them too much.
As of right now everything I was seeing probably wasn’t even the beginning of what could truly be found in this place, if one looked in the right places.
I observed what people were trading in and I saw mostly 4 types of transactions.
Surprisingly many people were trading in Gold but in very high amounts like in the thousands, they were also naturally also trading in Platinum and I was shocked to see that they even traded Platinum coin half pieces which I did not expect.
I was starting to get a feeling that Rankers were quite stingy people.
The other forms of currency I saw were item exchange and bartering.
I also wasn’t surprised by that and I had come prepared for such a situation with most of my travel load other than my weapons consisting of valuable items I wanted to sell or trade myself.
The last thing I saw most people trade with was a blue shiny stone the size of a small pebble.
Many people were using these to buy stuff, I didn’t know what they were but I figured they must be valuable if they were used as currency by Rankers.
Because of that fact, I had an educated guess of what they might be inside my mind, which I wanted to confirm eventually.
Another thing I noticed was the lively environment; apart from the Experts and Rankers, there were many shows, live music, and beautiful girls for some reason spread throughout the whole market plaza.
I had no idea if they were Rankers as well or who had hired them but I didn't care.
It made things be, not as depressing as the clientele the event was attracting.
My guess was that the organizer of the event had paid for them.
I started to explore more and as I did I discovered even more things.
There were mostly big tents, huts, and open stands as far as structures were concerned, similar to most open markets, but there were some sturdy-looking building-like structures here and there, whether they were permanent or how they were built so fast I don't even think the Rankers visiting the event knew.
But after asking myself that question I then noticed what the label of one of those buildings read, it said “Seeier Organization '' and many people were crowded around it.
At that moment many of my questions were answered.
I knew about the Seeier Organization because they were famous throughout most of Potestera, and after seeing the building I came to the logical conclusion that they were probably the ones who organized the whole event.
For as much as I had heard about them though, I also really didn’t know much about them.
I knew they handled all things related to Rankers in many respects.
They also in a way represented the Seeiers’ will and thoughts although the latter is highly debated.
Most people around the world find out most information related to Rankers through the Seeier Organization as most people don’t know how to directly contact the Seeier.
After becoming a Ranker I now knew the Seeier directly contacted you not the other way around.
To what extent I still didn’t know as all I ever heard the sly bastard say was annoying double-edged comments in bad taste.
In my curiosity and to get rid of my ignorance, I figured I would give it a visit when it was less crowded to see if I could get any more Seeier Organization Documents, which I had come to realize were very valuable.
I hoped getting them wouldn't be too hard or too expensive.
