69th Night: Settling

“Wow.”

“Look at them.”

In the middle of Cugine City, a lot of people were chatting and pointing in the same direction. They pointed at a group which stood on the corner of a street trying to catch a cab. Who stood there were three humans, who each possessed an undeniable charm.

On the left stood a boy, who was dressed casually yet stylishly. He was handsome yet boyish, and possessed a charm to attract women of all ages. On the right was a woman who despite being extremely attracted couldn’t be described with the words beautiful or sexy. One could only feel like that words like cute, adorable, and lovely would be the right words to describe her. Any other words would made you feel like you were tainting her with worldly desires.

The one in the center was someone completely different. He was handsome indeed, but what really stood out about him was his aura. Even though he was not doing anything special, this man made everything around him look inferior. As if only him was just, like only him was to reign supreme. No one could properly describe it, but that was how they felt when they looked at him.

A ruler among men, a god among kings, that’s the impression he gave.

“I know that they don’t know who we are, but don’t you think us attracting this much attention defeats the purpose of disguising ourselves?”

Amelia asked.

“It’s actually the opposite. While it’s true we’re attracting attention, it’s the good kind of attention. This will allow us to merge into society more easily.”

Reina answered.

“She’s right. We’re giving off a good impression, which is a good thing. That’s because those who give off good impressions tend to go unnoticed after all, or should I say that they’re quickly forgotten. Well, that’s in comparison to those give off bad impressions anyway. People tend to remember the bad things about someone more than they remember the good. This is why a hero can turn in a villain with one mistake.”

Rory explained.

“The attention will die down, for now just enjoy it.”

He wave at a group of women who were watching him from across the street. They all started to act bashfully after they saw that.

“I think your explanation would be credible if it was just the two of us, but you draw too much attention. You’re not on the level where you’ll die down. You’re on the level where people would make fan clubs and cults about you.”

Amelia said.

“What’s up with your charisma and aura? Are you using anima to charm people or something?”

“No, this is just my true self.”

“True self? What do you mean?”

“Well, you can say that if you feel charmed by me, then that just mean we’re on two different planes of existence. We’re on different levels of life. Although I can only now do this again after recovering more of my true power.”

“What?”

The girls became confused after hearing what he said.

“Well, you don’t need to think that hard. Let’s just say that there’s many sides to a person.”

Rory pointed at himself.

“This side is just my side that’s on the path to Godhood. Demigod Rory, if you will.”

He then burst out laughing. The girls still didn’t completely understand what he was trying to say, but they decided to let it go.

“So, what do we do now?”

Amelia asked.

“We should probably look a place to settle down. In a place like this, there are countless places to stay.”

Rory replied.

“But considering our current image, it would be fitting if we live in one suitable of our status. Well, publicly assumed status.”

“But we don’t have that much money, and we’re only relying on Reina’s savings.”

“No money, then what do you call this?”

Rory took out a wallet filled with Ani notes. They were all 5000 Ani notes too.”

*Author Note: Again, Ani is the world’s currency.*

“Where did you get that?”

“I stole it.”

He shamelessly answered.

The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

“What about that Demi-God stuff earlier?”

“Don’t gods always steal stuff from mortals, calling it a trial? I’m just doing the same.”

Rory said while stopping a cab. He got in with a smile on his face. The girls looked at each other and then entered as well. The people on the street watched the cab drive away until they couldn’t follow it any longer.

“Yo, mister. I have a question.”

Rory spoke to the driver, who was a Minotaur.

“We’re new to town so we don’t have any place to live. Could you suggest to us the place you believe is most fitting for us?”

The Minotaur driver looked at Rory and widened his eyes in shock. He was instantly overwhelmed by Rory’s presence.

“The Golden Breath Villa.”

He quickly said.

“What’s that?”

“It’s where the richest and most influential people in this city resides. It’s like a domain for royalty. I’m sure you’d fit right in.”

“Hm….I see. Then take me to that place.”

“Rory.”

Reina wanted to say that they most likely couldn’t afford such a place, but Rory stopped her by placing his fingers on his lips.

“Driver, take us there. I’m counting on you.”

“L-Leave it to me!”

The driver suddenly became excited when he heard that. He sped up and drove the three deeper into the city and brought them to the Golden Breath Villa. When they arrived, they were a bit taken back.

What they saw was a huge golden gate that read Golden Breath on it. The walls were made of marble with gold dust mixed into it. From what they could see from their position, the villa was very vast and was filled with mansions of various designs. All the houses had a golden light surrounding them.

The villa looked like some place gods would live.

“This is the Golden Breath Villa? It’s amazing.”

Said Amelia.

“Thanks, mister. Here’s a tip.”

The girls saw Rory step out of the cab and gave the man a couple 5000 Ani bills. The cab ride here didn’t have cost a quarter of a single one of those bills. When the man saw the bills, he held them and looked at them with disbelief.

“T-Thank you! Thank You!”

The man shouted excitedly. The girls existed the vehicle and watched the man drive off.

“Why did you give him so much money? We’re not even certain we can afford to live here as it is.”

Reina asked.

“You worry too much.”

Rory pointed at himself.

“I’m Demigod Rory. Everything will be fine.”

He then turned around and walked to where the gatekeeper was.

“Is he planning on using that alias from now on?”

“Who knows?”

The girls followed behind him and three approached the gate.

“Hello.”

Rory spoke to a Satyr guard, who was busy playing on a gadget.

“Do you have an appointment? You can’t visit anyone without an appointment.”

The guard answered without looking at him. Rory and the others came here in a cab, so to the guard, they weren’t anyone important. He didn’t even feel the need to see their faces.

“I don’t.”

“Then please return to where you came from.”

Rory didn’t get upset and only smiled.

“That would be a problem. I’m here to buy a home.”

“Buy a home? Ha, you can’t just buy a home here.”

“But I can.”

“Look here! I’m telling you-?!”

The man finally looked and saw Rory’s face. Like the others he was immediately stunned.

“You were saying?”

Rory asked with a smile.

“I-I’m sorry. You wanted a home right? I’ll get in contact with the manager, right away.”

“You do that.”

Rory watched as the guard desperately tried to contact his superiors. He was obviously overwhelmed by Rory’s presence.

“You know, rather than say he’s a god, he seems more like the devil to me.”

Amelia said. After a while, some people in suits came from the smaller gate beside the giant one. They first appeared with arrogant expressions, but when they saw Rory and the girls they lost every ounce of arrogance. They quickly walked up to them and greeted them.

“Good afternoon, my name is Jane and I’m the manager of this prestigious villa.”

The woman at the front approached them and greeted them with a smile. She looked like she was in her late twenties or early thirties, had a pleasing face and figure, and had white snakes for hair.

“A gorgon? A high ranking beastman on the par of vampires, and werewolves.”

Rory said with a pleased look.

“I haven’t seen one in a while. What’s a beautiful thing like you doing in a place like this?”

“With all do respect, could you please refrain from prying into my private life.”

The woman answered. The girls were shocked when they heard her response, this was the first they’ve seen anyone defy Rory since he took this form. They started to wonder if it was because she was from a high ranking race.

“I see. My apologies. We’re here for a residence in your villa.”

“Then may I ask for some proof of identity for all of you, as well a proof of income. We also do a background check on everyone that applies here, I hope that’s alright with you.”

“We’re not from here.”

Rory replied.

“That’s okay. We have an impressive information network. If you exists, we’re sure to find information about you.”

Jane replied with a confident tone.

“I see.”

Rory nodded as if he understood something. The girls started to wonder what he was going to do.

“If you’re that confident, then I have to oblige.”

Rory dug into his pocket and took out a coin and flicked it at her. Jane caught it calmly and looked at it.

“?!”

She was so shocked and frightened that she dropped the coin, and fell on her bottom.

“Madam, what’s wrong?!”

All of her subordinates immediately rushed towards her.

“You, what did you do?!”

They all looked at Rory with enraged looks.

“Nothing. I just showed her who I am.”

Rory answered calmly.

“T-T-T…..”

Jane pointed at the coin on the coin while stuttering.

“The coin, pick it up at once!”

She shouted.

“The coin?”

The men all looked at the coin on the ground. It was made of gold and was embedded with diamonds, but what really caught their eyes was the lotus that was engraved on it.

“The Holy Mother?!”

The men suddenly fell to their knees and started bowing in front of the coin. This shocked the girls because these people were clearly worshipping the coin.

“Idiots, I said to pick it up!”

Jane got up angrily and carefully picked up the coin. She then started to inspect it. The longer she looked at it, the more her body trembled.

“It’s real.”

She muttered. She then looked at Rory.

“May I be as rude to ask, where did you get this?”

“Where? I got it from Guanyin herself.”

“?!”

The woman and her subordinates were shocked again, but they saw Rory and felt his godly aura, they felt that he was speaking the truth. The man in front of them was definitely a great figure. Someone who was acquainted with the holy mother.

“Hurry and prepare the best mansion you can find! If you don’t find any that’s acceptable then you can take mine!”

Jane ordered. The subordinates quickly ran to carry out her order. She then turned around and faced Rory with a bright smile.

“Your Majesty, right this way.”

The girls stood and watched this whole thing with confused expressions. Despite not revealing his identity, Rory is being treated as like a king. They stared at the coin in Jane’s hand and asked themselves a question.

“Just who is this Holy Mother, and what does she has to do with Rory?”
