44th Night: City On Fire

The explosion had woken up the entire city. All the citizens started to panic after hearing it. They realized that the infamous sacred warriors were about to march on their city. Their worst dreams became reality when the first group of soldiers were seen entering the city.

They all knew that they had no where to run. As for those in the palace, they knew that it was time to battle.

“Alright, everyone. It’s time for battle.”

Serket stood up and said.

“James, you’ll lead the remaining soldiers and have them team up with Liam and Brooks. The Brooks family soldiers are incredibly strong and numerous, if you combine your military talent with Liam’s sly and crafty tactics, you two should be incredibly strong.”

She spoke with a commanding tone.

“Also Liam, you’re to fight as well. Stop letting your skills rust and fight with your own hands.”

“Yes, mother.”

Liam responded.

“Chris, you and Reina will act independently and do what you can to turn things in our favor. Assassinations, kidnappings, torture, anything is allowed as long as it provides results.”

“Yes, mother.”

Christi responded.

“Xavier…”

“Yeah, I already know. In order for everything to work, I need to stay hidden. As such, ill move in the shadows with Allan. Of course, while being disguised.”

Xavier said.

Serket nodded.

“Richard and I will act together.”

She said.

“Wait, Serket.”

Rory cut in.

“Don’t forget not to go too wild. You were already on thin ice with the Sacred Army because of me. Anymore and you’ll become a wanted criminal as well. After that, you won’t be able to stay here and your family might be prosecuted as well.”

He said.

“Thanks for the warning.”

Serket said with a smile.

“Elia and I will act together. Our goal is to slaughter as much as we can and draw all the attention on to us. You guys can do as you wish after that.”

“Won’t that make me into a wanted criminal?”

Amelia asked.

“It was bound to happen if you hang around me. So what does it matter if it’s now or later?”

Rory replied.

“Well, if you don’t want to come along with me you can join the Princes and fight with them.”

He said.

Amelia immediately shook her head.

“I’m your partner, so I don’t mind becoming a criminal.”

“Good. Work hard and you might get a huge bounty. When that happens, you’ll meet some interesting bounty hunters aiming for your head.”

Rory said with a laugh.

“Now that that’s settle….”

Serket showed a savage smile.

“Let’s run wild.”

“Yes!”

While Rory and the others made preparations to meet the enemy, the Sacred church forces started wrecking havoc in the city.

*Boom!*

Guards that were trying to stop their advances towards the palace, were blown away by the combined attacks of the warriors.

“Kill the heretics!”

The church warriors roared and started to slaughter every citizen that they saw. They didn’t care if they were hostile or not, in their eyes they were fools that defied their god and thus needed to killed.

“Praise the Sacred God!”

Some citizens tried to show their faith by publicly worshipping the Sacred God. However, that only angered the soldiers more.

“Damn heretics!”

“You dare mock our god!”

“Die!”

The church warriors roared angrily as they slaughtered the defenseless citizens.

“Burn everything to the ground!”

“Oh!”

The warriors then started to lit their surroundings a fire. They threw fire bombs into stores, houses, and every building they came across. Some even lit the corpse and threw them into buildings to be used as fuel.

Their acts were cruel and far from Sacred like their titles.

“Oh, you guys sure are having fun.”

That’s when a group of soldiers who were taking turns raping a group of women, heard a voice behind them.

They turned around and saw Rory’s bright smile.

“Is it fun, sex? Especially when your partner is beautiful.”

That’s when his eyes became incredibly cold.

“However, sex is only fun when it’s consensual. Right, Elia?”

At that moment, the soldier saw an orange figure flash before their eyes. The next thing they knew their worlds were spinning and their visions were fading. The last thing they saw were a pair of cold but beautiful blue eyes looking down on them.

*Thud!*

“Ahhhh?!”

The women started screaming when they saw the heads of their attackers rolling on the ground.

“Why are you asking me that?”

Amelia, who had beheaded them with her swords, turned around and asked Rory.

“I don’t have any sexual experience.”

“I can change that whenever you want. Just say the word.”

Rory replied.

“Hmph.”

She stopped paying him any mind and looked back at the partially naked women. They were all trembling in fear as they looked at the dead bodies.

“It’s alright now. Everything is fine.”

Amelia said to them.

“There’s a route leading to the mountains in the north, not too far away from here. If you take that you’ll meet with the queen’s people. They’ll shield you.”

“A-Are you coming with us?”

One of them asked.

Amelia shook her head.

“Sorry ladies, but she and I already have a date with some fanatics. So you need to go there yourself.”

Rory said.

The women nodded, fixed themselves up, and ran away.

“Did you do something to them just now?”

Amelia asked.

“I saw some anima enter them and their eyes became unfocused. Did you controlled them or something?”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Rory replied.

“More importantly, things really have gotten lively.”

“Why are you talking like this isn’t your fault? You caused all these people to suffer.”

“You don’t see me going around burning everything to the ground.”

“You know what I mean.”

Amelia replied.

“You’re upset?”

“Of course. Anyone would be upset after seeing this. Don’t you feel anything while these people suffer?”

“You’re asking if I feel anything towards the suffering of complete strangers? Hardly. An order was given for them to all evacuate to the mountains before this all happened, but they chose to put their faith into their god and his warriors.”

Rory shrugged.

“If they die, they die. I gave them a path of survival, I feel no remorse for idiots.”

He said.

“You’re an evil bastard, you know that.”

Amelia said.

“Hahaha! I know.”

Rory laughed.

“But you’re the one who chose to walk my path. Remember that.”

After he said that he turned around and left. Amelia clicked her tongue and followed him.

“If you’re upset, then try to save as much as you can.”

Rory said while walking around. He then suddenly rushed in a direction and kicked through a building.

*Boom!*

Once he was out on the other side, he grabbed a soldier that was surprised to see him and slammed his head on the wall so hard it burst.

He then looked around and saw a lot of soldiers who were shocked shitless.

*Boom!*

At that moment, Amelia burst through the wall Rory burst through gripping her sword. She rushed towards the soldiers and and began to to cut them to pieces with her sword.

She then stood there with her sword stained with blood, while looking down on the corpses.

“If you’re upset, then try to kill as much of their enemies as you can. If that’s the only way you can bear the guilt of working with the one who damned them, so be it.”

Rory said.

“As for me, I’ll kill who I want. Steal from who I want, and destroy what I want.”

He lifted his hand in the air and a bolt of lightning shot towards the sky. The bolt then morphed into the shape of a serpent, before striking down on the ground.

*Boom!*

Several screams could be heard coming from the direction it landed.

“That is how I live my life.”

He looked at her.

“If you want to change me then become someone worthy changing for.”

Amelia frowned when the smell of burning flesh reached her nose.

“I won’t force you to change. You’re a grown man. If you want to change, do it yourself. Don’t rely on me to do it.”

She said as she dashed forward and jumped into the air, with flames dancing around her sword.

“Wha?!”

Some soldiers who were turning the corner, were shocked when they saw her. She swung down her sword and a blade of flames crash down on them.

*Boom!*

Flames blew the soldiers away while burning them to death.

Amelia landed not too far away from them and sheathed her sword. She then looked back at Rory.

“I have my own problems to deal with. So I don’t have time for your games.”

She said while turning her back to him.

“Hahaha!”

Rory burst out laughing when he heard that.

“I see. Then my apologizes.”

He smiled and followed her.

“But this is odd though. Are the church’s forces always this weak?”

Amelia asked.

“No, these are just recruits or rejects. They were sent before the main forces to cause chaos and confuse the enemy.”

Rory answered.

“Their sole purpose is the reel us into attacking their main forces by angering us with heinous deeds. It’s people like them why people fear crusades. Real church warriors wouldn’t commit such vulgar acts. They’re too proud.”

He explained.

“I see. Then they’re scum even in the church. I feel even more eager to slaughter them all.”

Amelia said.

“Really? I’m waiting for the real forces to come.”

Rory showed an evil smile.

“I like to kill those the most, rather than these insects.”
