37th Night: Origins

37th Night: Origins

At the northern mountains on the outskirts of the city, Amelia was leaning up against a tree taking a nap. If you were to look around her, you would see that besides the tree she was leaning on, the entire region had signs of destruction everywhere.

Amelia herself looked quite rugged as well. Her clothes were close to being rags, she had lots of cuts and bruises, and she looked a bit dirty.

“Wow, she sure went all out.”

At that moment, two persons were walking and looking around at the destroyed area. They were the queen Serket, and her servant(?) Richard.

“I thought I told you to keep an eye on her? What if she had hurt herself from getting carried away?”

Serket spoke to Richard with a strict tone.

“I was keeping an eye on her, it’s just that your other order prevented me from stopping her.”

Richard replied calmly.

“If it looks like she’s about to make an important breakthrough, don’t disturb her no matter what…..That’s what you said.”

“Can’t you make a judgement regarding which one you should’ve prioritized?”

Richard shrugged in response to Serket’s question.

“She isn’t dead, and only sleeping; what’s the problem?”

Serket sighed when she heard that.

“Sometimes I really dislike this persona, you should’ve picked a different one.”

After saying that, she started walking towards Amelia.

Richard just smiled and followed her.

“Hey, Amelia.”

Serket stooped down and started to shake her shoulder.

“Hey, Amelia!”

“Ugh…”

After a couple shakes, Amelia groaned and opened her eyes.

“Serket?”

She slowly got to her feet.

“Wow, you’re quite bold.”

“Hm?”

Amelia was confused about what Serket meant until she looked down.

“?!”

She saw that various parts of her body was visible from her clothes being torn. One thing that was in full view was her breasts. She quickly hid herself behind the tree, and then peeked at Richard’s face.

“What? Are you embarrassed to be seen by him?”

Serket asked with a teasing tone.

“I don’t mind you since we’re both women, but only one man has ever seen me naked before this. While I don’t consider myself to be all that feminine, I still get embarrassed by these things.”

Amelia explained.

“Oh, but you don’t have to worry about him.”

Serket pointed at Richard with her thumb.

“He isn’t interested in women.”

Richard smiled when he heard that.

“Then he’s into men?”

Amelia asked.

“You can say that.”

The two laughed for some reason. It seems that there was some deeper meaning behind their words.

“Anyway, we’ve brought some clothes. You can go bathe by the river and change into them.”

Richard walked up to Serket and handed her some clothes, which she in return gave to Amelia.

“These are….”

Amelia looked at the clothes strangely.

“I’ve noticed that you preferred dressing like a man because male clothes are easier to move in, and more importantly, they’re more comfortable. As such, I’ve tasked some people at the palace to make these. They’re comfortable and won’t disrupt any movements during battle, because of the material used to create them.”

Serket explained.

“Will you take them?”

Amelia nodded almost immediately.

“Thank you for the gift.”

Serket smiled when she heard that.

“Alright, go have a nice bath. After you do, we’ll return to the capital.”

Amelia nodded and then moved at her top speed, in order to not be seen.

Richard laughed when he saw that.

“My lady, is now the right time to bring her back?”

He asked.

“Rory seems to be up to something, and there’s also the fact that the church have been quiet even after being disgraced by him. Don’t you think things will get out of hand from here on out?”

“That’s the exact reason why I’m bringing her back.”

Serket replied.

“Amelia is in the middle of evolving, she needs to be put in tense situations to reach the next level.”

She looked at Richard.

“As you know, Rory was a monstrous talent as a kid; Amelia is the same. Rory grew rapidly through life and death situations, so Amelia should be able to do the same.”

She said.

“But Rory was unique.”

Richard said.

Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author's consent. Report any sightings.

“True, if he hadn’t ran into Zahak when he did, Rory would’ve already reached similar levels as the Sacred and Night Kings. But Amelia might have what it takes to reach that level as well. So we need to take risks with her.”

“So are you implying that she can reach the Human Sovereign?”

Richard asked.

Serket laughed when she heard that.

“Amelia is talented, but that person is a monster one step away from godhood. Even I don’t want to fight them if I have a choice.”

She smiled.

“The Guardian of the Human Race, the strongest human, that person is something else entirely.”

After Amelia finished taking a bath, she changed and returned to where Serket and Richard were.

“Oh, that looks good on you.”

Serket praised the moment she saw Amelia wearing the outfit she picked out for her.

Amelia was wearing dark pants with several buckles on the legs sections, stylish black and white combat boots with heels, a long sleeved top which had white leather make up the torso sections

, while the sleeves remained black. She was also wearing black and white fingerless gloves.

Everything was slim fitted, so her well toned body shape was visible.

“I gotta say that I was skeptic at first, but it does indeed look good.”

Amelia said while admiring her outfit.

“It’s also very durable and made of elastic material, so it will last a long time. However, since you’re a girl and a beautiful one at that, don’t stick to one outfit for too long. I’ll provide you ones similar to this, but if you see something you like you should buy it.”

Serket said.

“Thanks, but why are you so generous?”

Amelia asked. She wasn’t naïve enough to think that there was anything that didn’t come with a cost in this world. Serket must have her reasons as to why she’s doing this.

“That’s because you’re important to my brat.”

She said.

“So it’s James’s idea?”

Amelia asked.

“I wasn’t talking about that one.”

Serket answered.

“Anyway, lets go.”

She and Richard then started walking towards the capital, Amelia quickly followed behind them.

“By the way, Amelia.”

Serket spoke without looking back at her.

“I heard that you don’t know where you’re from.”

“Ah, yes. My oldest memory is appearing at a small country called Buchse.”

Amelia answered.

“Is that really your oldest memory?”

Amelia nodded. She didn’t mention the memory of her at Sol with them, or the fact that she seemed to be royalty.

However, Amelia didn’t noticed how Serket looked at Richard with a knowing gaze.

“I see, I was just curious. Forget I ever asked.”

Serket said.

Amelia nodded in agreement.

Elsewhere, Rory was walking past a tall gate when he suddenly stopped and jumped over it. The moment his feet touched the ground, he dashed forward without a hint of hesitation.

His eyes glowed as he activated Future Sight. He then moved like the wind and attacked people who were about to attempt ambushing him.

In a split second, several people fell to the ground without being able to move anymore. They all only saw a flash before feeling their body being immobilized in an instant.

They even lost the ability to speak.

After 30 seconds, Rory stood in front of a mansion. He quickly looked around and leaped into the air. He jumped several stories and grabbed onto a window frame.

He then pulled himself and broke the window with a punch. He then immediately climbed up the wall like a lizard until he reached the roof.

“What was that?!”

He could hear that people started gathering in the room where he broke the window. He smiled and then closed his eyes. Soon a 3D diagram of the mansion appeared in his mind. He could see where everyone inside was, their strength, and their anima level compared to his.

This was what someone saw when using one of the Four Regal Powers, Sensor to scan your surroundings.

“Heh.”

He smiled and stood up. There he saw someone standing in front of him, that wasn’t there before.

“You’ve improved your stealth techniques.”

He said to the person, Reina.

“That’s because you keep doing this when you come here.”

She said with a sigh.

“Can’t you come through the front door like a normal person? Our stress levels have skyrocketed because of you.”

“I’m training you guys. Most of you need to improve your skills.”

Rory said.

“But you were finally able to predict my moves. You’re improving.”

He smiled.

“But only as a Boomslang user.”

“Well, I am the current leader of the style. What’s wrong with that?”

Reina asked.

“Because it doesn’t fit you. You’ve indeed mastered it, but you’ve been holding yourself back.”

Rory replied.

“You’re more suited for a wild and overbearing fighting style. Only after learning such a style can you reach your full potential. You and Christi knows this, that’s the reason why he gave you permission to fight like a Megal, and not as the leader of the Boomslang.”

“I’m fine the way I am.”

Reina said.

“Anyway, if you’re here to meet the prince he’s in his room.”

She turned her back to Rory and jumped down off the roof. Rory smiled and jumped down as well.

“The boss is a little stubborn, but she has her reasons.”

The moment Rory landed on the ground, someone appeared beside him and spoke. He wasn’t surprised to see someone he knew.

“You’ve finally recovered, Roc.”

It was Roc who entered the tournament as Christi’s representative, but was defeated by Rory In the semi finals.

“I attacked with the intention of killing a legend like you, so I would naturally take some time to recover after being tricked into attacking myself.”

Roc answered.

“Me being alive is a blessing.”

“A blessing huh? So you consider the Third Prince’s animus as a blessing?”

“What do you mean?”

Roc asked.

“Wow, you’re great at hiding your emotions unlike your boss and leader.”

Rory praised.

“I already have a rough idea what kind of animus Christi has, but if you want to try to keep a secret, feel free.”

After saying that, Rory entered the mansion like a normal person.

The moment he entered, he saw someone sitting rather relaxed near the door.

“Yo, Christi. I’ve come to play.”

He said.

“The last time you came to play, you destroyed my mansion. Go away.”

Christi said while shooing him.

“Come on, that was an accident. I made your father give you a new didn’t I?”

Rory said with a bright smile.

“Let’s get along, Christi. I’m not your enemy.”

He said.

“You’re actions sure says otherwise.”

Christi said with a frown. He then sighed.

“However, you have a special connection to my mother so I can’t just chase you away.”

“That’s the spirit.”

Rory said.

“Oh, Reina can you do your maid disguise again?”

He turned at Reina and asked.

“I liked it back at Liam’s. It was really a feast for eyes.”

Reina ignored him and stood near Christi.

“I’m curious, what are you two to each other?”

Rory asked.

“You’re close but clearly don’t have romantic feelings for each other. You also don’t seem like master and servant either.”

He looked them with a playful look.

“Your relationship really intrigues me.”

“Why do our relationship matters to you? It’s none your business.”

Christi said.

“Well, I guess you’re right.”

Rory didn’t push it any further.

“Anyway, I heard that you frequently visited my place while I was gone. Not only mine, but my brothers’ as well.”

Christi leant forward.

“It couldn’t be that you want to befriend us after finding out who our mother was?”

“Befriend you?”

Rory burst out laughing.

“I just wanted to get along with all of you, but not because of Serket.”

He said.

“Serket being your mother is indeed shocking, but it doesn’t really change anything I wanted to do while here.”

He said.

“I come here to check on Reina and the rest of Boomslang. I go to the First Prince’s place to check out how Amelia is doing, that’s it. However, like I said I would like to get along with you three brothers.”

Rory explained.

“…..You do know that the Sacred Church are gearing up to fight you head on, right? Coming here for the sole purpose of getting along, will only put you in danger.”

Christi said.

“The church and I have always had our differences. I kill them, they try to kill me, I kill them again. It’s our little routine.”

Rory replied.

“So you’re saying that you don’t need to cautious around us, because you’re confident that they can’t kill you.”

Reina asked.

Rory nodded.

“Oh, but don’t worry. Just because you’re backed by the church doesn’t mean that you’re my enemies.”

He said.

“Is it because you’re afraid of my mother?”

“Who’s afraid of that fossil?!”

Rory shouted.

“I just don’t want to get on her bad side that’s all.”

“Isn’t that same?”

Reina asked.

“There’s a difference between avoiding something and being afraid of it.”

Rory replied.

“That granny is a troublesome enemy to have. I want to avoid that. Besides, I owe her too much.”

“I heard from Reina that she apparently saved you when you were young and raised you ever since. What I’m curious about is what she saved you from, and where did you originally come from.”

Christi asked.

“I can’t say. If I did, I’ll have to kill you.”

Rory said with a straight face.

“Whether your Serket’s son or not, I can’t let you live if you found the answer to your questions.”

His gaze was sharp.

He then showed a gentle smile.

“So it’s better you don’t ask.”

Christi frowned when he heard that.

“You know, of all of your brothers, you’re the one who’s the most similar to your mother. Especially the way how you don’t hide your emotions.”

Rory said.

“You’re also the most dangerous as well.”

He said.

“But you don’t seem like the type to seek kingship. Is there a reason you want to become king?”

When Rory spoke he glanced over at Reina.

“I once heard you say that you didn’t want to become king in the first place. Is that the truth?”

“………..”

Christi didn’t answer.

“I see.”

He turned his back to them and faced to door, before glancing behind him.

“How about some fresh air to lighten the mood?”

He asked.

“I’m sure a walk with the three of us would do us good.”
