47th Night: The King & His Guard

After deciding what to do after the war, Christi immediately started to fight seriously. His anima erupted and everyone around him felt like they were in a sea of needles, and any move they made would result in them getting pricked.

Needlessly to say, not many of them could continue to move after feeling that. It was apparent to them that death was awaiting them if they made any careless moves.

“Hm?”

Rory sensed the strange sensation and smiled.

“This is a nostalgic feeling. I was like that when I first met Serket.”

He said.

Not too far away he saw a giant scorpion shaped anima wrecking havoc on the battlefield. It swung its claws and swept away dozens of soldiers. These soldiers screamed out in agony as they felt their skin eroding. Those crushed under the scorpion’s legs suffered the same fate.

“What is that?”

Amelia asked when she saw dozens of soldiers eroding before her eyes.

“That’s Serket’s poison. That woman, believe it or not, was raised by scorpion-men. She learnt anima from them and soon became a master of their poison arts. Her wild anima is no way inferior to theirs hence she’s regarded as more of a scorpion than a human.”

Rory explained.

“Looks like she passed down her skills to her youngest son. Or rather, he was just so compatible with it that she had to pass them down.”

“Ahhh?!”

People started running away from Christi after they saw how their comrades met their end. They tried shooting him, but bullets would just dissolve when they came in contact with his anima.

Christi lifted his hand in front of him, and the anima surrounding him suddenly condensed in a ball the size of a baseball.

Rory’s eyes widen when he saw that.

“She thought him that too?”

He grabbed Amelia and threw her into the air faraway from him. Immediately after Christi gripped the ball of anima and threw it.

*Boom!*

The ball hit a soldier in the chest and suddenly expanded while spinning and devoured him. It continued to expand until it covered around 20m. Everyone and everything that was caught in it was devoured without being able to resist.

It then slowly dispersed into mist, revealing an eroded earth and melting buildings and corpse.

“Poison Pitch. Even when extremely weak compared to Serket’s, it’s pretty lethal.”

Rory said.

He watched as the mist released from the attack enter the surrounding people’s body and caused them to start vomiting blood and bleeding from their eyes. They fell to the ground and started to scream in agony.

Amelia who was thrown out of the way was shocked when she saw that. She immediately knew that Rory threw her so that she wouldn’t inhale the mist. She shivered when she looked at Christi.

“That prince is very dangerous.”

Christi deactivated his anima and approached Rory.

“Reina and the others are going to assassinate the significant members of the rebel army?”

Rory asked before Christi could speak.

“Yeah, after that it’ll be easy to clean them up.”

Christi said with a nod.

“Easy huh.”

Rory laughed.

“I think you guys forgot that this so called rebel army is only a bunch fodders in the church’s eyes. They sent them to wear use out so that they can slaughter us with one big sweep.”

Rory said.

“Let Reina and the others assassinate them, however we can’t afford to wait to slaughter the enemy.”

Rory took a something out of his pocket. It was a flare gun. Christi was confused because he didn’t know what it was supposed to do.

Rory lifted it over his head and fired it.

*Bam!*

A red light covered the sky. Everyone was confused when they saw that.

“A signal?”

“What for?”

This included James and Liam. Only a few knew what it meant.

“Looks like its time to make our appearance.”

Sir Allan who was standing outside the palace spoke when he saw the flare. He turned around and spoke to the person behind him.

“Are you ready, Your Majesty?”

He shook his head.

“Are you ready, wolf?”

Xavier stepped out of the palace dressed in black and wearing a wolf mask.

“Yeah, let’s run wild, partner!”

He suddenly dashed forward with heavy steps which caused the earth to tremble. He quickly reached the wall that protected the palace and leaped over it. The moment he leaped over it, he landed on the roof of a nearby building. He then leaped from that building to a next one and continued to do so heading straight into battle.

Beside him, a lightning bolt was moving to keep up with his pace and agility. This bolt was Allan. The two quickly reached the battlefield in the center of the city.

“Hm? What’s that?”

People started to hear a booming sound that seemed to be approaching them, and turned around to look for it.

The moment they did, they saw a person in a wolf mask jumping from building to building, with a lightning bolt at his side.

“Wha?!”

The masked person stepped on the last building separating the battlefield.

*Boom!*

The building suddenly crumbled and the man disappeared.

*Bam!*

Suddenly an explosive sound rung out and countless soldiers were blown away with their bodies ripped into pieces.

Blood and flesh splattered about as everyone had yet to comprehend what happened. They only saw the masked man, Xavier, standing in a small crater surrounded by corpses and destroyed weapons.

They saw a pair of beastly eyes flashed underneath the mask, and all began to step back.

“For the sake of this country, all rebels must die!”

He roared.

This caused many rebel soldiers to start running for their lives. But it was useless.

*Bam!*

A sudden lightning bolt fell from the sky and electrocuted those trying to run away. Some of them even had their armor melted into their skins.

Allan appeared next to the disguised Xavier.

“Sir Allan?!”

“It’s the king’s guard.”

Allan of course drew a lot of attention.

“Allan? Then the one beside him is as I thought, father.”

Liam said while watching Allan frown at all the rebels.

“What do you think you people are doing? Inviting foreigners into our lands and helping them to take the country. Your king is in a dire situation and you all instead chose to rebel against him.”

Allan looked at them coldly.

“In my eyes, you’re all filth. Hence you all must be cleansed.”

He lifted his hand in the air and lightning started dancing in his palm. The lightning then molded in the shape of a lance. Allan held the lance in an attacking position.

“Die!”

With a thunderclap, he moved scorching the ground and instantly pierced through the group of rebel soldiers. He pierced through a building and killed soldiers on the other side.

“Shit! What’s the church doing?!”

“Now that the king’s guard is on the move, we’re all dead!”

The rebel soldiers all started to retreat.

“Not so fast.”

Xavier sprung forward with an explosive step, and instantly shot passed the retreating soldiers. Once he faced them, he lifted a pair of heads that he was holding by their hair.

“None of you will live past today.”

He said.

His current demeanor was the total opposite of his usual one. This was evident from the way he kept silent most of the time while killing his own people.

Those who knew his identity behind the mask also noticed this.

Xavier lifted his fist in the air and immediately slammed it onto the ground. The ground burst apart and spears of anima rushed out of the ground and skewered the soldiers without mercy.

The scene with a man with a wolf mask facing dozens of people lifted up in the air like flags while their blood drained on the ground, created a horrid image to all who witnessed it.

Xavier turned his back to them and stared at the soldiers that were a bit far away from him. He then looked at his city that was burning before his eyes.

“I couldn’t avoid this result…..I’ve failed.”

He said.

“Yes, you have.”

That’s when Rory walked up beside him.

“Your country is on the brink of destruction and your people are rebelling. That by any means qualifies you to be a failure of a king.”

Rory didn’t sugarcoated his words.

“I see, you’re right.”

Xavier said before walking towards his enemies.

“However, Rory. I don’t feel that bad about failing. I never wanted to become king, but it was still forced upon. So me failing is like me saying ‘ I told you so’.”

“What an irresponsible statement.”

Rory said.

“I know, but these are my true thoughts.”

Xavier replied.

“However, I am still this country’s king. Despite how I feel about it, I have to act accordingly.”

He looked back at Rory.

“As king I must eliminate all who threatens my country, even if it’s my own people.”

“Wow, you sounded like a true king just now.”

Rory said.

“You know Rory, my failure isn’t solely my fault. You and the Sacred church are involved as well.”

He gave Rory a sharp gaze.

“Don’t think that I’ll forget that.”

After he said that he moved towards the soldiers.

“Heh. I can see why Serket fell for him, he has balls.”

Rory said with a laugh.

Elsewhere, Allan was executing every rebel soldier he came across when he saw Xavier ran past him and head towards the enemy. Watching his departing figure an old memory flashed in his mind.

“Yo, are you that kid everyone’s making a fuss about? The one who destroyed an entire gang over night.”

He remember when he was a teen living in the slums when he met the then Prince Xavier. Xavier spoke to him casually while walking around in the foul waters that ran through the streets. He didn’t seem to care that his expensive clothes were dirtied as he spoke to the barely conscious Allan.

“What’s this? Looks like you took some pretty heavy hits. You’re covered in bruises.”

He stooped down and lifted the dirty Allan and lifted him over his shoulder.

“I know you probably can’t talk, but I’m carrying you back to my home. Oh, your face looks like you’re asking why.”

Xavier laughed.

“It’s because I’ve heard some interesting stories about you, and I think you can help me kill time with some stories.”

All Allan could think of at time was what this brat was saying and if he was right in the head. He started to think of ways to rob and kill him. He was certain that he could secure some food if he sold what Xavier was wearing, even if they were dirty.

However, Xavier’s next words blew those thoughts out of his head.

“Oh, my name is Xavier Marigold by the way. Nice to meet you.”

“The crazy prince?!”

Allan sighed as he remembered his first encounter with the one who would later cause him great headache in the future.

However, he soon smiled.

“From a street rat to the king’s guard. Even now I can’t tell if it’s a blessing or curse.”

He smiled.

“Either way, I just have chase after that back like I’ve always done!”

He flew up in the air and formed two giant balls of lightning before throwing them at his enemies.

*Boom!*

They exploded and blew everything to smithereens. Satisfied by the results, Allan started to chase after his king.

Elsewhere, the leaders of the rebel force were stationed in separate locations. Even though they’re technically comrades they couldn’t just get along after years of planing and scheming against each other.

“……..”

A man dressed in combat clothes walked out of one of the tents that had the leaders of noble houses. He held a knife in his hand that was dripping with blood. If one was to look inside the tent, they would see that everyone in there had their throats slit without exception.

This soldier walked and greeted the soldiers who were keeping watch.

“Boss, is it done?”

The handsome man nodded.

“Let’s go. I heard that everyone else has already started to kill their targets as well.

Said the man.

“Yes.”

The man and the two guards then started to walk before blending into the crowd of soldiers.

“Ahhhh!”

A scream was heard shortly after. It came from a servant who made the discovery that several noble lords were killed.

By this time the man and the two guards had already left and were in different attires. The man, who was Reina in disguise spoke to her subordinates.

“Good job on earning their trust. Because of you it was easy to kill them.”

She said.

“You must be joking, Boss. You could have killed them regardlessly.”

“That’s right. Those nobles know nothing about war and let their guards down. They weren’t anything special.”

The Boomslang members responded.

“Either way, I need to get back to Christi. You two join the others. Once everyone has completed their jobs, tell them to retreat back to the mountains and protect the citizens.”

Reina said.

“And you, Boss?”

“I’ll stay here and do what I can to keep Christi alive.”

Reina said.

“Roger.”

“Godspeed.”

The men instantly left, leaving Reina alone.

“Now then, from here on out ninjas and assassins are worthless.”

She smiled.

“It’s time for the beasts to play.”

“Hm?”

Amelia suddenly stopped fighting when she heard a roaring sound coming from the direction of the Sacred Church forces.

When she looked she saw something flying towards her. She immediately saw that it was a laser beam.

“Wha?!”

This laser beam ripped through the city walls, scorched the ground and air. Every building that came in contact was vaporized without fail, not to mention people.

“Shit!”

Amelia realized that she was in the path of the laser.

“Calm down, Amelia.”

*Boom!*

She suddenly saw someone come in front of her, and literally kicked the laser beam into the air.

It was Serket, who had Richard beside her.

“Looks like they’ve ran out of patience.”

Richard said to Serket, who nodded in agreement.

“The church is finally making their move.”
