Chapter 8: Quest Complete

Chapter 8: Quest Complete

Viola and Eks stepped up to the bar, smiles on their faces. They were in Outset City’s tavern. The two girls didn’t take seats, choosing to stand at the bar instead. Behind the bar, an elf girl with a pleasant demeanor stood. That elf girl was Elise.

“Hi!” the tan-skinned elf greeted, her blue eyes friendly. She looked to Eks. “The regular?” She was already reaching for a bottle of brandy behind the counter.

“Not this time. Maybe later. Definitely later.” The red-eyed cat girl leaned closer to the elf before whispering, “Actually, save that bottle for me.” Eks then turned to her bunny girl companion. “Do the thing, Vi!”

“Right!” Viola agreed, looking to be on the verge of hyperventilation. It wasn’t that she looked afraid. In fact, she looked to be a tad too happy. The overly eager bunny girl began fishing through her right pocket, pulling out a folded paper after a bit. Triumphantly, she unfolded the paper, holding it in front of her face as she gave it a once over, her beautiful green eyes sparkling. With a confident grin, she slapped the paper, the quest flier, onto the bar, her breaths still rapid.

“Calm down, Vi. You don’t want to pass out before getting the reward,” Eks teased, poking fun at the bunny girl’s overexcited state. The cat girl’s tail swished happily, her cat ears doing the occasional cute little twitch. The quest was an easy one as far as she was concerned, but she was beside herself with glee for Viola. It was the bunny girl’s first quest after all.

“She’s right. I need to calm down. …but I’m just so happy! I mean, I completed my first quest. It’s, like, my first quest. How can I not be happy?” Viola gulped, trying to calm herself. “Think about this. I want to be known as a powerful adventurer. I don’t want to be known as that chick that passes out after finishing quests. Could I actually pass out from getting too worked up over this? Well, I am starting to feel a tad light headed. Alright. Slow breaths. Slow breaths. In and out. In and out.” Her breaths slowed to a more manageable rate.

“Better?” Eks queried.

“Yeah. Thanks. I needed that.”

The orange-haired bunny girl turned her attention to Elise, her bunny ears and tail having an excited twitch to them. She looked at the brown-haired elf expectantly, happiness showing in her emerald eyes.

Elise smiled back before looking down at the quest flier. It did look like one of their fliers. Her lovely blue eyes went to the flier’s bottom right corner. There, a completed seal could be found. The tavern’s quest fliers were enchanted with such seals. When the quest was completed, the seal would appear. As such, assuming it wasn’t some kind of counterfeit, the flier itself was proof of a completed quest.

The elf picked the flier up, holding it up to the light. Her eyes expertly looked over the flier, verifying its integrity. She had been dealing with these things for a while and was pretty good at spotting fakes, not that many people tried passing off fakes as the real deal to her. She put the flier back down, smiling again. Reaching under the bar, she pulled out a small pouch of coins, saying, “Congratulations on a quest well done!” Elise was beaming as she handed over the coin pouch.

“Thanks so much!” Viola responded, her grin somehow seeming to get even bigger. The reward actually wasn’t all that much. After all, the quest was an easy one. The bunny girl was in adventurer heaven though. She had completed her first quest and received her first quest reward. Of course she was ridiculously happy.

“Well, don’t you look happy,” Eks commented with a smirk.

“Yeah. I’m in heaven right now.”

“Want to celebrate a little more privately?”

“What do you have in mind?”

With a mischievous smile, the blue-haired cat girl leaned forward and whispered into Viola’s ear. The bunny girl went beet red at her words. Giggling, Eks continued, “…so you’re interested?”

“Yes! Let’s go!” Viola exclaimed, perhaps a little too enthusiastically. She grabbed the cat girl’s hand and quickly began pulling her to the exit.
