Chapter 29: The Missing City and the Lap Pillow

Viola took a deep breath, half enjoying the night air and half horrified at the sight before her. Outset City was gone. Nothing remained of it. Ri Sal, the slime queen, had completely devoured the city, leaving nothing behind but a massive crater.

Overhead, the stars (obscured only by a few scattered clouds) twinkled in an almost taunting manner. Their dim light shone softly upon the massive hole where once a bustling city stood. What had become of all the people in Outset City? Did anyone else escape that death trap? Apart from her group, the bunny girl didn’t really notice anyone else around the area.

The bunny girl sat on her heels, her shins pressing into the soft grass, her bunny ears twitching dejectedly. The whole city got devoured, and all she could do was run. Some adventurer she turned out to be.

Feeling something press down on her thighs, she turned her green eyes downwards, a pair of pink eyes staring back. Her blood ran cold. The slime queen (the same slime queen that literally ate Outset City) was using her lap as a pillow.

“You look absolutely scrumptious,” Ri said in an almost absentminded manner.

“How can someone be so beautiful and so horrifying at the same time?” Tears began to overflow the bunny girl’s eyes, trickling down her cheeks.

“D-Don’t worry. I’m not going to actually eat you. I’m a woman of my word,” the slime queen tried to reassure. At least she didn’t seem to be outright hostile to Viola anymore. The pink-haired woman turned onto her side so that she faced Viola’s stomach and closed her eyes, getting more comfortable as she fell asleep.

The orange-haired bunny girl let out a breath, trying to relax a bit. Well, she wasn’t crying anymore. That was something. However, it would be nice if she didn’t have a literal monster sleeping on her lap. Sighing, she turned her attention to the others.

A short distance away, Eks also sat on her heels, the cat girl holding a flask of brandy in her right hand. She brought the vessel to her lips and took a swig, clearly already drunk. As for Elron and Elise, they sat even further off, both of them sporting thousand-yard stares. Well, until now, they both had lived their entire lives in Outset City, so the thousand-yard stares were completely understandable.

“So we have me (a bunny girl adventurer), Eks (my cat girl girlfriend, who is a low key god), Ri (a true monster), Elron (a human blacksmith), and Elise (an elf).”

“Viola … You taste so delicious,” Ri murmured in her sleep, interrupting Viola’s thoughts.

“Is she dreaming of me?” The bunny girl turned her emerald eyes to the slumbering slime queen. “Why did she sound kind of lewd when she said that? She’s not having that kind of dream, is she?” The orange-haired woman cocked her head to the side, her bunny ears twitching curiously, her cheeks starting to flush. “Is that drool?!” Her eyes widened in a new kind of horror as the slime woman’s saliva made its way towards her thighs.

“Don’t drool on me!” Viola yelped, but the plea proved too little too late.
