There are no blueprints of the train system that still exists, so I cannot be sure if I am on the right path, I can only rely on my compass, (what, you thought they wouldn’t install one on a top tier weapon? Heretic!) so whenever I end up in an intersection I can only pick whichever way is more towards my target.
...I am not sure how long it has been, but I keep going. Whatever happens, I must keep going…
“Hnng…” I feel Alicia begin to stir, good, she is finally waking up.
Laying her against the tunnel wall I take out my flask and offer it to her.
“..Thank you” she says in her small voice, as she takes a few gulps from the flask, I proceed to explain the situation to her, she looks at me concerned for some reason, but now is not the time for that.
After ensuring she can walk, we kept marching onwards.
...Now that I am thinking about it, she was probably feeling creeped out by my bruises...
It not like I just walked out of that fight all fine and dandy you know? (a few cracked ribs, bruises, oh and one or two bullet holes.)
(What? I told you I am well insulated, a few holes in the flesh aren’t gonna stop me, just gotta make sure I don’t bleed out that‘s all.)
We keep advancing in the dark.
The good thing about being this deep in the train system is that there is no food or prey for the Old beasts, so you won’t find them roaming idly.
The problem comes if there is a group of them passing through. So I still have to be careful.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
“-KYAA!!” A sudden scream echoed through the tunnel. I looked back and saw that Alicia stumbled on something and fell. Taking a closer look, it was a torn off security door.
Looking around, we find the hole it belongs to in one of the alcoves far to the side, sadly it is not an emergency staircase up, (for some reason they made none, perhaps to avoid terrorists getting into the train system?) but it was a safe area out of the open, so we decided to rest our feet for a bit.
Alicia tried to offer me the blanket I gave her earlier, but I refused. It was a present to earn her loyalty points, if I take it back it would have been meaningless you know!
After that, it got rather blurry, I think I fell asleep, despite meaning to just rest for a moment...
When I woke up I found that Alicia had put the blanket on me to keep me warm despite what I told her and had curled up next to me to keep warm.
Sighing I took the blanket and laid it on her small figure, as I carefully got up.
...I suppose loyalty like this is not so bad either.
