Looking at the little cretin in front of me, I considered throwing it out of the cargo hold, It kept glancing back between the cargo crate and me, probably realizing that it is full of others like it.
I was about to get rid of it, but then I realized. This is a chance! Maybe I can finally get a squadmate if I play my cards right!
Thinking so, I grabbed her by her wrist and reached for a medical kit. But she began squirming, so I told her to keep still. I don’t know why but she seemed really surprised by my words. But since trying to figure out why doesnt help anything I decided to ignore it, and bandaged her shoulder.
After doing so and giving her a blanket, I gave her some of my rations, as to show kindness, she instantly began nibbling at it like a little squirrel.
Ah, a heart warming sight...
After she finished eating I put her to an empty compartment behind the cockpit and got on with my duty of traversing the highway.
After many, many more hours, I encountered another group of old beasts. Only lesser ones this time, no Mediums or Heavies, so I took my time, sniping them from afar. (The little one kept surprisingly quiet through the fight, maybe she was asleep?) After recording the encounter into my logs, I continued on my way to the outpost.
After some 3-4 hours we finally arrived to the outpost. and as far as outposts go, this one feels particularly well protected.
A fenced up old Gas station with gatling guns and AA guns installed to defend it. With a moving gate made out of a large truck with armor slapped onto the outside. I swear they took that out of an old world movie.
Outposts like this one are often made along popular routes between Arcologies. They are a bit like old world frontier towns, and tend to make do thanks to merchants passing through on their way between Arcologies.

After they confirmed my identification number, they moved the truck out of the way, allowing me to head inside.
I parked Lily to one of the charging stations linked to a solar farm and helped the little one along with me out to head to the Gas station inn for a meal.
After eyeing through the list for cheap meals available I saw the little one stare enviously at a meal some merchant’s kid was eating, sighing in my head I bought the same meal for her, as I got myself some oatmeal. This is going to sting in my wallet. Thinking so, I ate my meal gloomily before heading to bed.
The next day I purchased a seat for the little one (her name is Alicia apparently)
Hm? ‘Why are you pampering this random KID for no reason? I thought you were practical!’ You ask? Hah simple! I am Implanting into her head the idea of how kind I am and then I shall keep her instead of delivering her, gaining myself an instant squadmate! Eh, what? ‘but won't she be really useless because she has no combat experience?’ Hah, semantics! I learned, so that means she can too! Just give it time and you will see! One day we will be a world famous Weapon set, and you will be left to envy our fame on the sidelines!
“Umm… Rasmus… Why are you looking into the distance with contempt?” Alicia asked.
“Don’t worry about it… The reader knows why… Hehe…”
“Uuuu… Rasmus…You are being scary again…”
*Cough* Moving on.
After installing a proper seat for Alicia, I paid for my lodging, and began making my way onwards. Towards the entrance of the tunnel system.
