Chapter 35 - Notification

The next day, Angelina woke up out of bed and went downstairs, she saw her step-mother cleaning up the trash from last night’s festivities.

“Good morning Maria.”

“Morning sleepy head. How was your rest?”

“I slept like a baby. Thanks.” Angelina started helping Maria tidy up the place. “Where’s Brad? Has he gone back already?”

“Not yet. He’s still sleeping in his room with his friends. I think that their transport will be arriving tomorrow.”

“Friends?” Angelina seemed concerned about something. She spun around her backside and began making her way towards her brother’s room but before she could reach, Maria spoke up.

“If you’re worried about your boyfriend, he already left a good while ago. He told me to tell you that he had a great time last night.”

Hearing her step-mother’s words, Angelina felt annoyed. “For the last time. That idiot isn’t my boyfriend!”

“He’s not?” Maria stared at Angelina sceptically. “Then what is he to you and how did you two meet?”

“It’s complicated okay. But he’s not my boyfriend. He’s not even my type.” Saying this, Angelina opened the front door and took the trash outside. She inhaled the fresh morning air which chilled her agitated mind.

Later that day, Angelina took her brother along with her to have some fun. Because her brother was only back in town for a short period of time, she wanted to spend more time with the little rascal before he returned to Westville for his summer project.

While venturing through an amusement park, little Bradnoyd was enjoying his piggy-back ride on his sister’s shoulders. “A.J, I saw your race the other night, you were so amazing! The way you killed those monsters and destroyed those Tomb Rider was totally awesome!”

“Hey, keep your voice down.” Angelina shushed the excited boy.

“Oh, sorry. I forgot that you don’t want your identity to be revealed. If you don’t mind me asking, why do you keep the secret of you being a Tomb Rider from mom but not me?”

“Because… you’re my favourite brother in the whole wide world.”

“Ha-ha-ha, very funny. I’m your only brother.” Bradnoyd climbed down from Angelina’s back. “But seriously though, why do you hide the truth from mom.”

“I’ll tell you about it some other time.”

“Really? Do you promise?”

“I promise. Here, lets pinkie swear.” Both Angelina and her brother locked their pinkies together to form an unwritten contract. They continued enjoying their day together until they were almost satisfied.

In the afternoon, Angelina returned home with her brother. Maria was preparing dinner when suddenly Angelina’s phone received a notification. She unlocked her phone and commenced reading what it said.

“The date for the upcoming tournament has finally been revealed? It’s a lot earlier than I thought it would be.” She scrolled down and read the rest of its contents.

“For this particular tournament, all Tomb Riders are tasked to form a temporary group of 3 or more. Groups must not exceed the maximum limit of 5 people. All group must be registered before the day of the tournament. Failure to comply with our demands will result in an immediate forfeit. Also, no modified or self-created Soul Insignias will be permitted…..”

A lot of other superficial information was present on her screen but Angelina decided to skim over it.

“……”

Finish reading the notification, she mull over her thoughts. “It turns out that rat-boy was telling the truth after all. Without forming a temporary group, I won’t be able to participate in this upcoming tournament. I should contact that idiot as soon as possible, but how?”

Angelina got up from around the dinner table. “Excuse me. I’m going to go out for a bit.”

“But you just got back and you haven’t eaten anything yet. Aren’t you hungry?” Maria was disappointed by Angelina leaving so sudden but what could she do.

“I’ll eat something when I get back. I won’t be long. See you guys later.” Angelina went through the front door and disappeared out of view, leaving only her step-mom and little brother to dine alone.

Maria sighed again. “That child… where does she go every time she disappears like that.”

“I’m sure she’s only meeting up with her friends. There’s nothing to worry about mom. A.J can take care of herself.” Bradnoyd reassured his mother.

“I sure hope your right.” Her mind lingered on her step-daughter.
