Chapter 1 - The Mysterious Tomb Rider

In the depths of the night, a cacophony of voices was clashing against each other throughout a tumultuous crowd which was behaving like a hoard of wild hogs. People of indiscriminating races were clumped together inside a massive Ghoul Stadium like a colony of ants. The stadium wasn't generic like any other, it had a variety of mystical mechanisms that stretched as far as the eyes could see, forming a rough and smooth race course that had: crumbled pavements, eerie vegetation, tombs, flat graves, tall chambers with bright symbols and numerous dead sprawled all over disorderly with a variety of shapes. This Ghoul Stadium possessed a disturbing environment that was extremely creepy for the eyes to take in. The faint of heart wouldn’t last long here.

Ghoul Stadiums were primarily built for Tomb Riders to express their variety of skills and earn A living while gathering Ghoul Souls and among other things such as crushing their competitors while putting on a fantastic show for their audience.

A lot of widescreen monitors were floating around the arena where the audience was. They were behaving wildly like mad dogs because they saw the Tomb Riders approaching the scene while shooting disturbing visual epithets at each other.

Various persons who were clothed in competitive get-up were making their way out of an underground tunnel. There were over 32 Tomb Riders lining up at the starting point of the course which had a blue and white chequer pattern infixed on the ground. From their standpoint, they were surmounting a sloped area with an expanded route leading downwards.

The 32 Tomb Riders each had a variety of Motors. Motors were the contraption or created machinery that Tomb Riders rode or used to aid their vicious exploration. A lot of different shape and style Motors could be seen on the wide screen monitors.

Among the 32 Tomb Riders, the most prominent Motors were Rollerblades. This was mainly because it gave the user the agility he or she needed to manoeuvre throughout a Ghoul Stadium with fewer constraints and obstacle. Unlike other Motors such as Bulldozers and Motorbikes which offered a more restrictive path, the other Motors had an advantage. Over 16 of the Tomb Riders were equipped with Rollerblades; 5 with Motorbikes; 7 with handle scooters and others with a mixture of Motors such as Skateboards, Bicycle and other unimaginable inventions.

A mature man in his early thirties was hovering over the starting point with the aid of his flying type Motor. He was standing on a purple contraption which had a resemblance to a smartphone. The black haired man was wearing midnight trousers and a dark polyester stripe shirt which settled around his thin waist and accentuated his outlawed belt buckle. This casually dressed person was the arbiter and initiator of the race. He looked down at the 32 Tomb Riders then tapped a Mic icon on his Motor to enhance his sonorous voice.

“Tomb Riders! Are you ready?”

“Vrrm! Vrrm!” They revved their Motors in response to the Initiator's question.

“I assume you’re all already familiar with the rules of our Ghoul Stadium but for those newcomers who are just participating, let me reiterate. The course before all of you is laid out in a non-linear path, they are multiple routes you can take to reach the finish line. Each route has its own level of difficulty and aesthetics. This is a free-for-all race, all individual riders will compete against each other for the winning spots which are: first place, second place and third place.” The Initiator brought up a screen which depicted some zombie-like creatures and a variety of tombs.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

“As you all know, this is not a normal race where Tomb Riders win just by reaching the finish line. Each rider is tasked with the reaping of these Field Monster’s Ghoul Souls. They are several types of Field Monsters situated across this vast course, many of which possess different soul types and abilities. Take a look.” He cycled through his monitor and brought up a bestiary of 3 main different types of Field Monster.

On the left portion of the monitor was a skinny humanoid framework with decaying flesh. Feculent worms poured out of its multiple apertures. This was a Rank-C Field Monster from which Tomb Riders could form a Blue Ghoul Soul. A Blue Ghoul Soul was the lowest in value but there were a lot more of these type of field monster spread across the enormous race course.

In the middle part of the Monitor was a Rank-B Field Monster. This type was a lot bulkier with its skeletal structure wrapped around its exterior like a protective shield. They dropped a Red Ghoul Soul which was a lot higher in value when compared with the standard Blue Ghoul Soul.

The last Field Monster on the monitor which was to the farthest right had a gigantic caricature that could topple a regular size house with its pinkie. Its robust build was not to be trifled with. It had a pair of light wings bursting out of it back. This was undoubtedly a Rank-A Field Monster that produced a Green Ghoul Soul.

Even though these Field Monsters have a distinctive description their characters aren’t fixed, meaning that they came in many different shapes and sizes. Tomb Riders can distinctively identify these type of Field Monster by looking at the crown of their heads where they will see a glowing halo with the colour that represented their Rank. For a Rank-C Field Monster they’ll have a blue halo; Rank-B, a red halo and Rank-A, a green halo.

After giving an in-depth explanation about Field Monsters the Initiator swiped across his screen until the entirety of the crowd started viewing a variety of graves and tombs that had special symbols on them.

“These glowing symbols that you see here are called Soul Insignias. Each of them possesses a special attribute that can aid in your journey to the finish line. They are some special Soul Insignias hidden inside a variety of Tombs. I won’t disclose the properties of these special Soul Insignias but let me just say this, there worth is on par with a Golden Ghoul Soul.”

“???” After the Tomb Riders heard this, their excitement took off at full throttle. The regular Ghoul Souls were nothing when compared to a Golden Ghoul Soul. It had the value of a thousand Green Ghoul Souls which could feed a starving tribe for a year! So naturally, they all wanted to discover it.

The Initiator continued his speech. “As I was saying before, the winners of this race depends on how much Ghoul Soul he or she reaps. It doesn’t matter if you cross the finish line first; if you have zero Ghoul Souls you will be disqualified. Although if you have the highest amount of Ghoul Souls and don’t make it across the finish line before the timer runs out then you will also be eliminated and won’t be able to keep the items that you’ve collected. Therefore, riders take heed of your Ghoul Souls count, the timer as well as your competitor’s stats so that you don’t fall behind and get eliminated. Forcing other riders from continuing the race is also permitted. If you do then their stats will be converted into a Silver Ghoul Souls which you can then collect and add to your own.”

The Initiator cancelled the objects which he was broadcasting on the screens; returning them back to their normal view. The audience was receiving a close up of the 32 Tomb Riders and the Initiator.

“Thank you all for putting up with my prolix explanation. Now without any more delay, let the Tomb Riding begin!”
