Chapter 54: The swarm of Dragons

Chapter 54: The swarm of Dragons

After flying for two hours, the royal capital finally came into view. The eleven of us were taken aback by the scene that entered our eyes. The walls were broken down, buildings were on fire, and the site of people running around could be scene.

In the sky, countless dragons were flying in circles. From time to time, a few of them would swoop down and spat fire to the people. Magicians and Knights would throw themselves to the dragon and would either cast spells or fire arrow at it to slay the dragon. However, the scales that surrounded the dragon proved to be too tough and they were engulfed by the flames that the dragon spat out to them.

“Emilia, have you contacted my servants that stayed here?”

With a serious expression, I asked Emilia who was hovering on my right side.

“Yes, none of them was harmed. According to them, because they had too little magical powers within their bodies, the knights didn’t approve of their participation in the defense. Because of that, most of them have been evacuated outside of the royal capital.”

“Is Fate included with them?”

“No, Fate is in the castle along with her father.”

“I see... Then tell them to gather near our location... Victoria, you’ll have to give them a crash course regarding your discovery.”

““Yes.””

Shin, who was freed along the way, stared at the dragons that were flying in the sky on top of the capital. Eclara and Michelle were by his side. The two of them clenched their respective wands as they prepared themselves mentally.

“Shin... I’ll have you charge in into the mass of dragons. I want you to buy as much time for us to commence our attack. I believe that you’re the only one who can stand up to them head on.”

Shin took a deep breath before he turned to me. He had a really serious expression on his face.

“... I’ll do what you say... However... I have a condition.”

“Condition?”

I tilted my head to the side and echoed what he said.

“Yeah, a condition.”

“As long as it’s within my power, I’ll do everything to fulfill that condition.”

“You said it! No, take backs!”

The moment he said that Shin was surrounded by fierce winds and flew straight towards the dragons. Explosions then occurred within the swarm of dragons. A few moments later, one dragon... two dragons... three dragons then fell down from the swarm one by one.

“Then I shall take my leave and catch up to him, Lumina-sama.”

“I’m gonna head on over there too...”

Eclara bowed before me and then summoned two dragons before flying into the swarm. Michelle rode one of the dragons and tagged along with her.

“Lumina-sama, how about us? What are we gonna do?”

Liza then flew beside me and asked me with a very enthusiastic face.

“Since they’re using some high-level spells over there, we can’t join in the melee. So we’ll stay here and provide support.”

“Yes!”

Liza and the others materialized bows and notched their arrows. As for Emilia, she continued to communicate with my scattered servants with the aid of Mary, who also started organizing the documents that were passed on to her.

I then materialized two diamond shaped funnels beside me. One funnel had the fire element while the other one had the water element.

[Oh god of Fire, I implore you to grant me your the strength to turn my enemies to ash! ]

The fire element funnel caught fire while the water element funnel split into three and became frozen spikes.

These were the chants that I read from one of the books in mother’s library. They were the chants for intermediate level magic and were said to pack quite a punch. Incidentally, the chanting I made doesn’t really do anything to the magic. Like always, I only stopped the movement of molecules on one side and transferred its energies on the other one.

The real reason why I chanted was only to look cool.

By the way, I used wind magic to make my hair float and made a magic circle under my feet to create a majestic appearance.

I then raised my right hand up and the moment Liza and the others finished their preparations, I swung it down with great force.

Our magic respectively flew in the sky and headed towards the dragons. My Ice Lances and Blaze Javelin scored a hit on one of the dragons. However, the dragon wasn’t injured by my magic and ignored it.

“...”

Before the dragon rejoined the swarm, I saw it gave out a snort.

You stupid dragon!

I became annoyed by it and decided to use the magic that Victoria had taught me when she arrived into my home.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

I created a small fireball and water ball on my hand. I then closed my eyes and started meditating. The fireball and water ball entered into my body and a chant for a magic appeared in my head.

[Pierce him! Kill him! Murder him! I desire to extinguish his life and preserve the moment of his death in Ice for all eternity! ]

My surrounding became cold and a large block of Ice started forming near my right hand. It started then molded itself into a javelin.

I then materialized a new funnel and had it split into 8 parts. Four of it formed a square while the remaining formed a diamiond. With anger, I threw the javelin through the funnel. The moment it passed through the walls that the funnel had created, the javelin shattered into millions of pieces and flew in the sky.

I then moved my arms to control the innumerable amount of shards and had it track down the dragon that made fun of me. With confidence, the dragon used its wings to swat away the shards.

Seeing it, I made an evil grin and clenched my palms into a fist the moment it came into contact with the dragon.

Starting from the wings, the shards latched on to the dragon and slowly covered its body. I made a screen near my eyes and used it to control the ice that was slowly encasing the dragon.

The dragon struggled and breathe fire on the ice melting some parts of it. However, because the ice was spreading in other places, his action proved to be futile and surely, the dragon fell from the sky.

“Phew... That takes care of one dragon.”

Seeing that I managed to defeat one of them, I breathed out a sigh of relief and turned my sights into the others.

It seemed like Liza also decided to use the method that Victoria had taught us and created a small fireball in front of her. She closed her eyes for a few seconds and slowly guided the fireball into her ample chest.

[Dirty beings that defile my view, I’ll burn all of you away till nothing remains! ]

Her two hands emitted blue flames. She then made a throwing motion with her hands and the blue flames flew towards the swarm. After a few seconds, a dragon was covered in blue flames and fell down from the swarm.

Like me, she made a satisfied smile as she confirmed her kill.

I then shifted my gaze towards Victoria only to see her teaching Achil and the other about the new method she discovered.

“Lumina-sama after 10 minutes almost half of your servants will arrive. It seems like they’ll bring along some volunteers with them.”

“I see...”

I nodded to Emilia as she ended her brief report and resumed communicating.

“Lumina-sama! A message from Gen. Mayers just arrived. He says that in about three hours, the magic cavalry will arrive near our location. As for the regular soldiers, he says he’ll need six more hours before they arrive.”

“Tell Gen. Mayers to secure supplies along the way.”

“Yes!”

I then chanted another spell and defeated one dragon.

Chanting using this method uses 5 seconds. Killing a dragon using that magic requires 15 seconds at least and a minute at most. During that time, Shin and Eclara are able to kill 6 dragons each.

Honestly... Just how strong are they?

After 30 minutes, 30 of my servants had arrived and floated near me. Victoria then quickly gave each of them a crash course regarding the method she had discovered. Unfortunately, more than half of them were unable to do it on the spot and decided to spam null element magic beside the ones from the new method.

Shin and the others became tired and flew away from the swarm, but he was chased by seven dragons. Since he was a vital piece for the defense, I ordered my servants to provide him with cover fire.

He successfully managed to retreat back to our position along with Eclara and Michelle. The three of them looked really pale and were breathing really hard. I could tell that they had used up a lot of mana during that melee from the condition they were in.

I then returned my gaze back to the swarm of dragons and even though we managed to slay a lot of them, there were still thousands more flying above the capital.

“So it’ll be a battle of attrition huh...”

“Yes, it's highly probable that... It’ll be a really long battle.... Ah, Lumina-sama, it seems like some of your servants wanted to help evacuate the evacuees instead of heading towards this place. What should I say to them?”

“Tell them to be careful.”

“Yes.”
